  • What Will The Next Gen Bring to The Tables?

    Next Gen Console Predictions

There's been a lot of talk about the two next generation consoles, the PS4 and the Xbox "Durango," but so far there hasn't really been any roundup or analyzing of what the new consoles will bring, and how games will be responded to by the gaming communities.

Below is a list of what I believe to follow in the next two to three years, however these are just speculations, so it could be right, but it could be wrong.

The PS4 Brings in More Hardcore Gamers

We all already know the PS4 will be packing more raw power than the next Xbox, and because of this the Xbox may have trouble competing with the PlayStation 4, especially in 6-10 years' time. Developers may favor the PS4 over the Xbox because of the extra hardware capabilities, allowing them more freedom for their games. Because of this, Microsoft may focus the new Xbox towards a more casual market, which will eat into the sales of the spectacularly unsuccessful Wii U. Along with the Kinect 2.0, the Xbox has the ability to appeal to the casual gamers with ease.

Battlefield will take the FPS Crown

Everyone loves a good first-person shooter game, but if you've been in the loop recently, you may be starting to get the jist that a lot of gamers are getting a little tired of the constant slew of FPS games with little change. It's true that gamers are usually happy with playing with the same concepts for a long time, but unless the COD and Halo developers come up with good ways to make better use of the next gen hardware, they will fall behind. The Battlefield engine is perfect for the next generation. Destructible scenery and up to 64 player multiplayer should be a huge appeal to players when other levels on Battlefield's competition keep to rigid and static structures.

Ouya and Steambox won't be considered competition

The only reason you'd buy either of the above would be if you're an Android fan or a Valve fan, or you have enough money to "try it out." Both consoles will have the ability to change and renew hardware just like you can with a PC, but with the Android ecosystem not having enough games to appeal to mainstream gamers, and the Steambox to be an undefined, unknown brand to most everyday gamers, they'll both most likely be considered separate from the main console war, even if they did gain a considerable amount of success. In three to four years, when new hardware comes out at a decent price, both consoles may have a chance to kick ass though, thanks to the handy removable hardware.

Both Consoles will Make Good Use of Mobile devices

Smartphones are a huge part of everyday life, and because of this, businesses in the media are seeing the potential and are creating apps to allow users to access more of what they love via their smartphone. Social TV apps are available to give smartphone users more information on their TV shows, and Xbox has already created an app that lets users remotely control their console via a smart device. The next gen consoles will definitely make use of this capability, and it'll be much more convenient than the current offering. Gamers will want to use their smartphones for the functionality instead of silly reasons like trying to impress their friends.

A lot more will come from the next-gen consoles, and at such an early stage it's hard to predict much else, however you can still stitch together a few possible outcomes from rumors, developer talks and other information spread through media channels.

What do you think will happen in the first few years of the next-gen console's lifespan? What do you think about out newest modded controllers?

  • Microsoft Employee References the New Xbox for the First Time

    New Xbox Rumor

Well it's about time isn't it? For Microsoft to reveal SOMETHING about the next gen Xbox right?

It seems that one of their employees thought we deserved to know more and thanks to him we get to hear the very first actual reference towards the new Xbox. In an interview with The Verge, Brian Hall (General Manager of Windows Live) literally mentioned that the "new Xbox" when listing the wide range of Microsoft products that could be incorporated with Windows 8.

This is what Hall said during his interview, "We've had Hotmail and operated Hotmail for about 16 years. We obviously have Exchange, and Outlook, that people use at work. We just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we could have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office, with the new Windows Phone and the new Xbox."

And thus we have our very first reference of the next-gen Xbox. Even though this reveal is not surprising to anyone, it is still nice to hear it straight (sort of) from Microsoft. If you are new to the whole scene and wondering "why is this news not surprising?" then let me sum it up for you.

Firstly, we all know that next-gen Xbox is already in development thanks to the leaked photos of its development kit. The photos also confirmed that the code name set for the new console is "Durango" as was suggested by early rumors. If you haven't read that article please be sure to check our previous post regarding the development kit leak.

Secondly, for months now several studios have been posting job listings that indicate that they are well on their way in developing games for the next-gen. To add to all this we have already seen enough evidence that shows the next-gen Kinect (Kinect 2.0) is also development (also described in previous articles). Numerous developers have also come forward to say that the current gen is coming to end very soon and that we will be witnessing the next-gen in 2013.

But Microsoft won't be Microsoft if they did not try to somehow divert this info or cover it up. When contacted regarding Hall's comments, Microsoft gave the following statement to IGN, "The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context. When Brian mentioned a 'new wave of products,' he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass."

I call cover-up! Hall said it pretty clear "new Xbox" and not Xbox 360. No matter how many updates you throw at the Xbox 360 it is never going to be referred to as the "new Xbox", especially not by a Microsoft employee.  Also the fact that Microsoft responded so quickly with a lengthy reply is also suspicious. I would more or less expect "We have no further comments on this".

But whatever it maybe, a misunderstanding or an actual slip up, be sure to keep a check on our website as we bring you all the latest news revolving around the next-gen Xbox aka "Durango".

A new console isn't on the horizon for another year. Until then be sure to order a modded controller to get the most out of your Xbox 360 today!

  • Dishonored: Bethesda Softwork's New Game

    Dishonored Info

From Bethesda Softworks comes Dishonoured, a game involving a Steampunk world and an assassin with supernatural powers. The game had been revealed for some time now but only recently did the developers actually show some gameplay footage. Currently the game is set to be released on the 9th of October 2012. Check out the super cool trailer from the following like before we head into the details:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1HlYTukh9A

As you can see, this game is a like the love child of Bioshock and Assassin's Creed! The story takes place in the Steampunk city of Dunwal which is being decimated by plague and corruption. The protagonist Corvo was once a Royal Protector of the city and a legendary swordsman in charge of protecting the Empress.

Unfortunately, the Empress was assassinated and Corvo was framed for the murder. As you can see from the trailer, during his imprisonment Corvo is approached by a mysterious figure who gives him supernatural powers. From that point on, it is Corvo's mission to slay all who betrayed him; this story is all about revenge.

The game is basically split into different missions. During each mission you will have one or more high profile targets that you have to assassinate. In between missions you can choose to back to your base where you will be able to level up your weapons, abilities, etc. Although mission based, each of these missions are located in unique situations and have a very traditional sandbox feel to them.

There are multiple ways that you can go about your mission, either using stealth or brute force. Primarily the game is supposed to make players rely more on stealth like peeking through keyholes and eavesdropping on conversations to get vital hints. There is no right way of playing the game and essentially different players will get the job done in any number of different ways. Even the developers were surprised by how the testers utilized different powers, gadgets and weapons to achieve things even the developers did not conceive before!

The use of the weapons and gadgets along with supernatural powers is what makes me see this game as very similar to Bioschock, which is a good thing. And there are a ton of different powers such as: ability to slow time, Blink (teleport across a short distance), summon animals, possess animals and other character within the game; the list goes on. The wide variety of abilities is basically what gives the players the power to do as they please and see fit.

This game with its unlimited possibilities is really showing great promise and we will be sure to keep you as more info arrives. Till then, check the first ever official game demo of Dishonored in order to get a better idea for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vNUpdrJy9Y&feature=g-all-u

  • Ken Levine Wants to Show You Bioshock on the Vita Rather Than Just Talk About It

Ken Levine Prefers to Show a Game Rather Than Talk about It.

According to sources from Joystiq, Bioshock Creator Ken Levine was at the Game Developers Conference and was asked about Bioshock on the Playstation Vita. He stated that it wouldn't be Bioshock Infinite being ported to the Vita and that he and his team was working on it.

He continued on that a lot of people are behind the development of the game and that he would be happy to talk about it, but he would rather wait until the game is ready to show. He said this in response to the millions of tweets and messages he has been getting from many sources hounding him and his team for information of Bioshock on the Vita. He went on to comment that it is kind of silly that so much energy is going into a game that is still in its early stages of development.

I think this is a better approach. People and gamers these days are more dependent on visual depictions than just spoke ones. If Ken Levine says he wants to impress us with what he and his team has done rather than talk about it, so be it. It just sweetens the anticipation for Bioshock on the Vita.
