  • Metal Gear Online Gets Survival Mode

    A patch has just been introduced to the Metal Gear Online servers that adds a few changes. The biggest addition to the new patch is survival mode for MGO. The new survival mode has been talked about for a while now but it has finally made it's way into the game.

    In survival mode, players can team up to make six-player squads that fight it out as long as they possibly can. A squad in survival mode is given 10 tries each week to try and accomplish a five win streak. If they get five wins in a row then they will be given different rewards, however, if their team loses before that five win streak, no rewards will be given. The 10 allotted attempts reset every Tuesday.

    However, if players purchased the Cloaked in Silence expansion pack, they will be able to play survival mode as many times as they want each week. The pack included a few new maps and introduced Quiet as a playable character. Cloaked in Silence is available for $4.

    The rest of the update included a number of fixes to bugs and some balance changes too, including a few tweaks to how the claymores can be set off. Konami has also worked on bringing down the affect ping (latency) has on players and the actions they perform in Metal Gear Online.

  • Destiny Multiplayer Changes Coming

    Recently the Destiny team has planned to host another Twitch livestream to talk about the upcoming April update for their game. The new update planned for release at some point later in the month will feature a number of changes to the Crucible as well as some tweaks to the sandbox elements of the game.

    Apparently the new update will include changes "both large and small." To top everything off, the April update will also include some weapon changes. If you've followed the development of Destiny then you'll know that weapon balance changes have become pretty commonplace.

    Interestingly, Bungie wrote something that sparked a bit of curiosity in us in their even post for the upcoming Twitch livestream. Bungie wrote, "We might even find some ways to prove some new design theories in magical, delicious combat." Sounds intriguing. We're looking forward to finding exactly what Bungie means by this.

    Like previous livestreams, it's likely that it will last for around an hour in the morning or early afternoon in US time. Whilst you'll have to be there at the right time to catch it live, the broadcast will be saved to the Bungie Twitch channel so that you can watch it after it has finished.

    There have already been two different livestream events for the April update so as you can imagine, it's going to be a pretty big one. The first livestream took a focus on the new activities players will be able to take part in whilst the second livestream event focused on the new items and gear that will be available as rewards via PvE and PvP content.

  • Halo 5 is Getting Infection Mode

    Finally Halo 5: Guardians is getting it's own version of the Infection game mode that has been popular in Halo since Halo 3. A custom gametype called Zombie which gained a large following during the Halo 2 days is where the Infection game mode was truly born however.

    In Infection, the game starts with the majority of players on the 'human' side. A small selection of players, usually just one or two, are considered 'infected' and they must hunt down the human players. If an infected player kills a human, the human will then respawn as an infected. In nearly all cases, all players are usually infected before the time runs out.

    The infected players are equipped with fast movement and a glowing green energy sword, whilst by default the human players will have the shotgun and the magnum at their disposal.

    343 Industries has slowly been adding new game types to Halo 5: Guardians since it's release and the latest Infection game mode will be added alongside the Ghosts of Meridian update.

    The new Ghosts of Meridian update will also add a number of other features and gameplay content, on top of a variety of new cosmetic items that will be available within REQ packs. Perhaps the biggest new addition to Ghosts of Meridian, besides the new infection mode, will be the Tyrant game map. Unlike most other new maps, Tyrant has been built completely in-house and has not been built within forge.

  • OpTic and Pepsi Team Up to Launch Brisk Mate

    In a huge new sponsorship deal, OpTic has teamed up with Pepsi to bring a brand new energy drink to the market. Aimed at gamers looking for the best fuel to power up their own game, the new drink is called Brisk Mate. The Mate in Brisk Mate is pronounced mah-tay and is based off of a South American leaf that is used in the drink that has the same pronunciation at the end of it's name. The drink is an iced tea that comes in a range of different flavors and also comes with a range of other benefits you'd hope to see in an energy drink.

    The Brisk Mate drink has been described to give players a "smooth, energizing spark" and as well as using the sponsorship deal to showcase their new drink, Pepsi will allow the OpTic teams from different games to drink the drink at events - we'd expect there to be enough Brisk Mate to last the entire OpTic organisation for an entire lifetime.

    Perhaps the coolest thing to come from the new sponsorship deal, at least for us viewers, is a number of paid-for events that Pepsi has forked out for. These events will feature a number of offline competitions for the OpTic members to take part in, the first of which was a paintball match and the second was go-karting. We're looking forward to seeing what OpTic and Pepsi do next, and we also are a little curious about how Pepsi's new drink will taste and whether it'll have a chance to compete against the big energy drink companies like Monster, Relentless, Rockstar and Red Bull.

  • Infiltration First To Quality for Capcom Cup 2016

    The first event in anticipation for Capcom Cup 2016 was played out this month and it saw Team Razer's Infiltration take a win against Mad Catz's Tokido in a 3-1 game in the grand final. The event was a Final Round Street Fighter V tournament and by taking the win, Infiltration has now qualified for Capcom Cup 2016.

    Mad Catz Tokido took second place and in third place was Mad Catz Mago. Haitani Tetsuya placed in fourth. At this point all four players have already fought against each other in the past so the games that took place at the tournament were a spectacle to watch. With that being said, Infiltration was a long way ahead of the rest of the game and it almost seems as if the rest of the Street Fighter pro scene has a lot to catch up to at this point in time. Last year Infiltration was one of two players to take six event wins and he’s already had a great start to the new season.

    However, last season was played on Ultra Street Fighter IV so it will be interesting to see how the competition pans out after players have had more hours in Street Fighter V. Unlike previous launches, Street Fighter V got a simultaneous worldwide launch so all players have had the same amount of time to get to grips with the new title. With that being said, American players still couldn't reach the top 4 spots, despite Snake Eyez and Filipino Champ being expected to have a good shot at it. Both Snake Eyez and Filipino Champ reached top 16, however.

    Asian players have still got a huge lead over other regions. In the past 21 CPT events, there have been no American wins, 20 wins from Asian players and one win from Brazilian player Keoma Pachec.

  • CLG Wins Halo World Championship and Takes Home $1 Million

    After a beautiful display of games over the course of last week, CLG has managed to take home the cup for the Halo World Championship and have bagged themselves the biggest single cash prize in all of FPS eSports history. In fact, CLG's $1 million win over Team Allegiance has set them to be the first team outside of Dota 2 to win $1 million in a single event.

    Even eSports titles like League of Legends and Counter Strike: Global Offensive haven't seen prize pools as large as the HWC and as you can imagine CLG are pretty chuffed about their win. In the grand finals, CLG (Or Counterlogic Gaming) went against Allegiance and CLG absolutely crushed the competition.

    The first game was Capture The Flag on Coliseum, which ended in a tie with CLG's Frosty taking one flag and Allegiance's eL toWin's taking another. Because of the tie, the first game was replayed and this time CLG crushed Allegiance with a 3-0 scoreline. SnakeBite managed to capture 2 flags whilst Royal 2 captured another just to add salt to the wound.

    Game 2 was Team Slayer on The Rig and CLG beat Allegiance black and blue. CLG's Royal 2 lead the game with 17 kills, just 5 kills away from the entire score of the enemy team.

    By game 3 it was clear that CLG had built up an insane momentum and Allegiance had lost the will to play it out. Game 3 was Strongholds on Plaza and CLG took an 100 score against Allegiance's 15.

    As you may have expected by this point, game 4 saw CLG take the win with Capture The Flag on Fathom 2ith a 2-1 score. Game 4 closed it out and CLG took the win for the entire series.

  • Fallout 4 Automatron DLC Now Available

    The debut DLC for Fallout 4 is now available. Named Automatron, the first DLC comes as part of the $50 season pass but it can also be picked up for $10 as standalone content. The DLC features a new set of quests that put the player against a mysterious character named the Mechanist. Players will be forced to fight against all sorts of aggressive robots and they'll also have the pleasure of taking down Robobrain, a robot boss character.

    As you take down more robots throughout the Automatron quest line, you'll unlock new items that you'll be able to use to build your very own robot. There are apparently dozens of different limbs, armor pieces, paint jobs, voices, weaponry and ability mods to choose from, allowing you to create your very own unique robot companion.

    Hopefully the content in Automatron will last most players throughout the rest of March because the second DLC, which is named Wasteland Workshop, will be available at some point in April. The third DLC will also be available following a month after Wasteland Workshop in May. The third DLC is named Far Harbor, which will apparently include a large new area of the world and will be the biggest amount of land Bethesda has ever added to a game as DLC.

  • New 1.02 Update for The Division

    A brand new update has launched for The Division and it features a range of changes to the game. The new 1.02 update has launched for Xbox One, PS and PlayStation 4 and in this article we'll be delving into some of the changes.

    Most of the changes that affect gameplay have been listed below.

    + Named enemies will now drop better loot in Challenge mode than in Hard mode.
    + Added a cooldown period for the Static Turret stun attack in order to avoid a stunlock in PvP and PvE game modes.
    + Named NPCs will no longer respawn after being killed in the Open World. This will prevent situations where players were able to kill a same named NPC over and over again.
    + Modifications to the weapon talent: Trained.
    + It can now only be rolled on Shotgun, Marksman rifles and Pistols.
    + Its bonus has been reduced from 1%-5% to a constant 0.1%.
    + For the Midas SMGs, Trained Talent has been replaced with Responsive Talent which increases damage when getting closer to the target. This applies to existing weapons as well as newly acquired ones.
    + For all SMGs, LMGs, and Assault Rifles, it will be replaced with another randomly picked weapon talent. This applies to existing weapons as well as newly acquired ones.

    + Fixed a speed run exploit for the Rooftop Comm Relay mission.
    + Fixed an issue where weapons dealt no damage if the reload animation was interrupted by an agent's skill.
    + Fixed an issue where players became stuck in an emote animation if activated via chat while auto running.
    + Fixed a bug where skill power would be increased permanently while using the Death by Proxy talent.
    + Fixed a bug where experience was not being awarded for completing all side-missions in the Midtown East safe house.
    + Fixed instances where the Seeker Mine with Airburst / Multi-mine mod would detonate too soon, miss targets or cause no damage.
    + Fixed a bug where grenades would sometimes not display the blast radius warning before detonating.
    + Fixed an issue where some NPCs in low cover would not react to being shot by the player.
    + Fixed issues where emotes would cause the player model to behave oddly (missing guns, player stuck in emote animation, etc).
    + Fixed a bug where weapon mods and weapon skins would not show up on other players in the game world.
    + Fixed an issue where DPS would not be calculated properly when purchasing a new weapon mod.

  • New Xbox One Update Launched

    A brand new Xbox One update has launched and it brings a number of changes, some of which were seen in the Preview Program that received an update earlier in the month. The update coincides with a Windows 10 Xbox update, both of which have some interesting improvements.

    Firstly, a change has been made to party chat - the limit for players in a chat is now 16. Previously the player count for a party chat was 12. Party Chat originally launched with just 8 player support and it has grown since, mostly because it has been one of the most popularly used features. Xbox One engineer Mike Ybarra says that 64 player party chat may one day be a possibility. We'd hope that with that, we'd have some sort of channel sorting system so that party chat could be used as a voice server like Teamspeak 3 - players would be able to join different channels to avoid overspeaking other players who may be playing a different game. On top of the increased player amount, Xbox One owners will now be able to stream to Twitch and join a party chat. Players will even be able to choose whether to share the voices of other members in the party chat to Twitch or to mute it on the Twitch stream.

    A top request from Xbox One users was to introduce a digital store that includes backwards compatible games and Xbox has now met that request. A new store has been added and games for the Xbox 360 that are compatible on the Xbox One can now be purchased there.

    Major Nelson has also announced a new update to the Xbox Elite controller that adds more thumbstick precision and this is now available in the latest Xbox One update. Major Nelson mentioned that Xbox has "Created a new method to calculate the position of the thumbsticks consistently, enabling thumbstick response that is more in line with what you are expecting."

  • Rocket League Reaches 1 Million Xbox One Players

    Despite being launched on Xbox One far after the release of the PlayStation 4 and the PC versions, the Xbox One edition of Rocket League has already brought in a huge number of players. In fact, recently it was confirmed that the game now has over 1,000,000 players.

    Psyonix, the developers of Rocket League, recently revealed on Twitter that the Xbox One version has now hit 1 million unique players. It'll be interesting to see how many unique copies have sold on the PlayStation 4 and the PC as well, especially in a similar time frame. Numbers for other platforms are probably as high as you'd expect them to be, but with all of the hype surrounding the Xbox One release, we have a feeling that the new version has sold a lot quicker than previous releases.

    The increased sales for Rocket League should hopefully mean two very big things. Firstly, development for Rocket League is going to continue for the foreseeable future, which means new content patches, new cosmetic items, new stadiums and more improvements and optimizations. The second thing is that support for eSports and competitive gaming within Rocket League should be able to grow. This is especially true now that all three current gen platforms support the game.

    Have you played Rocket League yet? Chances are you've at least heard about it from somewhere! We think Rocket League is one of the most unique competitive games released in recent years and we only wish the absolute best for it.
