DOOM

  • New Doom Free Update Launched

    doom-free-update

A brand new free update for Doom has landed and it features a number of interesting new features.

Firstly, the campaign mode for Doom now has a new scoring mode. The new scoring mode is called Arcade and it will give players score for completing levels as quickly and with as little failures as possible. In arcade mode, all items will be unlocked, so players will be able to make a choice about what to equip themselves with for the best possible outcome.

The new update also adds new features to the SnapMap level editor. Players will now be able to use assets from the classic Doom games. Not only has ID Software opened the doors for potential Doom classic remakes, but they've released a number of classic style maps that were made from SnapMap for players to try.

Multiplayer has been given some love too - A new game mode has been added called Possession. It's your typical infected game type where a group of marines have to fight against player-controlled Prowlers. If a marine gets killed, they'll respawn as a Prowler. The game continues until all players are converted or the time limit runs out.

A new FFA mode has been added to multiplayer too. The new game mode is called Bloodrush - in this, players have a constantly draining meter. If they kill an enemy or get an assist, the meter will temporarily be boosted. If you die, your bar will drain quicker and the in-play bar drain will speed up as the game continues. Once the bar is drained completely, that player is out of the game. The last player standing wins.

  • First Doom DLC is Released

    doom dlc is released

Doom has finally received its first DLC release. The new DLC pack is available for $15 and includes a number of new features such as new maps. The DLC is also available as part of the $40 season pass.

The release did come as bit of a surprise. We’re excited to see that ID Software are still working on releasing new content for Doom, both in terms of free content patches and paid DLC.

The newly released DLC pack includes the following:

  • New map: Cataclysm
  • New map: Offering
  • New map: Ritual
  • New weapon: UAC EMG pistol
  • New item: Kinetic Mine
  • New demon:the Harvester
  • New armor and taunts, including robotic sets and a golf club-swinging taunt
  • In most cases the new maps are locked out to those who hold the DLC pack. However, if you party up with a player that owns the DLC pack you’ll be able to play the new maps even if you do not own the DLC yourself. This gives friends an option to party up and try out the new maps without everyone being forced to pay for them.

ID Software has a number of other plans for future DLC packs and they also plan to keep updating the game with regular free updates and content drops as well. In other news, Doom went on sale to celebrate Quakecon. The developers also recently added two new multiplayer game modes for all players for free.

With the new DLC will you be picking up the new Doom again?

  • Pre-order the New Doom And Get Old Doom Games for Free

    new doom pre-order

If you are planning to pre-order the new Doom you may be happy to hear that you'll be receiving some additional benefits for doing so. Previously there has been no news about pre-orders for Doom and pre-ordering the game via the Xbox Game Store has not been possible so far. However, the Xbox Games Store in Australia had a little slip up and showcased the pre-order page for Doom shortly before being taken down again.

According to the Australian pre-order page for the new Doom, players will be able to receive versions of Doom 1 and Doom 2 for pre-ordering the upcoming title. It's likely that the Doom 1 and Doom 2 games that will be packed in as part of a pre-order bonus will be the same XBLA versions that are already available on the Xbox 360. Both versions are currently on sale for $5 each and backwards compatibility is already supported for both Doom 1 and Doom 2.

Giving away both arcade versions of Doom 1 and Doom 2 is a generous move by Bethesda and it's very simple for them to do. In fact, this is not the first time Bethesda has offered such a deal for pre-ordering a title. Players were previously rewarded a free digital copy of Fallout 3 for pre-ordering Fallout 4.

Other publishers have offered similar deals before as well - For example, Square Enix recently gave out free copies of Just Cause 2 to all players that pre-ordered Just Cause 3.

  • Fallout 4 Gun Mechanics May Feel Like Destiny

    fallout 4 gun mechanics

The gun mechanics in Fallout 3 were a bit lacking compared to other first person shooter titles and whilst Fallout is an RPG title, it would still be nice to see an improvement in the gunplay. Fortunately Fallout 4 will be getting revamped gun mechanics and there will be plenty of changes to make the gunplay in Fallout 4 feel more like a traditional shooter.

It's great to see some positive changes being made to Fallout's combat system, but what were the changes inspired from, and what other game would be best compared to Fallout 4 when it comes to gun mechanics?

Surprisingly, Bethesda Studios hired a Bungie employee to help create a gun system that has been heavily influenced by Destiny. The gunplay in Destiny is undoubtedly very smooth - even if you dislike the game, there is no denying that the gun mechanics are very decent.

It's hard to say how much inspiration Fallout 4 will take from Destiny, but we do know that Bethesda also asked for help from Doom developer ID Software, so Fallout 4's gunplay is definitely going to be an improvement from Fallout: New Vegas, but we don't think it will feel too similar to Destiny.

With that being said, Fallout's new gun mechanics may have a certain Destiny feel to them when it comes to taking down enemies or easily being able to differentiate between a headshot and a body shot. Hopefully we will get to see exactly how good the Fallout 4 gunplay is once the game has been released on November 10.

  • What is Happening at Bethesda's E3 Conference?

bethesdas e3 conferenceRecently, Bethesda has revealed plans to hold a press conference at E3 in June, and by the sounds of it, it's going to be pretty big. But what could Bethesda be planning at their upcoming conference?

The first conclusion that many people will jump to is the announcement of Fallout 4. Yes, this could be a possibility, and considering all of the hype surrounding the rumored game so far, it would make sense.

The strange thing is that no matter how large a game Bethesda has announced, we've never seen a press conference as large as Bethesda is making their upcoming E3 conference to be.

Whilst it is planned for E3, the actual conference will be happening a few days before all of the chaos of the gaming show. The event will take place on a Sunday, on June 14th.

Before we straight up say it's most likely to be a Fallout 4 announcement, let's take a look at a few other things Bethesda could potentially show off. Firstly, the Doom reboot we've all been expecting for a long time still hasn't showed it's face - that's one possibility.

If it's not Doom, Bethesda could release their upcoming free to play shooter BattleCry, but we doubt that game would receive a large press conference like the one planned for E3. A new venture into the Elder Scrolls universe could be a possibility too, but it would be odd for Bethesda to release a new Elder Scrolls game before Fallout 4. We'll let you know more as soon as we know more.

  • Fallout 4 May Be Shown at VGX 2014

fallout 4 vgxAh, the elusive Fallout 4. We keep hearing whispers and rumors about the game, but we never actually see anything official. If we are lucky, that may all be changing soon however, as it has been revealed by an insider that Fallout 4 may in fact be shown off for the first time at VGX 2014.

That insider is Geoff Keighley, host of VGX. According to Keighley, some kind of new announcement is planned for VGX by Bethesda, and a cryptic tweet almost suggests that it will be Fallout 4.

Of course, nothing is confirmed at this point - the reveal at VGX 2014 could be anything - Bethesda may decide to give another look into their new DOOM game, or they may have something completely else planned.

However, if Bethesda were to announce Fallout 4, VGX would be a good place to do it. In the past, Bethesda have used VGX (or Spike TV) to make new game announcements, and in fact, The Elder Scrolls Skyrim was announced at VGX for the very first time at VGX 2010. The game then released a year later.

If we do see Fallout 4 we will let you know - VGX 2014 will be happening on December 5th this year, so whatever Bethesda has planned, there’s just enough time to start getting excited about it.

We would absolutely love to see a new Fallout game, but nothing is confirmed yet, so take this post with a healthily large grain of salt.

  • Doom 4 Showcased at QuakeCon

doom 4 quakeconAt QuakeCon this month Bethesda and Id Software finally got round to showcasing the brand new Doom game. The fourth title in the franchise, simply named DOOM, will be released for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and the PC, and is planned to run at 60FPS at a 1080P resolution.

Around 10 minutes of gameplay footage of DOOM was shown off at QuakeCon, and within that time there was a lot to take in. It looks as if DOOM will be a very fast paced experience, offering players a great level of agility whilst holding and using weapons.

In fact, DOOM isn't just fast paced like many run n' gun first person shooters currently available; Id software seem to have taken it to the next level. Marty Stratton, the executive producer at Id Software, stated that, "Doom is an origin game, about fast, fast paced combat. It's about amazing guns and blood and gore and gibs. It's the Doom game that we want to make and what you want to play."

DOOM is shaping up to what sounds to be an incredibly adrenaline-pumped experience, and we'll probably see more and more of that leading up to the game's release date.

Talking about release, it's likely DOOM will be released at some point in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and PC, although unfortunately release details haven't gotten any more specific than that. We'll keep you updated as more information about the upcoming Doom game is revealed.

Gear up for DOOM with a custom new controller with Evil ID or a custom paint job.

  • New DOOM Game Beta Will be Current Gen Only

doom betaIt's been known for a while now that the upcoming Wolfenstein title, The New Order, will come packed with beta access for a brand new DOOM game that is currently in the works and being published by Bethesda.

However, so far details on the beta, it's availability and the platforms it will run on have been pretty unclear. This week, we've uncovered a bit more information about the beta, and it has now been announced that the DOOM beta will only be available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

To get beta access, gamers must pre-order a copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order. As expected, a PS4 pre-order will allocate the owner a PS4 beta key, an Xbox One copy pre-order will allocate the owner an Xbox One beta key, and pre-ordering for the PC will grant owners a beta key for the PC version of doom.

It has also been revealed that players will need an active Xbox Live Gold membership to play DOOM online, but PlayStation 4 owners will get off the hook, as they will not need a PS Plus membership to give the DOOM beta a spin.

So far, the beta release date has not been revealed, and at this point we couldn't make a decent estimate, but it's likely to be between the release of Wolfenstein and some time next year. A FAQ was created to give a bit more clarification. It stated that, "Although you'll receive the Doom beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the Doom beta won't begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date. We will be providing more information on the specific content and duration of the beta test at a later time."
