Recently a screenshot of interest has popped up in an official Ubisoft forum. The reason why the screenshot is of importance is the fact that this picture might be our first glimpse at a new Prince of Persia remake.
Prince of Persia has come quiet far since its modest beginning as a side scroller. The franchise has been re-invented several times during the past years and I believe all of the games released under the name have been amazing. I count myself lucky to have played all of the recent games.
Being a fan of the franchise I was immediately interested in the possibility of a new remake especially since Ubisoft is behind it; Ubisoft has been responsible for a LOT of amazing games this past year and has an amazing line-up for 2013.
As you can see, the "Prince" seems to be darker toned and quite buff this time around. Also, from get up of the characters and the architecture of the surrounding structures we can assume that the game (at least part of it) might take place in Egypt.
Based on the technical stuff all over the bottom of the shot as well as the "floating"crowd, it is safe to assume that the game is still a work in progress. If you take a closer look at the writing at the bottom you can read two important things, first of which is "POP Zero 2" and the second being "DX11".
Some of you might already have heard about POP Zero which was supposed to be a reboot of PoP set in modern day but, the game was never released. So could this be a re-thinking of that concept? If so, are we going to see something along the lines of Assassin's Creed where there are two timelines involved, one in the past and one in the present? It would be cool if we start up somewhere in the past and the story continues to the future. Not an impossible scenario if we take the "Sands of Time" into consideration.
Also, the tag "DX11" might mean that Ubisoft is developing this game for the next-gen consoles. With all the recent buzz about next-gen consoles, I won't be surprised if this is the case. I just hope that all this leaked info about next-gen games are an indication of imminent unveiling of the consoles. Too early to hope?
Although Ubisoft has yet to confirm the authenticity of this supposed reboot, the image of the darker prince in an Egyptian setting does coincide with other previously claimed leaked images of a new POP game. The following images (given below) were posted on NeoGaf.com by a member who claimed that someone mailed him the pictures on Twitter.
I for one can TOTALLY see the resemblance, and as such shall stay hopeful in the existence of a new Prince of Persia game. For more news related to this or any other game, be sure to keep an eye on our site as we keep you updated on the world of gaming.
