  • GTA V Heists DLC Finally Revealed ... Hopefully

    GTA V Heists DLCI can't be sure whether this is a practical joke by Rockstar, or someone at their office decided to start April fools a whole four months early, but according to reports, Rockstar are gearing up to release their patch notes for a new update this month, and the exciting part is that they will contain the long awaited GTA Online heist missions.

    Rockstar did of course mentioned fairly recently that the first update to come after the release of the new console ports would include the new GTA heists, but after waiting so long, it's almost quite hard to believe.

    However, in the new patch notes for an update planned for December 23rd, it looks as if heists will be making their way to GTA Online, alongside other game changes. Unfortunately, this information only comes from a 'tipster' from within the development team, so we can't promise that any of this information is true or not.

    Interestingly, Rockstar has tried to cover up any spread information of the new update leaks, so we won't be posting the full details, however a quick patch summary can be read below.

    Heist (Planning Board) layout update for both High-End apartment interiors. This will be available across all platforms.

    Brand new 'Heist' selection menu featuring it's own Social Club-based leaderboard and misc options showing the list of un-completed Heist missions). This will be available across all platforms.

    34 Texture Modifications to 4 different locations, this is in favour of added effect during Heist missions. This will be available across all platforms but the texture detail is improved on current-generation.

    6 Heist missions in 4 unique locations.

    5 Cops and Crooks missions in 4 unique locations.

    Improved anti-cheat methods. Some code for this is included in the DLC, but is not associated with the Heist feature itself.

    Three brand new vehicles. The names of these vehicles are still identified by their Dev tag and are not yet finalized but the approximate vehicle class is; Sports Classic and Sports.

    Brand new Apartment - CCTV function with two AI-characters in your apartment running them. This feature is available for current-generation only.

    Three Heist-themed clothing items - these items are still identified by their Dev tag but are the following types; Special Outfit (available from the counter).
    Two Cops and Crooks-themed masks. These mask items are available in current-generation only.

    BZ Gas will now be purchasable from Ammu-Nation but can only be used in Heist missions - you are responsible for stocking-up on these and if you run out, your team mates will need to complete that objective for you.

    5 new hairstyles - these are still identified by their Dev tag.

    2 new contact lenses - these are still identified by their Dev tag.

    Additional matchmaking for Heist missions between Crews - this is a feature implemented in 1.17 but will be activated in 1.19/1.05.

    A new phone contact named 'Jeff' will be available, offering a chance to resurrect a killed-off Crew member during your Heist operation. The voice of this contact or any other options associated are still unknown at this point.

    Last-generation players will have the option to 'Email' other Crew members about your planned Heist mission, whoever emails you a Heist plan will be the leader of the operation.

    Current-generation players will have the option to 'Email' other Crew members about your planned Heist mission and have the ability to print those out in your Apartment and store in your documents, whoever emails you a Heist plan will be the leader of the operation.
    All players will have the ability to use their Heist planning board in order to select a location, chosen online-Crew members and their role and the length of time before the Heist request expires from their 'Email' app on their phone.

    4 new audio files, relating to the Heist missions. These are identified as an alarm bell, the sound of a vault opening, sirens and a background track.

  • Destiny's DLC The Dark Below Breaks Weekly’s and Heroics

    Destiny DLC The Dark BelowEver since the release of Destiny, Bungie have been filling the game with variations on different challenges each week. These weekly challenges are something that often keep players coming back for more, and these, alongside other timed challenges such as the heroic missions are the core of end-game gameplay.

    Unfortunately, the new Destiny DLC, the Dark Below, has caused some trouble with the way weekly's and heroics work, and many Destiny players have sparked outrage in the Destiny community.

    Currently, because of the way the Dark Below works, often the weekly missions and heroics are selected for the new DLC areas, which prevents any non-paying members from getting their hands on their weekly challenges.

    The only solution for players at this point in time is to purchase the $19.99 DLC, and without doing so weekly's will remain locked out for those players. Honestly, I don't see Bungie doing this purposely, and I'm sure it will be addressed shortly. Still, I do think it is a little unfair for those players that have supported the game since day one.

    I do hope that Bungie either add non-DLC weekly's and heroics to the game, or remove the DLC ones completely, because otherwise the new DLC is essentially locking out content from the game that was originally intended to be part of the original package.

    Many players have already expressed their criticism for Destiny's lack of content, so I can't see any of this going down too well across the internet. Do you think this is as big of a deal as some are making it out to be?

  • Heists Will Be First Update in GTA Online for PS4

    Rockstar have already announced that Heists will be the first thing they work on after launching GTA for the next gen consoles, but in new news it's been revealed that Rockstar will not release any content updates without releasing an update with the heists in first.

    That means no more clothing packs, no more vehicles, nothing until the heists are pushed out to public servers. This is great for two reasons - firstly it means the developers of GTA 5 will be dedicated to finishing online heists, and secondly the heists will be released fairly shortly after the game's launch.

    Like with many things of similar fashion, no definitive release date for online heists has been given, but all four consoles will receive it at the same time, as "the first GTA Online update to happen after the game launches on PS4 and Xbox One."

    After hearing complaints about the delays of online heists, Rockstar replied with a pretty standard apologetic statement "They are taking more time to create than originally anticipated. We are very sorry for the delay, and are working hard to bring them to you as soon as we can. Please know that we are focused as always on making the best possible content for you to play and we are thankful to all of you for your patience, understanding and support."

  • Destiny The Dark Below is $20

    destiny the dark belowDestiny The Dark Below is the first DLC planned for Bungie's latest title, and there has been a bit of controversy surrounding the expansion pack. Whilst DLC has now been pretty much accepted as a common practice by video game developers, they are usually at only a portion of the price of the full game.

    Destiny the Dark Below has been set at $20, which is around a third of the full game price. To make things even worse, the same DLC has been put up for £20 in the UK, which is more than $30.

    So, what exactly do you get out of Destiny The Dark Below, and is it worth paying one third to one half of the original game price for it?

    In Destiny The Dark Below, players will be given access to three new story missions, two new strikes, one of which will be limited to PlayStation 4 will Fall 2015, and a new raid called Crota's End.

    Finally, Destiny The Dark Below will include three new Crucible maps called Pantheon, Skyshock and The Cauldron - the game should also get some new weapon and equipment times in the DLC.

    Honestly, this doesn't seem like $20-$30 worth of content, so it will be interesting to see how many people opt to buy the upcoming Destiny expansion.

    So far, Destiny has been incredibly successful, so it's odd that Bungie are pricing their DLC content at such a high price.

  • Smash Bros Will Get MewTwo as Free DLC

    Smash Bros MewTwoWhilst all of the main characters for Smash Bros have now been revealed, Nintendo still have plans to add more characters to the roster in the future in the form of DLC.

    The first character to get the Nintendo DLC treatment has been revealed to be MewTwo. This is a character that hasn't been in the franchise since Smash Bros Melee, so I think there's a lot of excitement for MewTwo.

    MewTwo will be offered for free to those who buy both the 3DS version of Smash Bros and the Wii U version of the game. Whilst he is still in development at this point in time, MewTwo should be made available at some point in Spring 2015.

    Whilst he's been mentioned as a DLC character, no word has yet been given on whether MewTwo will be made available for those who do not buy both versions of the game, although the word DLC does suggest that he will be put up for sale for those not willing to splash out on both the 3DS and the Wii U version of the game.

    There's been a lot of new news about the upcoming Smash Bros games recently. On top of the announcement of the free MewTwo DLC promotion, Nintendo recently announced a brand new 8-player Smash mode which will be in the franchise for the first time ever.

    Whilst the game is available in some regions, the Wii U version will be available on November 21st for North America and December 5th for Europe.

  • New Subclasses Rumored for Destiny DLC

    destiny new subclassesAlthough we know we can expect some new story missions for Destiny in future DLC packs, what else can we expect? So far, nobody really knows, but a new rumor suggests that the game may receive new subclasses in future DLC, along with other interesting content.

    The most interesting part of the rumors involves three new subclasses, one for each class. Below, we have provided information about each of the three new subclasses.

    Titan - Crusader
    Super: "Purge" You shoot this giant horizontal column of light directly in front of you. Upgrades can thicken the cylinder (default is size of Guardian, upgrade is about 200% increase), have the column shoot through walls, or shoot a second column behind you as well.
    Grenades:
    - 1 Throws 3 small fire grenades at once. Think like a very small version of the Warlock Void special.
    - 2 Drops grenade behind guardian. Designed for escape tactics when being chased.
    - 3 Self planted grenade. Button activates grenade for 8 seconds. Any melee damage taken at that time sets grenade off, barely doesn't kill a guardian by itself.

    Warlock - Arc Thrower
    Super: "Jupiter's Storm" Creates an orb about the size of a Servitor slightly above and in front of you. The orb floats in the air and shoots lightning out at anything that come near it. Upgrades can increase range, can cause chain lightning, or cause the orb to spawn further away from the player character.
    Grenades:
    - 1 Arc Grenade that detonates on second button input.
    - 2 Grenade the transfers health to the Warlock.
    - 3 Fence Grenade - Creates small electrified fence. Sticks to walls like the Titan Lightning Grenade and lasts about half as long.

    Hunter - Trapper
    Super: "Void Well" Drops a Void well on the floor. Enemies inside the Void well cannot jump, and have reduced movement speed. Upgrades can reduce all enemy movement, prevent enemies from using abilities, or increase radius of Void Well.
    Grenades:
    - 1 Generic void damage grenade, doesn't bounce. Sticks to any surface.
    - 2 Bolas that act as a sticky, but do minimal damage while greatly reducing targets movement speed, and prevents them from jumping.
    - 3 Caltrops. Throw them on the ground. Not super easy to see. A large amount of them on the ground, stepping on one detonates it for a small amount of damage.

  • Bungie May Consider Adding Destiny Matchmaking for Raids

    destiny matchmaking for raidsThere were many key multiplayer components that never made it into Destiny, including voice chat, and a decent matchmaking system, and whilst these features were not added at launch, Bungie have suggested that such features may eventually be added if the community requested them.

    One of the mentioned features included a proper matchmaking system for the raids in Destiny. So far, it can be difficult to find a decent group of players willing to complete a raid, and some players have voiced their frustration about this.

    One of the most popular raids at the time of writing is the Vault of Glass, but without a group of friends to play with, it's proven difficult for some players to complete, considering that there is no matchmaking available for this raid.

    Bungie talked about this issue, and described that whilst they would like raids to be more accessible, some of the stories of players interacting with one another are a reason why matchmaking wasn't added into the game at launch. David Dague from Bungie made a post to address the issue.

    "The Raid was designed for solid teams of killers who have made a commitment to solve a dense and explosive riddle. Most of the raiding parties who have emerged victorious from the Vault of Glass have sworn that one weak link would have doomed their chain.

    "There have been other stories, of course. We've heard tell of Guardians who met each other just outside the door that leads into that vault. Strange tales have reached our ears - tales of total strangers who have banded together to see the Raid all the way through to a triumphant finale.

    "Those stories surprise us, but the players of our games always have. The best I can do to answer your question is to let you know that you've been heard. We're having conversations about how Matchmaking might support the more challenging activities in Destiny. It's a start. Keep sounding off about it, and maybe someday some matchmade Fireteam mates will hear you, too."

    Personally, I see no harm in adding matchmaking to difficult raids, this approach would at least give solo players a slight chance at completing the mission.

  • Destiny DLC Content Revealed by Glitch

    destiny dlc glitchThere has been a lot of controversy behind the idea of DLC - whilst the concept of extra content after a game's launch is pretty much universally accepted, developers who release games with the sole intention of incrementally releasing paid-for content following the games launch is often frowned upon, especially when the content has already been created before launch.

    This seems to be the case with Destiny, a brand new collaboration by Bungie and Activision. A new glitch has revealed what looks to be new areas of the game currently not accessible by players.

    Whilst it's not confirmed that this glitch shows off DLC content, it's certainly not available in-game legitimately as of yet, so Bungie are either deciding to add it in later for free, or as part of the DLC packs.

    For Earth, players have found one new Strike mission and four new story missions, located in the North East section of the map.

    For the Moon, two new strikes have been found, and a level 28 high end raid was discovered. Venus has a brand new story mission, and Mars has a brand new level 20 strike. The reef has been discovered to have a level 28 raid, and the Crucible has a special tier based event with rewards for players who win consecutive games.

    Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed that this content isn't in the game already, but I guess Bungie, and particular Activision, have chosen this route, and there's not really much we can do besides from either pay or not play.

  • New Destiny Patch Nerfs Engram Farming

    destiny engram farmingAfter reaching level 20, a lot of players in Destiny have resorted to strange methods to try and collect the most amount of loot possible in a short time period in the hopes to acquire new legendary and excotic equipment.

    The most popular engram farming method involved standing in a certain spot, firing at a cave full of enemies, reloading, and then firing again as soon as they spawn, typically just 5 to 10 seconds later.

    A week ago, this area in Destiny was always occupied with players working together to farm the hell out of that cave, but Bungie has noticed this strange behaviour in players, and whilst they praised their attempts at finding a engram farming method so quickly, they have since nerfed the cave, making respawn times from enemies in certain areas much larger.

    Bungie addressed the issue by saying, "The social experience of a cave farming run is amazing: the herding to get a team of Guardians all behind the line and firing in the right direction, the rush to grab the loot, the scramble when the panic wave starts, the beckoning glow from inside the cave."

    "The speed at which the community organised around this activity was inspiring and humbling to us."
    "But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities."

  • Maps unveiled for Titanfall IMC Rising DLC

    imc rising titanfallRespawn Entertainment have now revealed all three maps for their upcoming third and final Titanfall DLC, IMC Rising, and by the sounds of it, season pass holders of the game are in for quite a treat.

    The first map in the new IMC Rising DLC has been named Sand Trap, which features a network of trenches that are connected within a desert environment.

    Map creator Chris Dionne mentioned that, "One of my main goals with Sand Trap was to use old ideas in new ways. In the center is a buried bunker inspired by the buried architecture in Fracture; this lets Titans stomp around above while pilots scurry below. Across the map are deep trenches that create a well-run highway for pilots; inspired by wall running in Rise they give quick and (relatively) safe routes across the map."

    The second map for IMC Rising is a map focused on various levels of elevation and has been named Blackwater - this will be a map for those looking for some great 360 degrees jetpack-parkour combat.

    The final map is Zone 18, an abandoned IMC base hidden within the wilderness.

    IMC Rising for Titanfall will be released later this year for Xbox 360 and Xbox One - like the DLC packs before it, IMC Rising will be part of the season pass, and season pass holders will be able to pick it up for free, whilst other players will need to pay to access these levels.
