  • New LawBreakers 1.3 Patch Released

lawbreakers patch 1.3A brand new patch for LawBreakers has recently gone live on both the PS4 and the PC version of the game. For the most part, the patch has gone ahead smoothly, although there has been a temporary issue with weapon stickers that the developers are currently working to get solved.

In the new patch, a nighttime version of the Promenade map has been added. Role limits have now been set to 2, and Kick decals can now be sprayed by players across the game environment.

A number of balancing changes have been made to different game modes, too. For example, the Blitzball mode has been made more challenging. The Blitzball shield radius has been increased from 850 to 1000.

The Overcharge mode has had similar changes - the radius for reducing the Battery's shield has increased from 750 to 850, and the contest radius for the Battery has increased to 1000. The contest area has also changed to a sphere as opposed to a cylinder, which should make it easier for players to hold the spot while moving.

Uplink has had the same changes as Overcharge. Finally, the Trench map has had some adjustments. A collision area has been added to the top of the central zone above capture point B. This allows Harrier players to throw Supercharger Stations at that area.

A large number of bug fixes have also been applied to this latest patch, as well as some overall UI fixes and small tweaks.

  • Keyboard/Mouse Is Coming to Xbox One

keyboard mouse xbox oneFor those that forget or were unaware, Microsoft is still working on bringing mouse and keyboard support to the Xbox One. In fact, they're so close that they're almost ready to announce the first title to support mouse and keyboard support.

Director for Xbox, Mike Ybarra, recently spoke at a PAX West panel and answered some questions about the progress of keyboard and mouse support for the Xbox One.

They mentioned that the feature is still coming, but they need to be careful about how they implement it. They made it clear that they understand players are concerned about the unfairness of going up against somebody with a keyboard and mouse, so they'll make it a mission to ensure developers have guidelines in place.

With these guidelines, it will be down to the developer to decide whether they add keyboard and mouse support for their games. Developers are also encouraged to give those with a controller the option to only play with other people with a controller. It'll be the same for those that have a keyboard and mouse so that players can be given an equal playing field.

For games that don't have competitive multiplayer, for example, a single player or a co-op game, keyboard and mouse support can be added without the need for a system such as the one mentioned above.

The Xbox team will give developers the opportunity to be coached on how to implement a fair system if a developer does decide to add keyboard and mouse support for their Xbox One title.

  • PUBG Playerbase Overtook F2P Title Dota 2

pubg playerbase beats dota 2If you haven't played Playerunknown's Battlegrounds yet, chances are you've at least heard of it. The game has quickly become the most played Steam title on PC. Recently, Battlegrounds managed to overtake Dota 2, the reigning Steam champ.

Battlegrounds hit a peak of 877,000 players earlier this month. With these stats, it narrowly outperformed Dota 2 for both peak player and concurrent player numbers.

Since the inception of Dota 2 on Steam, not a single game has managed to consistently stay as high in the charts as Battlegrounds has. Over the last few years, very few gameplay titles have managed to get past Dota 2, either. This is partially due to the fact that Dota 2 is a free-to-play MOBA title, just like League of Legends. It's also due to the fact that Steam's company, Valve, has developed the game.

The closest game to compete with Dota 2 is Valve's other game Counter Strike: Global Offensive. A game currently retailing for around $10.

The recent stats are even more impressive when you realize that Playerunknown's Battlegrounds currently retails for around $30, three times as much as Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Currently, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is exclusive to the PC platform. A third party developer is working on bringing Battlegrounds to Xbox One, and we should see it make it to Xbox's Early Access program soon.

We don't yet have a release date for the Xbox One version, and there's no news of PUBG ever coming to PlayStation 4.

  • Minecraft Themed Xbox One S Bundle Showcased

minecraft xbox one s bundleA brand new Xbox One S bundle has been showcased and it features a Minecraft themed skin for the console and the controller.

The Xbox One S console itself has been coated with a skin that mimics the pattern of a dirt block in Minecraft. Once standing up, the dirt section of the block can be seen at the bottom, with a small layer of green pixelated grass at the top.

The controller has been themed to look like a Creeper. The controller itself is almost entirely covered in the famous green pixel Creeper pattern. The front-facing buttons feature a green color scheme, while the bumpers, triggers, and sides are black.

A Creeper face can be seen in the center of the controller, with the Xbox Guide button directly above it.

Recently, Mojang has worked closely with Microsoft to bring all versions of Minecraft together within the single 'better together' update. With this, all Minecraft players can play with each other, regardless of what platform they are using.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Sony refused to let the cross-platform play happen between their consoles and other platforms. Because of this, the PlayStation versions are limited to multiplayer between consoles within the Sony range.

This excludes Sony smartphones - unfortunately, because they are running the Android operating system, they will not be able to play with those on PlayStation consoles. They will, however, still be able to play with those on any other platforms, including Xbox One and Windows 10.

  • Xbox One Support for Original Xbox Games Still Coming

xbox one original xbox supportWhile it may have been some time since Xbox originally announced backward compatibility for original Xbox games, it's been reiterated recently that the feature is still being worked on.

Phil Spencer was the person to step up and speak about the progress that's currently being made for the backward compatibility feature.

When asked about whether Xbox would make any announcements about original Xbox compatibility, Phil Spencer responded by saying "I hope to bring more on Original Xbox backward compatibility this year, yes."

By this comment, it sounds like the feature is still in the works and it may be some time before it's finalized. There may be some blocks that could potentially slow down the project, but if we're fortunate, we may get more finalized details about an expected release date for the feature before the end of the year.

It's already been previously confirmed that original Xbox games will run better and look nicer on the Xbox One. While games won't have texture overhauls, their frame rates will be improved thanks to the increased performance of the Xbox One over the original Xbox.

There will be a library of games available for original Xbox compatibility, starting with Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy. The library of compatible original Xbox games won't be as extensive as the Xbox 360 compatible library, but it'll without a doubt feature some of the most popular original Xbox titles.

  • Gears of War 4 August Update Arrives

gears of war 4 august updateA brand new update has landed for Gears of War 4 and it adds two new maps and a number of other changes. Learn about the new features in Gears of War 4 below.

First things first, let's talk about the new maps that have made their way to Gears of War 4 in the new August update. The first map is Canals. This is the return of a classic. The map features three bridges that cross over a small canal. The map itself is quite small, and players will best remember it for the Longshot spawn that is available at the very center of the map.

In fact, Canals is all about sniping. The three bridges create three lanes for snipers to aim down - getting hold of a sniper on this map will be very useful. It's the sniper's dream.

The next map is Forge Blitz - this is an even tighter and more fast paced version of the original Forge map. A few changes have been made to the original version of Forge to make Forge Blitz flow much better. You'll be in the action within seconds after spawning, but don't worry, there's just enough room to give a few seconds of peace each time you spawn.

Some other changes have been introduced to the August Gears of War 4 update. For example, the daily first win credit reward has been increased to 500 credits instead of just 100. Some small changes have also been made to the Escalation map.

  • New Ghost Recon: Wildlands Patch Hits

ghost recon wildlands patch 3.0A brand new patch for Ghost: Recon Wildlands has arrived for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The patch, which is codenamed 3.0, comes in at a hefty 5.3GB.

In the new update, new season challenges have been added to Ghost Recon: Wildlands. These new challenges can offer players rewards for completing. Each season will be themed, with the first starting in this new patch. The first season is named "The Rise and Fool of Unidad" and will encourage players to take down Unidad operators.

Season challenges will be reset every Wednesday, so players will be able to come back each week to earn more rewards each season. Players can earn up to three rewards each week as well.

A bunch of other changes and tweaks have been added in Ghost: Recon Wildlands, including improvements to "narrative content delivery," which essentially means AI ghost dialogue has been improved. The radio playlist in cars has been randomized too, so you shouldn't find yourself listening to the same songs each time you jump into a vehicle.

The 3.0 patch also launches alongside the first content expansion, which has been named Narco Road. This expansion features a number of new missions; 15 main missions and 5 side missions, new vehicles, new racing challenges, new weapons, and new outfits.

The Narco Road expansion is currently only available to season pass holders, however, it will soon be available to purchase for those that do not currently own the season pass

  • New Copilot Controller Mode Comes to Xbox One

copilot controller mode xbox one insiderA brand new Xbox One Insider update showcases some of the new upcoming features we can expect for the Xbox One, including a brand new Copilot controller mode.

The new Copilot controller mode will allow players to assign two controllers to a single control input. This opens up the opportunity for better accessibility for those with disabilities or better support for parent-child gameplay.

Here's an example of the Copilot controller mode in action: A parent can switch on copilot mode while watching their child play the new Yooka Laylee game. The parent can spectate, but when the child comes across a part they're finding too difficult, the parent can jump in to help with their own controller. Both the parent's controller and the child's controller will be able to control the characters in Yooka Laylee.

Alternatively, if a user has a disability that makes it difficult for them to access all of the buttons on a single controller at once, they now have the option to split the controls across to controller, giving them more accessibility.

This new feature is still in the 'beta' phase in the Insider version of the Xbox One dashboard, but it should be pushed out to the live Xbox One dashboard soon. So far, the feature seems to be working as it's intended. We think this is a great new feature that should bring new opportunities for everybody to the living room.

What do you think of the new copilot controller mode?
