  • Rune: Ragnarok Is A New Upcoming Open World RPG

rune ragnarok new open world gameHuman Head, the same development team as Prey and Prey 2, is now working on a brand new open world RPG game called Rune: Ragnarok.

Surprisingly, Rune: Ragnarok isn't the first Rune game in the franchise. In fact, Human Head created a game called Rune that released way back in 2000.

It looks like Rune: Ragnarok will be the game to revitalize that universe in an exciting new way. So far, we know very little about Rune: Ragnarok other than that the development team is working on it, and it'll be released some point in the future.

No details on release windows or gameplay reveal trailers have yet been mentioned.

We do have a single non-gameplay reveal trailer though. In the reveal trailer the narrator is heard saying the following:

"From birth, the children of the North hear tales of the end of the world. A battle so great the gods fall and the Nine Worlds are consumed by frost and fire. But these tales are false. The gods did not perish. For seven years our worlds have been devoured by death and destruction. Now, mankind must rise and do what the gods could not. Ragnarok must end."

We don't have any information about which platforms the new Ragnarok game will be launched on, but Human Head does mention on their website that they work on PC, consoles, VR, and mobile devices. Hopefully, Rune Ragnarok will get a launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We may even see some VR-related gameplay if we're lucky.

  • Knack 2 Gets Free PS4 Demo In Europe

knack 2 demo europeA new demo has been released for the upcoming PS4 exclusive, Knack 2. The new demo is currently only available in Europe and Australia. If you're in either of these regions you can jump in and download the demo for free right now.

So far, the demo weighs in at just 2.6GB. If you download it from the store today, you'll have roughly one week to play before Knack 2 is launched worldwide. Unfortunately, there's no evidence that the Knack 2 demo will come to any other regions, including North America.

Knack 2 was originally revealed via a leak quite some time ago, but it wasn't until Sony's PSX event last year that the game was officially revealed by Sony. Now, Knack 2 is set to launch on September 5 in North America. Knack 2 will also launch in Europe and Australia a day later, on September 6.

The original Knack didn't get as much critical appeal as the developers had originally hoped. However, game designer Mark Cerny feels like the sequel touches on a lot of the areas that the original game got wrong.

When asked about the sequel, Mark Cerny mentioned that "There's a lot unexplored there, I think anybody who played the [original] game would tell you that."

Are you interested in the Knack sequel? If the previews are anything to go by, it looks as if Knack 2 will be a considerable improvement over the first Knack game.

  • Minecraft Themed Xbox One S Bundle Showcased

minecraft xbox one s bundleA brand new Xbox One S bundle has been showcased and it features a Minecraft themed skin for the console and the controller.

The Xbox One S console itself has been coated with a skin that mimics the pattern of a dirt block in Minecraft. Once standing up, the dirt section of the block can be seen at the bottom, with a small layer of green pixelated grass at the top.

The controller has been themed to look like a Creeper. The controller itself is almost entirely covered in the famous green pixel Creeper pattern. The front-facing buttons feature a green color scheme, while the bumpers, triggers, and sides are black.

A Creeper face can be seen in the center of the controller, with the Xbox Guide button directly above it.

Recently, Mojang has worked closely with Microsoft to bring all versions of Minecraft together within the single 'better together' update. With this, all Minecraft players can play with each other, regardless of what platform they are using.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, Sony refused to let the cross-platform play happen between their consoles and other platforms. Because of this, the PlayStation versions are limited to multiplayer between consoles within the Sony range.

This excludes Sony smartphones - unfortunately, because they are running the Android operating system, they will not be able to play with those on PlayStation consoles. They will, however, still be able to play with those on any other platforms, including Xbox One and Windows 10.

  • Nintendo Looking to Take a 'Different Approach' to eSports

nintendo switch esports]Nintendo has always been an important player in esports. While the spotlight in recent years has quickly been focused on PC titles like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, and League of Legends, Nintendo has always been giving out love to its grass roots esports communities.

If you've ever been part of a Smash Bros. event, whether it's as a competitor or a spectator, you'll know that the eSports communities surrounding some of Nintendo's games are some of the best communities in the world.

Despite the healthy scenes that exist for some of Nintendo's top titles, they still haven't broken out to the mainstream audiences as massively as Counter Strike or League has in recent years.

Nintendo wants to work to bring their eSports titles to mainstream audiences, and they're interested in taking a different approach to get there.

Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime has got a few words to say about Nintendo on eSports. He shared his ideas in a recent interview with The Verge.

In the interview, Reggie Fils-Aime mentioned that "We were in esports back in 1995 with the very first Nintendo World Championships. I think what Nintendo is doing, as we always do, is our unique view on this, and finding ways to make it a bit more mainstream and a bit more massive, maybe than others have done. We're going to do it differently."

To begin with, Nintendo will look at pushing out eSports opportunities for three of the most recent game release announcements; Pokken Tournament, Splatoon 2, and ARMS.

  • Tencent to Invest Billions into eSports

tencent billions esportsYou may not have heard of Tencent yet, but if you're into eSports, you'll certainly be introduced to them during the next few years.

Tencent is a Chinese internet investment company that has purchased or invested in some of the biggest names in internet and video game history. Tencent has subsidiaries including Riot Games (League of Legends), Supercell, (Clash Royale) Epic Games, (Gears of War) and a range of other internet companies.

Over the next five years, Tencent has pledged to invest close to $15 billion dollars in the eSports industry. This $15 billion will go towards running tournaments across the globe, improving prize pools and payouts, developing new talent, and helping to lay the groundwork for the future of eSports and providing tools for upcoming teams and organizations to get off of the ground.

Tencent hasn't given too much information about what exact plans they have prepared for the next five years, but they seem very dedicated to turning eSports into an even bigger industry than it already is. With Tencent owning both Riot Games and Supercell, it's clear that they're looking to bring this new eSports growth to all platforms that support competitive video games.

With Tencent's connections, the $15 billion will also go towards building the kind of infrastructure that a long-lasting industry needs. This will be especially true for Chinese eSports, but Tencent's contributions are no doubt going to help eSports on a global level as well.

  • Evil Controllers Shift Pro Controller Coming This Summer

evil controllers shift pro controllerWe've been doing modded controllers for years - we've provided gamers the tools they have needed to take their game to the next level. We've completely nailed the modded controller market.

Recently, there has been a surge in interest for pro controllers - this is a relatively new space in the controller market and we think it deserves our name on it.

    INTRODUCING THE EVIL SHIFT...

This new controller has been built from the ground up to compete in the pro controller space amongst giants like the Xbox One Elite.

The Evil Shift is currently in production for both the PS4 and Xbox One and will be made available this summer.

We've modded the Evil Shift controllers to their fullest potential, making sure not to cross any lines that would disqualify the controller from any official esports events.

This means we've got highly accurate interchangeable Evil Thumbsticks - these bad boys have more surface area, better grip, and can be swapped in and out on the fly.

Our new Evil Shift hairpin triggers have been designed to give your controller faster response time - we're talking a 50% reduction in tension. The smoother trigger press will increase fire rate in all games.

Our Evil Shift controller also features four unique paddle buttons at the rear of the control - they're remappable and incredibly responsive. The paddles also fit right where your fingers will be, so pressing the paddle buttons is like second nature to any gamer.

Everything about the Evil Shift controller is available as a single hardware product - there's no messing around with software or apps - just pick it up and play.

  • Destiny 2 Announced, Call of Duty WW2 Rumored

destiny 2 announcedDestiny 2 has been announced and rumors of a Call of Duty WW2 release in 2017 are circulating the internet.

The biggest news this week comes from the Bungie camp. Finally, after months of us knowing it was coming, Bungie has announced Destiny 2. The upcoming game is set to release later this year and should come to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This time around, Bungie may have learned from their mistakes on their first release for the Destiny universe. So far, we have had a single Destiny reveal trailer, and it already showcases more character and liveliness than perhaps the entirety of the first Destiny game.

Fans that were disappointed about the lack of story and scale in the first Destiny title are definitely going to be excited about Destiny 2.

We've also heard rumors that the next Call of Duty game will be inspired by the events of WW2. After seeing EA's back-in-time success with Battlefield 1, it comes as no surprise that Activision may have ordered one of the three COD developers to work on a world war shooter again.

The new Call of Duty game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games. According to rumors, the title will simply be Call of Duty: WW2. Quite honestly, we're excited about seeing Call of Duty go back to its original roots, even if Battlefield did beat them to it first.

We'll share more news about Destiny 2 and Call of Duty WW2 as it comes in.

nintendo switch release dateAfter a big unveiling event, details about the Nintendo Switch have been revealed to the world. We now know when the Nintendo Switch will release, the first party games it will include at launch and the price tag of the console and some of its accessories.

If you'd rather pre-order the Nintendo Switch, you can do so from a local retailer. For example, GameStop is currently accepting pre-orders for the Switch in the United States. The price tag for the Switch sits at $299.99 in the United States and $399.99 in Canada. The Nintendo Switch can be purchased for 279.99 pounds in the UK.

  • Mass Effect Andromeda Gameplay Hitting January 4

mass-effect-andromedaWe've got big news for any Mass Effect Andromeda fans out there.

It's been confirmed that a gameplay showing for Mass Effect Andromeda will take place on January 4 at NVIDIA's CES Keynote. We're not sure what sort of gameplay will be showcased, although a small description alongside the announcement mentioned that the game environments and some gameplay will be shown.

By this logic, it may make sense that we'll be getting a look at the scale of the universe in Mass Effect Andromeda and a close look at the environments on each world. Whilst this is mostly speculation, it would also make sense considering that the event is being hosted by NVIDIA. It may also be possible that NVIDIA will be announcing some of their own new products at the CES Keynote, especially in regards to PC gaming.

While the Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay shown at the CES event may be broadcasted from a PC, it'll still be a great look at what the game will have to offer on other platforms as well.

This isn't the first time gameplay for Mass Effect Andromeda has been shown. Last month, a near-five minute 4K video was released by Bioware that showed some of the gameplay mechanics for Mass Effect Andromeda and also some of the kind of environments players can look forward to.

While it isn't set in stone, the release date for Mass Effect Andromeda is currently slated for Spring 2017.
