Press Release

  • White PS4 Standalone May Be Available This Month

white ps4 standaloneTo celebrate the release of Destiny, most of Europe and the UK received a brand new PS4 bundle that included a copy of Destiny and a white PlayStation 4, along with a DualShock 4 controller.

Now that the release of Destiny has long since gone, the white PS4 bundles have slowly died out, but Sony have seen demand for the product and have decided to make plans to release the white variant of the console as a standalone device.

Shuhei Yoshida has revealed that the white PlayStation 4 will be released as a standalone product very soon, but unfortunately the console will be limited to Europe for now. As with the Destiny bundle, Yoshida failed to mention anything about a North American release for the white version.

The white standalone PlayStation 4 will cost £350, which is slightly more than the current £329 street price of the PS4. Of course, if you're in the US and you really want a white PS4, you might have to pay considerably more to get it shipped over here.

Besides from the color change, there are absolutely no differences between the white PS4 console and the black PS4 console, and hardware-wise everything is the same.

Whether or not you like the white console will probably come down to preference, but it's a shame that only those in Europe or the UK will be given the option to choose between a white or a black PlayStation 4.

  • Custom Backgrounds and Screenshots Confirmed for Xbox One

xbox one custom themesNew details have emerged about a planned update that will add a bit more customization to the Xbox One dashboard.

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has recently confirmed that the Xbox One will soon be getting new options for custom backgrounds, along with talking about other plans for the platform, in a new TiC podcast.

During the podcast, Phil Spencer mentioned that backgrounds, screenshots and themes will be coming to the Xbox One soon, however Spencer failed to mentioned exactly when this would be.

When asked about the Xbox One UI and the likelihood of seeing background and profile pic customization options, Phil Spencer replied with, "You will see it, I'll announce it here - I was told themes and background pics are something we're working on, and screenshots -- people beat me up about screenshots - I know people like to customize the look of their dashboard, we're going to deliver them, I can't give you a when yet."

By the sounds of it, a lot more UI customization options are in the works, but it may be a while before we see them pushed out to the Xbox One dashboard. It's no doubt that these new features do not have as much of a priority as other UI and software content for the Xbox One, but it's nice to hear that they are coming eventually.

We'll let you know as soon as we hear more details about the new Xbox One UI customization options - for now, you'll have to make do with what's already available.

  • The Last of Us Movie Will be "Quite Different" To the Video Game

last of us movieIf you hadn't heard already, Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann is currently working on a movie adaptation of The Last of Us, and he recently revealed more information on the content that the movie would portray of the Sony exclusive title.

Whilst the Last of Us movie will still be based on the same story the video game was created for, changes will be made to the movie to help it fit on the big screen. Neil Druckmann revealed that In two hours you can't tell the same kind of story that you can in a game like The Last of Us, which is 15 hours," which suggests that the upcoming The Last of Us movie will be stripped down to ensure the experience captures the whole story basis within the limited time available.

Adapting a book to a movie can often be a difficult task, but adapting a video game into a movie is an entirely different world. Neil Druckmann mentioned the difficult task ahead of him in an interview with MCV. "I'm in the middle of [writing] it now, and it's been super difficult because there's so much that happens in The Last of Us, even just in the cinematics, that can't fit in a film, let alone all the gameplay in-between and dialogue."

"It's been really difficult to cut certain things out, but what I'm starting to get this is really focused narrative that's about these two characters. Some parts will be similar to the game and some parts will be quite different, but it's kind of interesting in helping me understand this other medium and its strengths compared to video games."

Hopefully the The Last of US movie will capture the same strong storyline the video game captured.

  • Telltale Games' The Walking Dead Season 3 In The Works

walking dead season 3Telltale Games have managed to be incredibly successful with their story-driven The Walking Dead game series, and it looks like it's been so successful that the development team are already working on a third season for the project.

Revealed this week via the developer's official Twitter page, Telltale Games announced that there was going to be a third season to their The Walking Dead video game series, and a few details about their development were shared at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Unfortunately, the developers really didn't go into much detail other than confirming that they are planning to work on a third season for the Walking Dead, however the release date, and the date they start actively developing the game aren't known.

Telltale Games are currently already piled in with work from The Wolf Among Us, The fifth episode of The Walking Dead in Season 2, and Tales of The Borderlands, so it may be a while before we finally see progress on the third The Walking Dead Telltale Games season.

Interestingly, Telltale Games are also working on an adventure story game based on HBO's Game of Thrones, and after the undoubted success of that, it's very likely they'll have many other movie, TV and game creators asking to partner up with them on future projects.

What Telltale Games do is quite unique, and I'm pretty excited to see various other projects being worked on from the same development team, such as Tales from the Borderlands, so we'll definitely have enough content to enjoy whilst waiting for The Walking Dead season 3.

  • Next Mass Effect Game 'Years Away'

next mass effect gameWhilst members from BioWare have mentioned quite a lot about the future of the Mass Effect series since the last game was released, it's unlikely that we'll see the next Mass Effect game any time soon.

In fact, according to the game producer for the Mass Effect franchise, Mike Gamble, the next Mass Effect game is 'years away' from completion, which means that we probably won't be seeing anything solid about Mass Effect 4 for quite a while, and it's final release may be stretched out to 2017, or perhaps even further.

Mike Gamble revealed this information at a session at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, along with some other details on the next Mass Effect Game.

Firstly, according to Gamble, it's likely that the Mako, a rough-terrain vehicle seen in the first two games, will most likely make a return to the fourth title in the Mass Effect series, and players may also get to see some familiar faces from previous games.

It is important to note that the new Mass Effect game will not focus on Commander Shepard or any of the other character's within Shepard's crew, however previous characters from the franchise may appear as cameos.

In the past, BioWare talked about potential plans to turn the fourth Mass Effect game into something completely different to the first three, however at this point I'm really not sure what that could be, although we do know there will be a large focus on exploration in the next Mass Effect game.

  • Maya Coming to Killer Instinct Season 2

killer instinct mayaThe latest Killer Instinct title for Xbox One has taken quite an odd approach to free-to-play, and in my opinion it has worked quite well. By featuring a rotation system similar to that found in popular MOBA League of Legends, players can get a taste of all the characters in Killer Instinct, and splash out on the game if they feel a certain attachment to a character they have had the chance to play.

To keep things interesting though, Iron Galaxy Studios have planned to throw in more characters into the roster, and once season 2 kicks off, Killer Instinct will see it's first set of new characters.

Probably the most interesting addition to season 2 will be Maya, a character that has only been seen in one other game in the franchise, Killer Instinct 2, back in 1996. Maya is an Amazonian warrior who banished the evil dark lord Gargos to become the queen of Amazonia.

The second character announced for season 2 was thought by many to be Cinder, a fire based fighter, but this latest announcement confirms that Maya will be introduced to the game instead.

Earlier in the year, TJ Combo, a very popular ex-boxer character from the Killer Instinct franchise was also confirmed to be making it into the roster once season 2 starts.

Both characters will be purchasable as DLC content, however their release date, along with season 2, has currently not been revealed. However, we expect Killer Instinct season 2 to be released fairly soon.

  • Advanced Warfare Will Shake up The COD Multiplayer Experience

advanced warfare multiplayerHow many times have we heard gamers complain about how the Call of Duty multiplayer experience is the same every single year? If you've played a Call of Duty game, you'll know what I'm talking about. But Sledgehammer games have been working on the next COD title for three years, and according to them, things in the Advanced Warfare multiplayer scene are about to be shaken up.

Advanced Warfare offers a whole new perspective for first person shooters - there are no boundaries for guns, equipment and perks anymore because the game has been set in the future. This gives Sledgehammer the ability to really play with their imagination, and I hope they manage to do it justice. Glen Schofield, co-founder of Sledgehammer seems pretty confident about the new Advanced Warfare multiplayer, "We'll have our own style. The exoskeletons are definitely in there and that's the core of the game."

Michael Condrey, another co-founder at Sledgehammer added to this conversation, too. "Our multiplayer has what I'm going to call the biggest set of new, cool gear that you've seen in a long time. It's a big step forward, from three years in development we've been able to innovate across the game. Just imagine what that's going to mean for multiplayer. You're going to find that new is what it's all about."

Despite people complaining about the lack of originality in the COD multiplayer offering, I think many players have come to love the comfortable experience the game introduces to players, and these apparent changes by Sledgehammer could make or break the series for good. Personally, I'm quite excited for the next Call of Duty game, and I haven't said that in a while.

Get ready for the new Call of Duty by picking up a brand new Xbox One controller customized to your preferences!

  • Ubisoft Plans to Reimagine Assassins’ Creed Franchise with Brand New AC: Unity

assassins creed unity e3You may be getting a bit fed up with the constant release of new Assassins' Creed games, but despite there being so many, there's doubt that Ubisoft are working hard to keep things fresh and enjoyable. The last game in the series, Assassin's' Creed IV: Black Flag, was a great new experience for the franchise, and Ubisoft want to make sure things are still as fresh as ever with their latest game, AC: Unity.

In Assassins' Creed Unity, there will be a larger focus on team play and co-operative work. There will be a set of online-only missions that will allow players to test their single player character in an environment with other players, but this will be a separate experience from the single player game.

Thanks to next gen hardware, there will also be a big improvement on overall game mechanics, and things from climbing and navigating the world to combat gameplay will have refined systems to make them feel more intuitive and seamless.

Gameplay will also feel more open; if you fail a mission, instead of reverting back to a checkpoint, new objectives will open up to amend your mistakes and finish the original mission like planned.

Assassin's Creed Unity will be released this October 28th. The game will be released for just PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, making it the first Assassins' Creed title to be exclusive for current gen consoles, leaving the last gen in the dark.
