  • Smash Summit 3 Win Goes to Armada

Whilst Smash Summit 3 didn't have as many exciting matchups as we had hoped for, the grand final for the event ended up being quite an enjoyable watch. For me personally, I was happy to see either player win but with Hungrybox recently going fulltime, I was secretly hoping for a Hungrybox win.

To begin with, things were going in Hungrybox's favor. Despite Armada's attempts to play incredibly safe at the beginning of the series, Hungrybox managed to pull out a first game win. Armada, who opted to play Fox against Hungrybox's Jigglypuff in the grand final, managed to take the second game quite convincingly.

The third game saw Armada and Hungrybox fight it out against each other on Dreamland 64. Hungrybox managed to do his best to take this win, giving him a game score of 2 and Armada a game score of 1.

At this point, Armada's safe, passive playstyle helped him to take another victory against Hungrybox on Pokemon Stadium. The final map saw Hungrybox and Armada fight it out on Fountain of Dreams.

Armada once again opted for Fox on the final map and managed to take the match quite convincingly. A lot of players were a little disappointed in the lack of action in the final, but there's no doubt that Armada's playstyle has been well calculated - after all, he's there to win events and he's been winning them all the way throughout 2016 in tremendous fashion.

  • New Infinite Warfare Rosters Flooding In

The Infinite Warfare competitive scene is already heating up - we're getting plenty of organising new teams and players and new rosters are getting started up on the daily. In this article we'll provide an overview of some of the current Infinite Warfare rosters that have recently been announced.

First off, let's start with Rise Nation - this organization has recently poached a few players from Elevate. They now have a lineup that includes Loony, Aqua, Faccento and Felony. The latter three of which originally came from the Elevate org.

NAMELESS has also opted to create a new roster - he has teamed up with Havok, StuDyy and Nagafen - they are currently looking for organization opportunities and we imagine that'll be an offer that gets picked up pretty quickly.

Another team that has recently been formed for the Call of Duty Infinite Warfare team includes ProoF, Nelson, SinfuL and TwiZz.

We have one more team to announce and like the previous two, this team does not yet have an organization to back them. The team in question includes Qwiker, who has recently left HyperGames. Carbines, Colgate and Zerg.

The new infinite Warfare competitive scene is going to be an interesting one. We can't wait for the roster swaps to settle down a little bit and see how well each of the newly formed teams perform against some of the longer standing rosters.

Are you excited to see new Infinite Warfare rosters form? Let us know your opinions - we'd love to hear them!

  • Official Overwatch League Announced

Blizzard has taken a huge step at Blizzcon 2016 and have announced a brand new Overwatch league, which should give a wide range of teams a huge level of opportunity to get paid to play.

The Overwatch league has been considered a brand new competitive scene which should help to keep the competitive nature of the game as healthy as possible. The league has a focus to provide "long-term stability for teams as well as opportunities for players to establish the types of professional careers associated with traditional sports."

The Overwatch league will start in 2017 - A number of current players will be given the chance to get invited to some tests run by Blizzard, and if they pass those tests they'll be given a spot in a team. If they get a spot the players will receive a contract and a minimum salary.

Each of the teams will represent major cities and regions as opposed to sponsors and organizations like they do in traditional eSports. This will follow a similar system to traditional sports. This should give players "the best opportunity to grow and thrive for years to come."

Blizzard has made it clear for players to make a name for themselves in the current competitive scene to have a chance to get invited to their test events. Hopefully Blizzard will announce more information about the upcoming league system soon.

This certainly sounds like great information for any players interested in getting involved in competitive Overwatch.

  • New Infamous Second Son Pro Patch Landed

A new patch for Infamous Second Son has been launched and it makes a number of changes to support the new PS4 Pro console. The new patch also applies to the standalone DLC pack Infamous First Light.

Firstly, the patch for Infamous Second Son is a total of 3.6GB in size and it simply features a texture and frame rate update. The new update now allows PS4 Pro owners to play in HDR and 4K resolution.

The Infamous First Light patch on the other hand is a little smaller, weighing in at 2.5GB and essentially provides the same HDR and 4K resolution support. The new updates for both versions of Infamous don't upscale the original textures, either. The developers have revisited the game to offer brand new 4K resolution textures - the detail and quality on these textures will certainly surpass that of the previous texture quality by a long shot.

According to the developers, the new 4K resolution for Infamous Second Son look absolutely phenomenal. Jason Connel, from Sucker Punch, the developer behind Infamous mentioned that, "The powers look amazing. Delsin's smoke powers and Fetch's neon powers are particularly impressive."

"Watching the original effects now in 4K and HDR, I notice details I didn't even know existed. For example, when Fetch does a ground pound, waves of brilliantly flickering particles erupt in all directions. We even improved photo-mode to let you pause on powers. My favorite is winding up Fetch's ultimate neon bomb and then quickly activating photo mode to pause and observe the thousands of emissive particles bits forming around her."

  • Free Battlefield 1 Map Hitting in December

Whilst there is already a lot of future DLC content up for grabs for Battlefield 1 players, DICE are planning to release a free playable map in December. The new map will not cost players a single penny, and even those that have not purchased the season pass will get access to the map the day it is released.

The new map coming to Battlefield 1 in December is called Giant's Shadow and it will be themed after the Battle of Selle, which took place along the Selle River in France. This particular battle happened in 1918 for 7 days from October 17th to October 25th. The Battle of Selle was the very beginning of the end of World War 1.

On top of announcing the new Battlefield 1 map, DICE released an infographic sharing details about the recent Battlefield 1 betas that happened before the game was released. The infographic shared details about total participating players and player class selection. Out of the 13.2 million players that took part in the beta, 30% of players took the assault class, 28% took the scout class, 21% took the support class and a surprising 10% took the medic class.

During the beta, a total of 28.9 melee kills were made and 62.2 million kills were made from the back of a horse. This compared to just 23.8 million vehicular splatter kills.

Now that the game has released, we're definitely going to see more interesting stats and infographics from DICE based on the full version of Battlefield 1.

  • New Diablo 3 Class Announced

Blizzcon 2016 has been a feature packed event so far - we've received details about World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and now Diablo 3.

Blizzard has confirmed that a brand new class will be coming to Diablo 3. Whilst the class will be new the third game, it's not completely new to the series. The class is called the necromancer and it will be able to summon a large number of creatures to use as a means of defense and attack.

The Necromancer class is something that fans have been asking for since the release of the game in 2012 so it's great to see the class finally make it's way into Diablo 3 in 2016.

The new Diablo 3 Necromancer class will come to all players that own the Reaper of Souls expansion in 2017. If players do not own the expansion they'll be able to purchase it to unlock the class. This is something similar to what Blizzard have done in the past with new classes, so essentially the Necromancer class is coming as a free content update.

The Necromancer will be able to use a lot of abilities similar to the original Necromancer in Diablo 3 - if you miss being able to summon an army of skeletons to help you fight then you're going to absolutely love Diablo 3 in 2017.

Blizzard is planning to release more information about the Necromancer and future Diablo 3 content updates in the near future in an exclusive Diablo 3 panel.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Coming Fall 2017

It seemed as if it was inevitable. After the huge amount of attention the idea for a Red Dead Redemption sequel got, Rockstar has finally gone and released a new trailer for their next game, Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released in Fall 2017, so long as there aren't any delays that may push it back. Rockstar are known to delay their games in cases where everything isn't quite perfect, so Fall 2017 is for now, best seen as an estimation for the release date of the game.

We really don't know anything about Red Dead Redemption 2 yet, besides the fact that it looks beautiful. Unsurprisingly the trailer has showcased an unprecedented level of Rockstar style detail on the wildlife and scenery.

The trailer also showcases a group of seven characters riding horses near the end, which perfectly matches the number shown on the original teaser poster. Whilst this is speculation on our part, it sounds like the seven characters may be at the forefront of the singleplayer portion of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The trailer also has a spine chilling moment where the voice actor for Dutch van der Linde spews out a few lines. Dutch van der Linde simply states, "Listen to me, when the time comes, you gotta run and don't look back. This is over."

Hopefully we'll see our first gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 early in 2017.

  • Smash Summit 3 Player Votes are Coming In

Smash Summit 3 is going to be huge and we're starting to see the invitation list fill up.

The full invitation lineup for Smash Summit 3 may not be filled just year, but it has now been confirmed that both Mafia and S2J will be attending the event. This brings the total confirmed player list to 12.

Mafia had a shot at attending last year's summit but he fell out short and was eliminated from voting. This year will be Mafia's first Smash Summit even so we can expect him to be incredibly pumped for the event.

So far this year Mafia has placed top 2 at the Apex 2016 event and had a top twelve finish at Super Smash Con earlier this year.

On the other side of things we have S2J who has been at Smash Summit before. In fact, with an invitation to Smash Summit 3, he will have attended every single Summit since its beginning. So far S2J has represented himself at a variety of events this year, but his best performances were a top 6 finish at EVO 2016 and a top 8 finish at Pound 2016. Hopefully S2J will now have another shot at getting better results at Smash Summit 3 later this year.

There are still four more spots open for the event, which will make a total of 16 players to attend from November 3 to November 6 in Los Angeles, California. Below the current invitation list for Smash Summit 3 has been posted.

    Adam "Armada" Lindgren
    Jeffery "Axe" Williamson
    Juan "Hungrybox" Debiedma
    William "Leffen" Hjelte
    James "Mafia" Lauerman
    Joseph "Mang0" Marquez
    Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman
    Justin "Plup" McGrath
    Johnny "S2J" Kim
    Zachary "SFAT" Cordoni
    DaJuan "Shroomed" McDaniel
    Weston "Westballz" Dennis

  • Daigo Takes EU Win to Advance to Capcom Cup Finals

Daigo has taken a win against Phenom in the Capcom Pro Tour European Regional finals to land himself a spot in the Capcom Cup Finals.

The European Regional was a delight to watch and we saw a variety of players battle it out, some known, some unknown. However, it was all left down to the grand final of the event, where the winning player would be granted an invitation into the upcoming Capcom Cup Finals.

Daigo unsurprisingly had a great performance throughout the entirety of the European Regional, but so did Phenom, which made for an interesting grand finals match-up. In fact, both players managed to make their way to the Winner's Finals, but Daigo managed to push Phenom into the loser's bracket. Phenom quickly fought it out against Bonchan in the loser's finals in an 3-0 impressive fashion to bring him back into the grand finals.

To begin with, Phenom's quick win in the loser's finals gave him the momentum he needed to take the first match against Daigo in the grand finals. However, things quickly changed from here. Following Phenom's first victory, Daigo managed to hit out a quick consecutive three wins against Phenom.

It wasn't a surprise to see the legendary Daigo take the win at the European Regional finals - we'll be seeing him at the Capcom Cup finals, along with some of the other top tier players in Anaheim on December 3. Make sure to check back here before then for more details on the event.

  • Hungrybox is Now a Full Time Smash Player

It's exciting news for any potential Smash esports players today because Hungrybox has confirmed he has quit his job to focus on Smash full-time.

Whilst it has been easier for esports players in other games to make a living, the Smash scene has not yet been lucrative enough in the past to support most players full time. Hungrybox's jump to full time Smash playing is great news to the scene and shows that prize pools and sponsorships are finally becoming large enough to sustain players.

Having enough money on the line to support players enough for them to be able to play full time will be incredibly important for the health of the Smash Bros scene and we'd hope to see more players follow suit soon.

Despite Hungrybox's insane ability as a smash player, he has always had to put his full time job first. Recently, Hungrybox was forced to choose between Smash Summit 3 and Big House 6 due a lack of remaining holiday time and this was the turning point for him.

Hungrybox mentioned on his Twitch stream that, "There comes a time when you have to choose what makes you happy." Hungrybox continued by asking, "Do I want to have maybe a little more money because I'm working a full time job and can save up that money, or do I want to have experienced everything that I truly want to experience?"

We're glad to see Hungrybox take this bold move in his Smash career. Hopefully it'll benefit him well.
