  • Rune: Ragnarok Is A New Upcoming Open World RPG

rune ragnarok new open world gameHuman Head, the same development team as Prey and Prey 2, is now working on a brand new open world RPG game called Rune: Ragnarok.

Surprisingly, Rune: Ragnarok isn't the first Rune game in the franchise. In fact, Human Head created a game called Rune that released way back in 2000.

It looks like Rune: Ragnarok will be the game to revitalize that universe in an exciting new way. So far, we know very little about Rune: Ragnarok other than that the development team is working on it, and it'll be released some point in the future.

No details on release windows or gameplay reveal trailers have yet been mentioned.

We do have a single non-gameplay reveal trailer though. In the reveal trailer the narrator is heard saying the following:

"From birth, the children of the North hear tales of the end of the world. A battle so great the gods fall and the Nine Worlds are consumed by frost and fire. But these tales are false. The gods did not perish. For seven years our worlds have been devoured by death and destruction. Now, mankind must rise and do what the gods could not. Ragnarok must end."

We don't have any information about which platforms the new Ragnarok game will be launched on, but Human Head does mention on their website that they work on PC, consoles, VR, and mobile devices. Hopefully, Rune Ragnarok will get a launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We may even see some VR-related gameplay if we're lucky.

The new MotoGP eSports championship started on July 27th. The event will start with six challenges.

  • Evil Controllers Shift Pro Controller Coming This Summer

evil controllers shift pro controllerWe've been doing modded controllers for years - we've provided gamers the tools they have needed to take their game to the next level. We've completely nailed the modded controller market.

Recently, there has been a surge in interest for pro controllers - this is a relatively new space in the controller market and we think it deserves our name on it.

    INTRODUCING THE EVIL SHIFT...

This new controller has been built from the ground up to compete in the pro controller space amongst giants like the Xbox One Elite.

The Evil Shift is currently in production for both the PS4 and Xbox One and will be made available this summer.

We've modded the Evil Shift controllers to their fullest potential, making sure not to cross any lines that would disqualify the controller from any official esports events.

This means we've got highly accurate interchangeable Evil Thumbsticks - these bad boys have more surface area, better grip, and can be swapped in and out on the fly.

Our new Evil Shift hairpin triggers have been designed to give your controller faster response time - we're talking a 50% reduction in tension. The smoother trigger press will increase fire rate in all games.

Our Evil Shift controller also features four unique paddle buttons at the rear of the control - they're remappable and incredibly responsive. The paddles also fit right where your fingers will be, so pressing the paddle buttons is like second nature to any gamer.

Everything about the Evil Shift controller is available as a single hardware product - there's no messing around with software or apps - just pick it up and play.

  • NRG Esports Gets Huge Sponsorship Deal

nrg esports washington dceSports is going to be huge in 2017. NRG eSports has just picked up a sponsorship deal that hits the six-figure mark.

The new NRG sponsor is none other than the city of Washington D.C.

D.C. Events is the convention and sports authority arm of Washington D.C. and their recent sponsorship with NRG eSports has shown the world that they're serious about putting their heart (and money) into the eSports industry.

The city of Washington D.C. has sponsored many companies in the past, but this is the first venture the capital has made within the eSports industry.

You may be wondering how this deal will benefit Washington as a city. The head of the convention and sports authority arm of D.C. hopes that this new sponsorship will help bring in more tourism and open up opportunities for hosted eSports events within local stadiums. This should help to bring in interest and sell tickets to those from all over the United States, but it reaches out to an international audience too.

"International tourists are a big component of our pool of folks that we're targeting to come to Washington and visit, they stay longer, they spend more money. We're about putting folks in hotel rooms, spending money in the city, eating in our restaurants, and ultimately, long term, all these people who come to Washington, many of them we want to actually stay here and live here. Raise a family here, send their kids to school here, for us, it's not only a short-term play on how to build up an arena that we're building and put on esports tournaments, but ultimately get people to come here, stay here and move here."

  • Xbox Game Pass Announced

xbox game passThe Xbox Game Pass has been announced and it's seeking to be the Netflix of gaming.

The newly announced Xbox Game Pass will cost users a monthly fee of $9.99, but with it will come unlimited access to over 100 titles. Unlike Netflix, users of the Xbox Game Pass will be able to download their games and play them - there will be no limit to the amount of games a player can download at once, as long as they have enough internal memory and their Xbox Game Pass subscription is still active.

Some of the games included in the Game Pass are older titles that can be picked up for cheap, both digitally and in physical form, but a lot of the games are recent releases. Most titles on the list so far are considered to be very decent games, too.

Highlights of the Game Pass include access to Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War Judgment, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and NBA 2K16. The Xbox Game Pass also includes a number of classic Xbox 360 titles and arcade games such as Kameo, Hexic HD, Perfect Dark Zero and Fable 3.

So far the Xbox Game Pass is limited to select users, but it will be rolling out to the public later this year. It's expected that more games will be added to the Xbox Game Pass regularly, but most new titles will be Xbox One exclusives. There may be a waiting period between a game release and it's availability on Xbox Game Pass, though. While Gears of War and Halo 5 are available, neither Halo Wars 2 nor Quantum Break are available on Xbox Game Pass yet.

  • Street Fighter to Hit ELEAGUE

street fighter v eleagueWell, well, well - what a surprise! Street Fighter will be a part of the next ELEAGUE and will be televised across the world on the TBS network.

The fighting game community hasn't quite had the same growth in the last few years that the FPS and MOBA genres have. Finally though, Street Fighter V is coming to ELEAGUE and it could mean great things for competitive fighting games in the following years.

The ELEAGUE Street Fighter V invitational event will begin on March 27 and it will run through March 30. A total of 48 players have been invited to the event, most of which have of course had their names heard in previous Street Fighter V events.

Thanks to the amazing Capcom Pro Tour rankings, ELEAGUE has already sourced 32 of the highest rated players on the leaderboards. 16 more players will be invited to the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V event by Capcom. So far we're not sure who these 16 players will be, but they're likely to be competing players or those well known in the scene.

The prize pool for the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V tournament will be $250,000 and the invitational event will take place at the G Fuel ELeague Arena in Atlanta. After the invitational event is over, ELEAGUE will broadcast four weekly events on Friday, April 7, Friday, April 21, Friday, May 5 and Friday, May 12. All four of these events will also be available for viewing on Twitch.

The final event will take place on May 26 - this event will see the final few battling it out live, and the grand finals will be held at 10 PM ET and broadcasted on TBS.

  • Nintendo Switch Availability May Be Limited

nintendo switch availability 2017Because of the popularity surrounding the Nintendo Switch, getting hold of a console on launch day may prove to be a little difficult. Currently, most Nintendo Switch consoles are being picked up via pre-orders, so if you're interested in picking up the console too, it's advisable to do this as well.

Alternatively, if you're planning to pick up a Nintendo Switch on launch day, you may be better off heading to the midnight launch. GameStop merchandising director Bub Puzon has mentioned that "We will have a limited supply of the Nintendo Switch systems on launch day for walk-in customers. Our teams made this happen. I would strongly suggest customers plan on attending one of our midnight launch events for a shot at securing one of these extra units. They will go fast!"

As you can imagine, this ethos is likely to be replicated with most other retailers and online stores.

The Nintendo Switch is set to release on March 3 - so far there is a total of 39 different games that have been confirmed for the platform. To begin with, however, just six titles will be available at launch. The six launch titles are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R, Just Dance 2017, Skylanders Imaginators and I Am Setsuna. All six games will retail for between $40-$60, while the Switch itself will be on sale for $300.

A number of other games are set to release throughout the remainder of 2017, with Super Mario Odyssey landing during the 2017 Holiday period.

  • Call of Duty 2017 Going Back in Time

Call of Duty 2017Over the past few years, the Call of Duty franchise has made plenty of changes thanks to a big transition towards future based combat. Unfortunately for Activision, it hasn't exactly been received that well.

The Call of Duty franchise has been one of the biggest and most successful first person shooter series of all time, but it was clear after Infinite Warfare that the fan appeal had started to wither away.

Due partly to the poor performance of Infinite Warfare and arguably partly due to the success of Battlefield 1, the Call of Duty title planned for this year has been confirmed to be going back to the series roots.

The information comes straight from Activision as they have looked back at and shared their successes and failures in 2016. Whilst Activision has now confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty game will take inspiration from previous games, nothing was said about how far back the publisher would be going.

It was confirmed that the next Call of Duty title will be developed by Sledgehammer games, however. Considering Sledgehammer has already had experience with developing Modern Warfare 3, perhaps the next Call of Duty game will return back to the modern combat setting. Alternatively, Activision may have meant even further back through Call of Duty's roots, all the way back to the original world war games during Call of Duty 1-3.

What are your thoughts on Sledgehammer Games and Activision taking a step back in time with the 2017 Call of Duty title?

  • Lionsgate Invests in eSports

lionsgate invests in esportsThe movie studio behind hits like The Hunger Games, Power Rangers, and the Expendables has announced its recent investment in esports team, The Immortals.

It seems as if we're seeing investments from all over the place when it comes to eSports, and now Lionsgate has got in on the action. Interestingly, The Immortals has already seen financial support from other popular names including Michael Milken and Steve Kaplan.

Lionsgate didn't share too many details on what their investment would involve or what they would hope to receive from their partnership, but it's clear that they see the expectation in the eSports industry to follow the footsteps of other popular sports industries, such as the NBA and NFL.

This isn't the first time Lionsgate has gotten involved with video games. In fact, they have an entirely separate wing dedicated to interactive experiences and video games.

Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures and Games mentioned, "We're delighted to be an early mover in a market that has the potential to transform the face of sports entertainment. Our involvement in eSports creates tremendous opportunities to develop new content and utilize our suite of distribution platforms for a coveted consumer demographic with compelling engagement metrics. Collaborating with an elite group of partners, the combination of the Lionsgate and Immortals brands will be formidable."

We wonder if Lionsgate has any plans for eSports movies in the near future - with their partnership with Immortals, they certainly have the chance to get a real insider's look at how the eSports world works.
