  • Accessible Gaming: Games helping people recover from a stroke.

Playing computer / video games help stroke victims in recovery.

Medical scientists have discovered that video games can help in the recovery of a patient from paralysis after suffering from a stroke. From the information found here, it states from an article published in the Journal of Neuro Engineering and Rehabilitation, computer simulations and techniques used mainly in the film industry can help produce computer-generation actions. These actions can help restore lost functions in an impaired arm caused by the stroke.

They added that current training medical programs that focus on regaining hand and arm movements use both robotic training aids and computer / video games, in result the techniques address both issues simultaneously. While they aren't using fast paced action games like Call of Duty but normal games like Plasma Pong, the simulations are helping restore precision grip and individual finger motion.

Patients in the program experience 2 - 3 hours of training over eight days resulted in high improvement and have had better stability of their damaged limbs with smoother and more efficient movement. A deeper look into the study shows that controlled and quicker finger movements were more highly noticed. The only downside to this program is that motor skills of an injured arm/hand (not fully effected by the stroke) showed no improvement at all.

"Patients who played these games showed an average improvement in their standard clinical scores of 20-22% over the eight days...these results show that computer games could be an important tool in the recovery of paralyzed limbs after a stroke." This wasstated by the project leader, Alma Merians.

So in the end it seems that video games can help out in the medical field. Working a medical clinic previously in my life, I am glad to see more rational yet progressive ideas in the field of medicine, especially in helping in the recovery of anyone who suffered from a stroke.

  • Game vs Trailer

    Game vs Trailer

As most people know the past few weeks have been the NBA playoffs. Many teams
have come and gone and we have loved watched every second of it. Now for those of us who
enjoy playing games as opposed to watching them, Monday night gave us a chance to come
together and watch the Mavericks play Oklahoma City. Why you ask? It was in order to see the
unleaked Modern Warfare 3 trailer of course.

People had to watch the basketball game to wait and see what all of us gamers had been
waiting for. While this may have been done for money reasons, so more people would tune into
the basketball game. It sure gave a huge turnout, because basketball fan or not, if you wanted to
see it you had to watch. Now I watched the basketball game and even though I was enjoying it
I was still waiting for it to come on. This trailer did not come during the first two quarters, nor
did it come during half time. It came almost towards the very end of the game, during the fourth
quarter. Who knows why they waited as long as they did to show it, but the wait only made it
that much better. As soon as the commercial aired everyone breathed a sigh off relief Im sure.
The wait is over, and not only that, the commercial was awesome; all the different maps they
showed and the story looked straight beast. The music only made it that much better as well.
The intense beat of the music seemed to match my almost non-existent heart beat. The only
words I can say to describe this trailer was, awesome.

  • Gears of War 3

    Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 has been long awaited for many gamers. Especially since the release date
has been pushed back an entire year. Many people are itching to get their hands on this game
since the whole Gears of War franchise has been extremely successful.
People who have played the Gears of War series enjoy most of their time spent
playing the multiplayer online. The beta for Gears of War 3 was released to the a select few
gamers about a month ago back in April 2011. These players got a chance to test out the new
multiplayer online for the game. The turnout was huge and the results were nothing short or
fantastic. Some of the reviews of the beta gave us inside information on what the new game is
going to be like and how much everyone enjoyed it. The special effects of some of the online
multiplayer maps were supposedly amazing. Apparently, one of the maps is taken over by a
sandstorm and in all the maps you can interact with some of the set ups on the stages as well.
Although the beta only gives you a glimpse, it gives us a good look on what to expect from the
    rest of the game.

All in all this game sounds like it will be a best seller and will be at the top of my
personal list of games to buy during the year of 2011. The game is set to release Tuesday
September 20, 2001. So if you dont have the money to spend on the game, now would be a
good time to start saving! Another item to add to your list of things to buy is the Gears of War
3 controller we are coming up with here at Evil Controllers. It is definitely a must-by and well
worth the money if you want to be a contestant for one of the top gamers on the leader boards for
    Gears of War 3.
If you already own Gears of War 2, don't forget that Evil Controllers offers an Active Reload controller to give you perfect reloads EVERY TIME. You can also expect us to release a Gears of War 3 Controller around the game's release date.

  • A Little Helps a Lot

    A Little Helps a Lot

Everyday my email gets spammed with tons of junk mail, but the most pile up junk mail I receive is from daily deal sites. (And yes this is my own fault for originally signing up, but sometimes they have some great deals!) The other day I was contacted by the And their websiteintriguedme. The has a similar concept to the daily deal sites, but instead of attempting to sell you meaningless products, they instead promote a different 501(c)3 nonprofit every day. And if you like the nonprofit they are promoting you are able to donate money. Most internet donation sites offer online donations but with a minimum donation of $5 or $10. The Philanthroper allows viewers to donate $1 while promoting the phrase, A little helps a lot.

This site really hit home for me for a number of reasons. I believe in giving back to the community every chance you get. There are several nonprofits that Evil Controllers is involved with, most recently we have been involved with The Susan G. Koman Foundation, Arizona Helping Hands and most recently The AbleGamers Foundation which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

Giving back to the community is an important part of my life, it helps me remind me that while I might be having a bad day or be stuck in a rut that there are always people who may have it worse off that I do. So remember, A little helps a lot.

  • LA Noire Review and Thoughts

Evil Ambassador Copiozo's thoughts on LA Noire.

LA Noire takes you back to 1947 Los Angeles, the second War has ended and you're Cole Phelps, a new cop with a decorated war record trying to right the wrongs of his past and then-present time LA. He starts out from the bottom and work his way to the top.

This is not your typical Rockstar game. And frankly, I love that. A breath of fresh air of stealing cars and running over pedestrians to make a faster path to whatever GTA-esque crime event you have to do. Being a boy in blue means you have to behave well. So that means no running over pedestrians or even a lamp post (it will effect your end results).

This isn't any run of the mill Rockstar game. They really went all out to differentiate itself from other titles. The first notable feature is the technology they used to mimic facial expressions, which is a factor to figuring out cases. People can be lying or telling the truth by studying their faces during interviews (such as their eye movement or their mouth movements). To me, it was making me think more and making use of that class in college where we studied body language.

I really love the setting and how Rockstar took the time and effort to recreate 1947 California. They discuss the social and political problems of the time and the atmosphere of what it was like back then. This all adds the beautifully written story that is laid out to you with a lot of twists and surprises.

Gameplay-wise, don't except a full action game. Cole may have to pull out his firearm, but only when the game mandates it (during a specific time during a main story case or an optional side case). He will exchange fisticuffs with some rough resistance to the law but it isn't that hard.

In the end, looks like Rockstar did it again. Last year they wow'd us in the old west with Red Dead Redemption, this year they wow'd us in the 1940s with LA Noire. I recommend picking this up.

  • More development on Modern Warfare 3.

    Modern Warfare 3.

Found here on Kotaku, it seems that Modern Warfare 3 will be the concluding part of the Modern Warfare series of the Call of Duty franchise. As the game will continue on Modern Warfare 2's story and will lay to rest the conflict that is going on in the world of Call of Duty. There is also details of what we are to expect from defending New York City from an invading Russian force to stopping terrorist attacks in London to other parts of the world in chaos. So it seems the whole world is getting in on the conflict caused by Makarov.

My thoughts is that this what WWIII is going to be like. Hopefully, it will not be what Einstein stated.

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Knowing the controversial nuclear event in the first Modern Warfare, and the use of tactical nukes in MW2's multiplayer, I do wonder if nuclear weapons will be used again....especially since this is turning out to be a World War III scenario.

Lets just hope Einstein's quote doesn't come to life in this game's universe.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

The most anticipated game of the year; Modern Warfare 3 is the sequel to the MW2, widely considered to be the best first person shooting game of this generation. In a sense, the first time I picked up a Ps3 controller last year to play MW2 (I know I am still new to the COD series), I originally hated the game. I found it so hard to adjust from Counter Strike and Halo games where your enemies were so easily visible and the guns were so straightforward. The beauty of the love for Call of Duty though, is that it grows on you. After many months later, I currently dominate and thats being humble.

However, Black Ops is a much slower paced game than its predecessor MW2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 looks to combine the best of both worlds. The faced paced gameplay of MW2 with the all the glorious customization that we have grown to love from Black Ops. With a revamped graphics engine and a story line that is essentially World War 3, MW3 looks breathtakingly good. One thing I know for sure about the Call of Duty series, is that it's never too late to jump in, so whether Black Ops made you mad for some reason, or you just havent been engrossed since the Halo days, I am here to make you one promise: this game WONT disappoint you. In fact, I am going to make the bold prediction that this game out does every other Call of Duty ever made. On November 8th, 2011 our world will be at war.

Also, I would highly recommend picking up one of our modded controllers specifically the stealth adjustable fast reload. The reason being is that this controller has saved me from death quite often as of late. That extra split second of time after reloading really makes a huge difference in tight situations. Dont forget it still comes with rapid fire and auto burst in addition to the fast reload. Cheers!

  • Dirt 3 Vs Fear 3

Got that racing fever? Cant wait a few months for Forza 4 to come out? Go shred in Dirt 3, which was released today! Choose from 50 cars and over 100 courses, this is a game that all racing game lovers should pick up. With an emphasis on sick tricks and nasty conditions that you must traverse in stunning HD quality, Dirt 3 delivers on all cylinders. The biggest 2 biggest factors that really push this game into the upper echelon of best racing games ever created however, are the sound and the interaction with the environment. The reason I list sound first is because judging from the reports I have read, and since I am not a car expert myself, all indicators point to the notion that the sounds emitted from these virtual engines is startlingly realistic. The sounds of different terrain, the crunches of packed down snow, and swoosh of gravel and mud as you slide is just a few of the endless sounds I am referring too.

If you think you can wait an extra month to spend that hard earned cash there is the much-anticipated shooting game Fear 3. I had played Fear 2 for a few months on PC before getting hooked on Call of Duty (my lame computer couldnt it). During that time period I was so accustomed to having some monstrosity jump out of corners at me that I felt like my whole life was on edge. I would be browsing delectable soups at the grocery store, when my girlfriend would jump out from behind a an aisle looking like that creepy girl from The Ring, and I would scream like a pansy. Im kidding my girlfriend didnt look like that creeper, and I certainly dont shop for soup, only manly meats. When I was a wee little boot, I thought Silent Hill and Resident Evil were scary. Fear 3 combines the awesome fun of a first person shooter, and throws raw, thrilling fear right in your face. Whether its being chased by monsters in dark corridors or being startled by that girl from The Ring, Fear 3 is going to be spectacular and should be on everyones radar as a must have game. It hits stores June 21.
