  • What is Sonic Mania?

Sonic ManiaWhat is Sonic Mania? We've explained exactly what the new Sonic game is in this blog, as well as providing details about its release date.

Sonic Mania is a brand new Sonic game that's planned to launch later this year. Sonic Mania will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PC. The game will first be available starting from August 15.

Sonic Mania is not the new Sonic Forces game. Instead, Sonic Mania is a celebration of 25 years of Sonic the Hedgehog - it's a throwback to the fans and it's a 2D re-imagination of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

The graphics style for Sonic Mania is exactly what you'd expect for a retro re-imagination. The background music fits in perfectly as well, as does the gameplay. Sonic Mania is a new game, but you'll be convinced it isn't - it includes old levels from the original Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as 'remixed' versions of those same levels.

Players will be able to play as Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna and Tails - players are given the ability to switch between each three characters at any point throughout gameplay.

Releasing on August 15, Sonic Mania will be available digitally for $18.99 in North America across all platforms it's getting a release for. Its price in other countries will vary slightly. A physical vinyl soundtrack will also go on sale alongside the release of Sonic Mania.

  • Ghost Recon: Wildlands Open Beta Coming

ghost recon wildlandsStill not sure about whether to purchase Ghost Recons: Wildlands? An upcoming open beta will be the perfect time for you to give it a try before you buy.

There has already been a limited closed beta for Ghost Recon: Wildlands, but Ubisoft has now confirmed that an open beta will be made available to the public before the game releases.

No definitive date has been set for the open beta, but considering that the game releases on March 7, it's definitely going to be put online sometime between now and early March.

It could be possible that the open beta will be put online as close as the weekend before the game releases, as this has been a tactic used by Ubisoft in the past. While the word beta was synonymous with glitches and bugs, the open beta for Ghost Recon: Wildlands will hopefully be mostly bug-free. The servers may struggle a little bit, but this should be the perfect test for Ubisoft to ensure everything is in working order before the final release on March 7.

Once Ghost Recons: Wildlands is on shelves both digitally and in-store on March 7, players on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC will be able to purchase and play. It's also expected that the open beta will be available for all three aforementioned platforms.

What are your thoughts on Ghost Recon: Wildlands so far? If you haven't purchased it yet, make sure to get in on the action when the upcoming open beta is released.

  • Battlefront 2 is Coming 2017

battlefront 2 2017It's almost been two years since the first DICE Battlefront game, and now another one is on the horizon.

The first DICE-EA Battlefront tile may not have been accepted well by the community, but DICE has had chance to learn from their mistakes and they're hoping Battlefront 2 will be appreciated by FPS and Star Wars fans alike.

First things first, the new Battlefront 2 game is slated for a Holiday 2017 release, which means it'll most likely arrive around the same time of the year the first Battlefront title did in 2015. DICE will also be getting help this time round from another studio. The studio which has been hired to help out is none other than Criterion, the same guys behind the explosive Burnout video game series.

Another newly formed development team named Motive Studios will also be helping out. So far we're not sure how much of a part either of the other two developers will play in the development process, but DICE will be the main team, with Criterion and Motive offering additional support.

Battlefront 2 will feature a number of changes when compared to the original. Firstly, Battlefront 2 will have a single player campaign, which is an area that the original received a lot of complaints for. Battlefront 2 will also feature gameplay from all Star Wars eras, so this could include the original trilogy, episode 1, 2, 3 and all of the newer movies.

  • Super Mario Run Gameplay Showcased

super-mario-runHeads up everyone, Super Mario is gearing up to be a front-runner for 2016 mobile game character of the year.

While Super Mario has never left the comfort of Nintendo's consoles in the past, Mario's maker has finally wised up and have now prepared a Super Mario mobile game. The game is called Super Mario Run and we've known about it for a while now. However, today Nintendo finally revealed gameplay for Super Mario Run and we're actually quite impressed.

As long as Nintendo sticks to their previous words, Super Mario Run will be free to download, with extra content and levels which can be unlocked with a one-time purchase. Nintendo won't be using any of the terrible in-app purchase practices seen in other popular mobile games such as Clash of Clans or Clash Royale.

The game will feature the same gameplay we've learned to love from the Super Mario world - side scrolling fast paced action, plenty of levels and boss fights with Bowser. However, instead of the traditional control scheme, Super Mario Run will have a simple one-handed 'touch to jump' control system. Mario will continuously run forwards and players must tap to jump over obstacles and collect coins.

It seems a little odd at first, but Super Mario Run should feel very similar to the traditional Super Mario games on Nintendo's handheld consoles.

Super Mario Run will be hitting the app stores for free from December 15. However, you may be able to try out the game early by visiting an Apple Store and playing on the iPad and iPhone display units they have available.

  • Witcher 3 1.08 Patch Incoming

    witcher 3 1.08

The Witcher 3 will be getting another large patch in the near future and it will include a number of gameplay changes. The latest upcoming update is patch 1.08 and CD Projekt Red has talked a little bit about what the patch will consist of.

Whilst CD Projekt Red hasn't yet given a release date, the developer has mentioned that the update is "coming soon." Whilst all platforms are getting the same treatment in terms of new patches, the newest updates often make their way to PC first, and are then released on console after they go through an approval process.

Perhaps the most exciting change in patch 1.08 is the inclusion of "preparatory changes" for the New Game Plus mode. Whilst New Game Plus won't be added in 1.08, CD Projekt Red are leading up to releasing it.

Other than various fixes and tweaks, the mean changes are within the gameplay section of the patch notes and they can be read below.

    GAMEPLAY:

    • Fixes a rare issue where items would disappear from the stash.
    • Fixes a very rare issue which would cause Geralt to get stuck when trying to run.
    • The interaction pop-up will no longer appear on lootable objects that are empty.
    • Fixes an occasional glitch in one of the dwarf combat animations.
    • Heads chopped off during finishers will no longer disappear.
    • Players can perform a roll just before landing to significantly reduce the damage caused by falling.
    • We've added a tutorial pop-up window explaining this to make it clearer.
    • In patch 1.07, the level requirements for certain items were scaled up, leaving some players stuck with only unusable gear. With patch 1.08, we are introducing the Wolven Hour potion. This potion will be available in everyone's inventory once they install the patch. It will reduce level requirements on all gear for a period of one hour. This will give players time to level up or find alternative equipment using the gear that was available to them in patch 1.05 but became unusable after patch 1.07. After one hour, the potion's effects will cease and the requirements for all gear will revert to their original, pre-potion values.
    • Fixes an issue where players were unable to compare their items with ones sold by merchants.
  • Fallout 4 Countdown Teased

Fallout 4After years worth of rumors and false information spreading across the internet about a new Fallout game, we may finally be hearing something official from Bethesda themselves. On Monday, some Fallout fans noticed that the official Fallout website design has changed.

The previous content on the Fallout website has been replaced with a large countdown timer that will end at some time tomorrow. As you can imagine, there's definitely going to be some kind of Fallout related announcement tomorrow and it it's very likely that it could be to do with a brand new Fallout game.

Considering that E3 is just around the corner it'd make perfect sense for Bethesda to announce a brand new game to grow hype ahead of the onslaught of other video games that are bound to be announced at E3.

Unfortunately we still have no idea about what the next Fallout game will be like and Bethesda has done an incredible job to keep everything hidden from their fans. Once the countdown timer is over, however, we'll hopefully have a much better idea about what Bethesda has planned for the Fallout series.

The last Fallout title, Fallout: New Vegas, was released in October and November 2010 as a standalone expansion to Fallout 3. Since then the Fallout franchise has mostly become dormant until today.

As soon as we know more about Fallout 4 we shall keep you updated. For now, all we can do is wait in anticipation for the countdown timer to hit 0.

  • Batman Arkham Remastered May Be Coming

batman arkham remasteredA survey has leaked online giving details about what could be Warner Bros. plans to release a remastered version of the Batman Arkham games. Whilst nothing is for definite at this point in time, the survey definitely suggested that Warner Bros. were certainly looking into the idea of bringing the entire collection to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In the survey, a number of questions are asked. One question asks respondents how likely they'd be interested in a remastered Batman collection, whilst another question asks what name respondents would prefer the game to be called. A few concept designs for the remastered versions front cover were also shared.

In one area, it came across as if the Batman remastered collection was definitely going to happen. The information provided in the survey can be seen below, although the first sentence, stating "WB Game is recrafting the critically acclaimed and best-selling titles from Rocksteady Studios" is perhaps the most important.

"WB Games is recrafting the critically acclaimed and best-selling titles from Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, for the next-generation consoles." reads the survey summary. "Far from just up-reused visuals and textures, both games are being rebuilt from the ground with upgraded models, environments, lighting and HDR, effects and shaders, and new high quality post processing effects."

Respondents could pick between Batman: Arkham Anthology, Batman: Absolute Arkham, Batman: Arkham Legacy, Batman: Arkham Masterpiece Collection and Batman: Arkham Remastered for the name for the game.

  • New God of War 3 Remastered Trailer Revealed

god of war 3 remasteredA brand new trailer for the upcoming God of War 3 Remastered for the PlayStation 4 has been released and it depicts Kratos in all his HD glory. There's no doubt that God of War 3 Remastered looks like the most visually impressive game we've seen in from the IP so far. Players will be excited to hear that Sony are aiming for 1080P resolution and 60fps for God of War 3 Remastered, but the way Sony worded sounds as if a 60fps constant frame rate may not be guaranteed.

Considering that the entire game will be getting a visual overhaul in God of War 3 Remastered, it'd be understandable to see why 60fps may not be achievable all of the time. Despite this, Sony are putting a lot of effort into the performance side of the PlayStation 4 port.

If you plan to pre-order God of War 3 Remastered ahead of the launch of the game, Sony will offer up a few free bonuses. Unfortunately none of the bonuses will consist of in-game content because the remastered version has mostly untouched the content from the original God of War 3.

Instead, players will be given a free dynamic theme for their PlayStation 4. The theme given out will be God of War - Fall of Olympus. If players pre-order through the PlayStation Network, the theme will be given out to those players this week instead of when the game releases.

Players can also get a free 90 day rental for both God of War and God of War from the PlayStation Network for pre-ordering God of War 3 Remastered.

  • Banjo Kazooie Successor Hits Kickstarter

banjo kazooie yooka layleeA successor to the ever popular Banjo Kazooie franchise hit Kickstarter and it blew up the internet.

We've all been wanting a new (decent) Banjo Kazooie game for years but it seems that Rare either has no interest or they've been too busy on other projects such as Kinect Sports Rivals. Thankfully a team of ex-Rare employees has banded together to make a development company called Playtonic Games and they are set to bring life to Banjo Kazooie again.

Playtonic Games recently posted up a Kickstarter page for their upcoming game. Named Yooka-Laylee, the game will feature the same 3D buddy-duo platformer experience that made Banjo Kazooie so popular. Yooka-Laylee will be filled with all sorts of collectibles for players to find in the world. This time round, collectibles will play a meaningful part in the way new areas of the world are opened up.

The audio and art team working on Playtonic Games are also going for a very Banjo Kazooie-esque theme and the main environment artist is Steven Hurst, the same guy responsible for the environments in Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata.

Perhaps the most amazing of all so far is the Kickstarter goal for Yooka-Laylee. Playtonic Games were originally hoping to reach $270,000 to fund the development of the game. Within just a few days the funding has already reached close to 2 million and there is still over 30 days left to go. It'll be interesting to see just how much Playtonic Games can raise for Yooka-Laylee.
