Black Ops Deemed the Best Video Game Ending, Many Have a Different Opinion

So over 13,000 fans voted for their favorite video game ending of all time for next installment of "The Guinness Book of World Records Gamer Edition", and it was a surprise to everyone like Kotaku and Screwattack. And not everyone is happy with it. While I have played Black Ops and liked its ending, in my 20+ years of playing video games, I think there is way better endings than Black Ops. But in defense of these results Guinness released this statement about its listing:

"Conducted for the new Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer's Edition book, the list will cause heated debate among passionate gamers and provide further evidence of the growing sophistication and popularity of video games."

So that's their explanation for this list. A lot of gamers are vocal about it, but then against most gamers have a lot of different opinions on a subject like this. Personally, I think the best ending ever would have to go to Earthbound (aka Mother 2 in Japan) or Final Fantasy VI (FFIII here in the states) both for the SNES. Now, I could probably write an encyclopedia on the reasons why I would choose those games but I'll spare you the rant. Anyway, here is the entire list that Guinness has concluded upon:

50. Resident Evil 4
49. Star Wars: Knights of the old Republic

Some people aren't going to take this list as official. The folks at Screwattack decided that they have a better pulse on the gaming community than Guinness and decided to take matters into their own hand by hosting their own rankings of what were the best endings. So if you feel like what that list is entirely wrong (most would tend to agree) then you have a chance to voice your opinion over at Screwattack.

Halo 4 will be the first game in the epic space marine series to not be developed and looked over by Bungie. With them out the picture, you would think that 343 studios wouldn't upgrade or update the Chief's appearance. Well actually they decided to give him a bit of an upgrade, and you can see it in the new line of Halo action figurines that will be coming soon to a shelf near you, which you can see here on this Kotaku article.

Made by McFarlane toys which have released the first images of the Halo 4 action figures. And despite locking himself in a cryo chamber between Halo 3 and Halo 4, Master Chief got himself a new bit of armor on him. Additionally, McFarlane toys have released images of a new line of Halo toys based on the famous Xbox 360 avatars, as well as some new takes of the older Halo assets, including a nice ODST Drop Pod.

COD Now Has Over 40 Million Players, Half from MW3

Activision stated in a news release to sources like Kotaku that as of now its Call of Duty franchise has reached to more than 40 million monthly active users across all of its titles, half of them coming from Modern Warfare 3. Meanwhile, there are around seven million users in the game's Call of Duty: Elite service with around 1.5 million of them being paying annual members.

In January, Xbox Live reported that the three most recent Call of Duty titles captured first, second, and third place in its listing of Xbox 360's most popular games played. The figure included those playing the game while logged into Xbox Live, not just playing multiplayer by itself. World at War and the first Modern Warfare game also made the top twenty as well. Activision said that those two split around five million users, meaning 2.5 million each.

After this news release, Activision also confirmed it's working on the second iteration of Call of Duty: Elite, which will support this year's later release of the series.

EA Displays Their Plans for the Future

There is plenty of room in our gaming lives for more Battlefield 3, Bad Company and other military first-person shooters from EA, the giant game publisher's number two boss told the public through a recent interview with Kotaku just recently.

"I think the genre is big enough, and they're different experiences," said EA CEO Peter Moore said during a brief sit-down interview in New York City. Just a day before that, representatives of EA sent Kotaku and others to an event in San Francisco that was emblazoned with a logo for Medal of Honor, so likely a new Medal of Honor game is coming soon.

Moore wouldn't confirm the title's existence, but continually hinted at it. He also said that the game won't be like Battlefield, it will be more focused on being squad-based and will focus more on close combat so that the two titles aren't the same.

Afterwards, when asked about the Battlefield: Bad Company series, EA stated (post-interview) that while there are no announcements to make on the series, they see Battlefield: Bad Company as "a very viable component of the Battlefield universe moving forward." Meaning they we could probably see more Bad Company in the near future.

During the interview, Moore was asked about rival Activision's Elite service. Moore admitted that he admired Elite optional subscription service that lets participants pay $50 to get early discounted access to downloadable expansions for Modern Warfare 3.

"To Activision's credit,.. when you speak to retailers who were selling the cards, and you speak to gamers who think it's a great deal; they've done a phenomenal job in marketing digital content going forward...certainly we've got a digital content flow yet to be announced on that. We will look at different business models that will make a good value for the consumer...we continue to look at how we keep the disc in the drive, as we say."

Battlefield 3 now has over 11 million players. Moore commented that it isn't the last FPS you're ever going to see from EA as they will continue to bridge on its success and support the game at the same time. He did hint about his days of watching over Microsoft's early days of Halo map packs, which means we're likely to see more BF3 map packs.

As I have stated nearly a year ago, Kaz Hirai will become the next head of Sony. According to this article on Kotaku, it seems that it has been officially confirmed. Sony CEO Howard Stringer announced that his replacement as President and CEO of Sony Corporation will definitely be Kaz Hirai, when he steps down in June. They officially announced this move with Hirai's promotion in April (while Stringer will remain as executive chairman until his departure this Summer).

Being the former head of Sony's PlayStation division, Hirai has been known be a genius behind one of Sony's few profitable operations, the PlayStation brand. He managed to save the console from a horrid console launch as well getting it out of some dangerous situations in its lifetime. From a business standpoint, Stringer and Sony's shareholders will be hoping that Kaz Hirai will bring Sony back to its number one spot with his guidance and taking advantage of the Yen to the US Dollar.
