  • Counter Strike Makes it To TV Via Turner's E-League

    counter strike e-league

Whilst Counter Strike: Global Offensive is a PC-only title, we have some news about the game that should be heard by eSports fans alike. Recently a new TV show started on TBS called E-League. Supported by the same guys who give Shaq airtime, the E-League is perhaps the biggest thing that has happened to Counter Strike eSports yet.

The new show has put some of the biggest teams in the Counter Strike scene onto live television for the first time in years. By doing so, new attention has been brought to the world of eSports and people are finally seeing how big the world of competitive gaming has become.

Whilst Turner has chosen Counter Strike as it's focus game on E-League, it's clear that they are working hard to make something out of the eSports scene and they truly believe that it has a space alongside traditional sports. Whatever eSports games you enjoy to watch or play, the
E-League is big news for your own community because it shows that there's still room for even more growth across the board. It might be a while before we see something like Street Fighter live on air, if at all, but it certainly gives us hope for the future.

Even if you don't play Counter Strike, you may want to tune into the E-League anyway - they're doing an exceptional job at showcasing the games and Counter Strike may be one of the most enjoyable eSports out there for anybody unfamiliar with competitive gaming or the ins and outs of the game itself.

  • Halo 5 Forge Coming to PC

    halo 5 forge pc

Is this real life? Yep, it seems that even though 343 Industries confirmed that Halo 5: Guardians wasn't coming the PC, we just end up getting more and more Halo content on the PC. The latest piece of the Halo PC pie are a set of free Halo 5 Forge tools for Windows 10 owners.

Microsoft has named the piece of software as Forge - Halo 5: Guardians Edition and it will be coming to Windows 10 soon. So far we're not sure whether the tools have been built from the ground up for support on the PC or whether they've mostly been ported for use on the PC but there will be a few changes regardless. Here are some of the changes posted by Microsoft on an Xbox news post.

+ Keyboard & Mouse Support - For the first time ever, Forgers will have the option of using a keyboard & mouse allowing for more precision control than ever before.

+ Increased Resolution - Support for multiple resolutions including 4k.

+ Test and Play with Friends - Enlist the help of Friends to help build, test, and play your Forge creations on Windows 10.

+ Build on Windows 10 and Publish to Xbox One - Experiences built on Windows 10 can be published to and played on Xbox One, opening the doors for countless new experiences to be enjoyed by players all over the world.

It seems as if the most important part of this is the extra precision Forgers will get with mouse and keyboard support. With this, players will be able to make maps a lot quicker which in turn should help boost the quality of maps for all players.

Not only is this free piece of software coming to Windows 10 soon but the Xbox One version of Forge will be getting upgrades soon too.

  • Xbox One Gets Black Ops 3 Eclipse DLC

Black Ops 3 Eclipse DLC Xbox One

The Eclipse DLC for Black Ops 3 that originally landed on PlayStation 4 a month ago has finally made it's way to the Xbox One and the PC. The new Eclipse DLC is the second of a series of content packs for Black Ops 3 and it includes a number of new features and maps for the game.

Whilst the content has already been available on the PlayStation 4 due to an exclusivity deal with Sony, this is the first time players on the Xbox One and the PC will have access to the content. In total, the new Black Ops 3 DLC pack includes four new multiplayer maps as well as a new Zombies campaign.

Out of the four maps, three of them have been created from the ground up whilst the fourth, Verge, has been based upon Bonzai, one of the most popular maps from Call of Duty: World at War.

Verge was previously described as a 're-imagination of the classic Call of Duty: World at War map, Banzai. Verge drops Multiplayer combat into the center of a distant post-apocalyptic future, where two warring factions are entrenched in constant battle. Take control of the key bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and waterfalls as you engage in high-speed action through this medium-sized map.'

If you're interested in the Zombies Origins story then you'll be happy to hear that the latest Zombies installment adds more story content via the new Zetsubou No Shima plot line.

  • Minecraft Adding New PVP Mode

    minecraft battle mode

A new update for Minecraft is expected to hit sometime in June and it should add a number of changes, including a new PVP mode. The versions that will receive the new PVP mode will certainly include the console versions but so far we aren't sure whether the PC or handheld versions will receive the same changes.

The new mode is called Battle and it will pit up to eight players against each other in a pre-generated map. There will be a number of pre-generated maps to play Battle mode on however the resources on each map will be randomized. Players will be given a set time limit where they will be invincible at the start of each Battle match. Players can use this time to collect resources.

Once the invincibility wears off, players are encouraged to fight to the death. Players will keep playing until one player is the last man standing. If you've ever played Minecraft on the PC you may be familiarized with The Hunger Games mode which is essentially the same kind of experience.

Whilst Battle mode is an eight player affair, players will be able to recruit up to three of their friends to play with them in split-screen mode. If you want a huge Battle mode local party then you'll need to hook up another console.

Hopefully Minecraft's new Battle mode will add some more fun for players to delve into. We think the new mode opens up a lot of potential for future Minecraft content too.

  • $10 Season Pass for Lego Star Wars 7 Explained

lego star wars 7 season pass

$10 for a season pass is on the cheap side of things but after Warner Bros. announcement, it's clear that the pass for Lego Star Wars 7 is worth picking up if you're into the game. The image shown above includes all of the information about the season pass if you want a quick look.

Firstly, the season pass will add five new playable characters to the game. These characters will be part of the Jedi Character Pack which will be available as part of the season pass. Apparently the pack will include a variety of members of the Jedi Order as well as a few vehicles. This pack should include Aayla Secura, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Kit Fisto, Luminara Unduli, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Saesee Tiin, Shaak Ti, the full size Jedi Interceptor, and the micro-figure Jedi Interceptor.

The season pass will also include three new level packs which should include details of episode 7 from differing perspectives to what we saw on the big screen. In one mission, for example, we get to play as Kylo Ren during the attack on Maz Kanata's castle.

The DLC packs on their own are worth $3 each and it seems as if there will be a total of five different character packs, all of which will be included within the season pass. Details on the level packs have not been revealed yet but we wouldn't be surprised if these also cost $3 each. It seems as if the level packs also include extra characters.

  • Mass Effect Andromeda Announcement; Game Delayed

    mass effect andromeda

You may have been hoping to see Mass Effect Andromeda release this year but unfortunately Bioware has had to push back the release date. Whilst this delay may come as bad news to some, it is ultimately for the better and it'll ensure that when the gigantic open universe game gets a release it will be more featured packed, more fine tuned and more diverse.

Bioware announced the game delay in a new blog post. Whilst the main announcement in the blog post is about the delay, the blog also talks about the future of Mass Effect Andromeda and it's current stage in development.

Firstly, Mass Effect Andromeda has been delayed to 'early 2017.' Whether we get this in the first quarter or second quarter of 2017 hasn't been mentioned, but we highly expect it to be the first quarter.

Secondly, Bioware goes on to mention some of the things to expect from Andromeda. We have listed the highlights below.

+ More Freedom: One of our biggest ambitions is to give players an unprecedented level of freedom for a Mass Effect experience where you'll go, how you'll get there, and how you'll play.

+ New Uncharted Worlds: We're leaving the Milky Way behind and headed to Andromeda, where we'll meet new allies, confront new enemies, and explore fascinating new worlds.

+ The Next Great Mass Effect Experience: Mass Effect: Andromeda will be the first Mass Effect game for today's consoles and the first built on the Frostbite engine. We're pushing the technology to deliver visuals, story, and gameplay that have never been done in franchise history.

  • Battlefield 1 to Have Plenty of Vehicle Choice

    battlefield 1 vehicles

If you've seen the new Battlefield 1 trailer then you'll know that there are a lot of gamers out there getting excited right about now. Although the trailer is the only official content we have from DICE at this point in time, we do have some information to share from an interview Gamespot had with Lars Gustavsson, DICE's design director.

In the interview, a few questions were asked. Although Gustavsson was vague with his answers and kept a lot of information up his sleeve, there were a few bits and piece worth mentioning. Because of the shift in time zone, pretty much everything will have to be worked from the ground up in terms of weapons and vehicles. As a result, it's easy to worry that the Battlefield dev team might not put as many weapons and vehicles as one may hope.

Fortunately it sounds as if the vehicle choice in Battlefield 1 will be plentiful. In his interview, Gustavsson mentioned that "There's a plenitude of vehicle types." We didn't get much information about what vehicles will be in Battlefield 1 but the interview included questions about battleships, airships, (think zeppelins) armored tanks and more.

It's not confirmed that players will be able to pilot the airships and the battleships but it could be very likely. If not, it sounds as if there could be some kind of gameplay element related to them. We'll be hearing more from DICE about the upcoming Battlefield game very soon so hopefully we'll find out exactly how the battleships and airships will make an impact on gameplay.

  • West Ham United Soccer Team Picks up eSports Player

west ham united fifa 16 esports

In a surprise move, British soccer team West Ham United has picked up an eSports player to add to their player roster. It may be unheard of, but we expect this kind of thing may be happening a lot more in the near future.

The player fittingly has competitive experience in the FIFA franchise and after seeing the player's talent, West Ham United went ahead and brought him under their wing. The player, who is known as Sean 'Dragonn' Allen is now a part of the West Ham family and will even have a West Ham jersey to wear at offline FIFA events. The jersey features the number 50 and his own username. In the recent FIFA 2016 Interactive World Cup, Dragonn came in second place. Despite failing to reach the first place spot, Dragonn was inches away from securing a victory.

After a superbly close 5-5 draw against Mohamad Al-Bacha from Denmark, Dragonn lost on Away goals in the New York finals.

West Ham United aren't the first soccer team to move into the world of eSports. In the past, VFL Wolfsburg has put attention into eSports, as have other teams, including BeÅŸiktaÅŸ from Turkey. West Ham United has been keeping an eye on eSports for a while, according to a statement from the football club, but it's taken until now for them to act and snatch up Sean 'Dragonn' Allen.

Do you think more football clubs will start to pick up FIFA eSports players in the future? This could mean a great deal for sponsorships and for building the FIFA pro scene.

  • Overwatch Goes Big with eSports Twitch Match

    overwatch esports cloud 9

Overwatch may just be the next biggest thing in eSports. Recently an eSports event covering an Overwatch game that featured some familiar names made it's way to the front page of Twitch.

Pulling in over 18,000 viewers at peak, the Overkill tournament had a $5,000 prize pool on the line and it saw competitive teams battle it out in the Overwatch beta. Since then, the beta for Overwatch has ended but it was certainly a spectacular way for Blizzard to end the whole event.

During the 18,000 viewer peak, Cloud 9 and played against each other in a huge, marathon-like best of nine series. In the series, Cloud 9 managed to come out on top with an impressive 5-3 score line. Despite winning two more games than, the match was still a lot closer than you'd have expected and it really showed the eSports potential, both for competitive play and for the viewing experience.

In fact, one map saw Cloud 9 get 99/100 percent for the capture on LiJiang Tower before managed to pull back an incredibly close victory. A lot of the maps featured similarly close scenarios and the pros were working well to use their limited knowledge of the current Overwatch beta meta. In some cases, the pros went against the norm to try out new techniques, showing us that there's a lot of room for creativity in the pro scene. For example, Cloud 9 even chose to pick Bastion on one map, a hero that is considered to be worthless in the current high competitive meta, and it almost got them the win!
