  • Retail Video Game Chain Accused of Snatching Personal Information

Gamestop accused of taking personal information

As seen here about Gamestop, a California woman filed the suit on Wednesday of this past week, claiming that a Alameda County GameStop store recorded her personal information such as her name, her credit card information, and her PII (personal identification information) after purchasing items with her credit card. The woman, Melissa Arechiga, believes that GameStop uses the information like addresses and various other private pieces of information to benefit sales and future aspects of their store(s).

In the view of the legal system of California, these actions of Gamestop are in violation of California's Civil Code in section 1747.08, which prohibits corporations from requesting that credit card users to provide their PII to be viewed and recorded.

A class action complaint as been filed so far and has defined that all Gamestops in the state of California are having their staff perform these actions that are against the state's Civil Code. So far, Gamestop has given no interest or comment on the litigation.

Now as from this blogger's opinion, I really don't know much about how California's laws and civil codes work nor can I compare them from here in Arizona. But I do know that it does seem like a bit of intrusion of privacy on the part of Gamestop. While most credit card companies do view information, if what Melissa Arechiga is stating is true, and Gamestop is using personal information to benefit themselves, that's a bit going over the line. I mean...there are other ways to find out other ways to improve sales.

  • Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, New Nintendo Toys

Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, New Nintendo Toys

Global Holdings, a company that works with Nintendo to get their items on the shelves of our local Wal-Mart, GameStop, ect., have produced a line of Nintendo toys that were released at the 2011 Toy Fair!!! They offer many different shades of Yoshi, a Mario figure who holds your DS, a Dark Link, with red glazed eyes, and of course they didnt forget about Daisy Donkey Kong and Kirby! Also many characters from the Mario and Zelda games are featured. Personally I would love to add the Dark Link to my collection of figurines, what would you add to yours?

  • Online Gaming leads to death for 30-year-old in China

How many lives do you really get when gaming?

    Addicted to video games

Weve all heard the warnings that parents give us in regards to playing video games, obesity, laziness, a drop in grades, violent and aggressive behavior. But now thanks to a 30-year-old man in China there is now one more reason to add to their list, a cause of death.

The 30-year-old man collapsed and fell into a coma in an internet café just outside of Beijing. According to witnesses he had been gaming online nonstop for three days. During those three days the man consumed very little food or drink and was getting absolutely no sleep whatsoever.

Not only did this man prove how sever online gaming can be, but he also racked up a bill over 10,000 Yuan ($1,500) on internet gaming in just 30 days.

The police have ruled out homicide and they have now removed several computers from the café for further investigation on the specific causes of death.

Maybe there is a bigger issue with addictions to online gaming than we realize. But at the same time, one or two hours here and there doesnt nearly compare to the addiction of playing for about 72 hours.

  • Facebook becomes even more of a haven for stalkers

Social Network site used often to invade Privacy

Steps to becoming even more of an obnoxious post break up wreck!

And I thought the see friendship feature that lets you stalk every wall post, mutually attended event, photo and probably daydream between two people was creepy enough. Apparently not.

Because of sites like, you can now keep tabs on the girl who walks past you like you dont exists relationship status and do all but break it up yourself. With the tagline You like someone. Theyre in a relationship. Be the first to know when theyre out of it, anyone can now find out immediately when their crush, ex, estranged parent, or best friends cat has broken up with their significant other via email. How nice! Saves you the time and shame of wandering over to creep on their page yourself!

In theory, the site is supposed to be for friends to keep tabs on friends, so a guy can just sit around waiting until he regains the buddy that ditched him for the ball and chain, or for a girl to know whens the right time to bring out the Ben and Jerrys and tequila. Right…because thats EXACTLY how people will actually use the site (I hope people hear my sarcasm). Youd think people would just wait for a phone call from the person, not an email from a website in that case. Or wait for it to show up on their feed if theyre that excluded from friend group knowledge.

I personally think this is one of the creepiest additions to Facebook yet, and maybe it will be hugely popular, with the anonymity and instant updates. I just pray no one ever adds me to (his or her) relationship hit list.

  • Gears of War 3 release date set

Gears of War set to be released in September

Great news! As of Wednesday (February 23rd), Gears of War 3 officially has a release date. This is great to know, especially since we were all expecting it this spring and it unfortunately got delayed.

Microsoft now announced that Epics third installment to the Gears of War series will be dropping as an Xbox 360 exclusive on September 20th in both the US and Japan. The final chapter of the trilogy, the game is expected to bring the series to a great closure with exhilarating single and multiplayer features. The game will supposedly take place eighteen months after the events of Gears of War 2, featuring the survivors stranded on an island, living in a converted aircraft carrier.

Microsoft held a media event about the game in San Francisco on the 23rd to announce the news. They also released images of the box art. Ive included that here, along with a few screen shots.

Cant wait for the game to come out!

  • Billy Mitchell Opens an Arcade

Record breaker opens up Arcade near Orlando Airport

If you watched "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters," you know Billy Mitchell, the man who has been sort of labeled as the evil villain of the retro-arcade gaming world. Well he recently opened an arcade at Orlando's airport with the name that of the movie. What's more oddly enough is that with good guy Steve Wiebe is also featured as part of the arcade's entrance as seen here but I think the way Billy made the picture was to glorify himself and make Steve look a bit....dull and confused. If that's true, the guy's living up to the vision that was given to him in the movie. However....

With the arcade sporting the name of the movie, it must mean everyone's on....possibly Steve also. Which could mean that the rivalry between the two turned into some kind of across the borders mutual relationship. That's one possibility. Who knows?

While the arcade is up and running stocked it doesn't have a Donkey Kong machine. And also it lacks the classic titles of the past, since it sports the movie's name and the movie was about record breaking in the retro gaming world. My guess is that the airport business staff likely didn't see the movie and thought more modern games would generate more income.

    The arcade sports the following:

    • Dead Heat
    • Terminator Salvation
    • Super Bikes 1 (2 sets of them)
    • Avatar pinball machine
    • Air hockey table
    • Aliens Extermination

If are you are at Orlando International Airport, best to look for this arcade...despite the lack of RETRO ARCADE GAMES in an ARCADE that sports the name of a movie about RETRO ARCADE GAMES.

  • A Ban on Late Night Online Gaming

    Vietnam places a gaming curfew!

While China was facing issue with the deaths of those who were addicted to online gaming Vietnam has came up with a plan to help cut down the amount of time spent playing online games and eliminate side effects.

The Ministry of Information and Communication has asked internet service providers to block access to on-line games from 10:00pm to 8:00am. "Provincial departments of information and communication will inspect on-line games activities nationwide and deal with organizations that violate regulations by canceling their services," said the ministry's Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang (Info.VN).

The Vietnamese government will revise this decree sometimes this year and make improvements, until then starting March 3rd, the internet curfew will go into action.

  • A List Gaming Modz Could Predict

    Gaming Modz

Gaming Modz showcase those characters and titles that the gaming community really seem to latch on to. Guinness just asked over 13,000 gamers to vote for their favorite video game characters at their Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition website. The top 50 list compiled seems fairly accurate if you take a lesson from the gaming modz you see within gaming communities.

In the top 5 of this list you'll find characters that have been used for hundreds of gaming modz as well as some very cool community driven gaming modz based off these personalities.

#1 Mario – Mario will just about always be number one, for a lot of people the original Mario was their first game of this medium that people experienced. Since the release of Youtube, it seems as though people have been modding the game to make it nightmarishly difficult.

#2 Link - People can't get enough of Link and Hyrule. Check out this gaming mod of a zombie infested version of Hyrule.

#3 Master Chief – Master Chief doesn't say much, but that doesn't mean we don't love playing as him. 3D or 2D. See him in 8 Bit-Halo.

#4 Solid Snake - Solid Snake and the Metal Gear revival that took place on the PSX made us fall in love with this unique genre of espionage, but we also really dug Solid Snake. We wanted to start playing Solid Snake is all of our games. See this gaming mod of Solid Snake in Resident Evil 4.

#5 Cloud – Cloud and the gang paved way for westerners to appreciate the Japanese roleplaying game genre and we've never forgotten him. While he has made a ridiculous number of cameos in Kingdom Hearts alone, it doesn't mean the fans have gotten tired of this soldier quite yet. He ends up in the most ridiculous spots.
