  • COD WW2 Dev Very Dedicated to eSports

COD WW2 esportsCall of Duty has always had a strong eSports focus - in recent years the developers and publisher responsible for the Call of Duty franchise have worked hard to push out more support for eSports in the series, and this support isn't going to stop with Call of Duty World War 2.

In fact, Sledgehammer Games, the developer in control of COD WW2, has been in contact with professional Call of Duty players to help shape the competitive aspects of World War 2.

Michael Condrey, co-founder of Sledgehammer games, had a few positive things to say about their interaction with pro players and their work on making COD WW2 an eSports friendly title.

When asked about pro players, Micheal Condrey mentioned that "They've been fantastic and excited and in many ways, I think they enjoyed returning to a grounded experience with more strategy without the mechanical element. It plays right into what they've been asking for."

Michael was impressed by the amount of positive comments they received for COD WW2 after the recent Infinite Warfare release. Recently, WW2 was playable at E3 2017, and many top competitive players and COD content creators were invited.

"Apart from having hands on the floor and at our building with influencers and eSports athletes over the last few days has really shown what we expected all along which was a huge appetite for a return to boots on the ground, to have it feel strategic and have it reinforce team play a lot more."

  • Call of Duty WW2 Multiplayer Detailed

call of duty ww2 multiplayerDetails for the multiplayer in the new Call of Duty WW2 have been spilled at this year's E3. We now have a gameplay trailer for the multiplayer aspect of WW2, and a confirmation on the date for the PS4 multiplayer beta.

Firstly, the new multiplayer reveal trailer for Call of Duty WW2 has now gone live. The trailer features a number of noteworthy shots. Some of the environments players can expect to play in are seen. Locations include Normandy in France; the Ardennes Forest in Belgium, and Aachen in Germany.

Some gameplay footage was also shown. Straight off the bat, it's clear that this is a Call of Duty game - but it certainly feels more in-line with the earlier Call of Duty titles. Those that played Call of Duty World at War will feel at home with Call of Duty WW2, that's for sure.

While the game has a more gritty, realistic approach, it'll still have a number of trademark Call of Duty features, including a Zombies mode.

In other news, the Call of Duty WW2 multiplayer beta now has a date. The multiplayer beta will begin on PlayStation 4 on August 25. We're not yet sure how long the beta will last, and we're not sure if there will be an Xbox One or PC beta. • Final Call of Duty Infinite Warfare DLC Lands

call of duty infinite warfare continuum dlcWhile it may not be long before the next Call of Duty game launches, a brand new DLC pack for Infinite Warfare has just released. The new DLC pack includes a number of new multiplayer maps and some other new gameplay content.

The new DLC for Infinite Warfare is called Continuum and it adds four new multiplayer maps and a brand new game mode called Shuffle Zombies. The new DLC expansion is currently only available for the PlayStation 4, but it will push out to Xbox One and PC in around a month's time.

For those interested in the DLC, you'll need to pick it up in the PSN Store for $15.

The four new maps for the new Continuum Infinite Warfare DLC are Turista, Scrap, Archive, and Excess. The official map descriptions have been provided below:

Turista is nestled in the middle of a giant skeleton of an ancient creature. With sniper spots scattered across a majestic, central waterfall, Turista also boasts tight interiors for fans of close-quartered combat and a three-lane design that caters to a variety of play styles.

Scrap is set in an abandoned junkyard on the Moon. Scrap features a combination of extended sightlines and tactical pathways that reward players who engage in both long and short range combat.

Archive features fast, frenetic engagements. It's a post-futurist art gallery where tight engagements contrast with open exterior battlegrounds in this wide three-lane style map.

Perched atop a gilded penthouse in a sprawling future metropolis, Excess is a small, circular map re-imagined from the classic Modern Warfare 2 map, Rust, that retains the intense, fast-paced combat from the original.

  • New Infinite Warfare Weapons and Voice Packs

infinite warfare weapons voice packsInfinite Warfare has received a new update which includes new weapons, new voice packs and more.

Although the Infinite Warfare update cycle may soon be nearing its end, a recent update has been pushed out to PS4, Xbox One, and PC servers. The new update, which is patch 1.12, introduces a number of new features and purchasable items within the Infinite Warfare store menu.

First things first, two new voice packs have been added to the store. The first voice pack is a run-of-the-mill UK Special Forces pack. The second is a little more exciting. The next voice pack features phrases and words of advice from Method Man, an American rapper perhaps best known for his part in the Wu-Tang clan.

Two new weapons have also been added to Infinite Warfare in the latest update. First up is the VPR - this is a full-auto ballistic SMG. It has dual barrels and dual magazines for faster fire rate and reload times.

The second new weapon is the X-Eon - a brand new full auto energy rifle. It has accurate hip fire and built-in detection optics with its default scope.

Three new animated camos have also been added in the latest update. This includes a circuit board style camo, an energetic red light wave camo, and green pulse heartbeat sensor camo.

A number of other tweaks have been released in the latest 1.12 update for Infinite Warfare, including small changes to the infected lunge range and various leaderboard fixes.

  • Call of Duty 2017 Going Back in Time

Call of Duty 2017Over the past few years, the Call of Duty franchise has made plenty of changes thanks to a big transition towards future based combat. Unfortunately for Activision, it hasn't exactly been received that well.

The Call of Duty franchise has been one of the biggest and most successful first person shooter series of all time, but it was clear after Infinite Warfare that the fan appeal had started to wither away.

Due partly to the poor performance of Infinite Warfare and arguably partly due to the success of Battlefield 1, the Call of Duty title planned for this year has been confirmed to be going back to the series roots.

The information comes straight from Activision as they have looked back at and shared their successes and failures in 2016. Whilst Activision has now confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty game will take inspiration from previous games, nothing was said about how far back the publisher would be going.

It was confirmed that the next Call of Duty title will be developed by Sledgehammer games, however. Considering Sledgehammer has already had experience with developing Modern Warfare 3, perhaps the next Call of Duty game will return back to the modern combat setting. Alternatively, Activision may have meant even further back through Call of Duty's roots, all the way back to the original world war games during Call of Duty 1-3.

What are your thoughts on Sledgehammer Games and Activision taking a step back in time with the 2017 Call of Duty title?

  • CWL Global Pro League Stage 1 to start April 20

cwl pro league 2017Looking for information on Call of Duty esports? This is where it all starts.

We haven't heard much in the way of Call of Duty esports news so far this year. Fortunately, an announcement has now been made for the beginning of the CWL Global Pro League in 2017. It has recently been confirmed that stage 1 of the pro league will start on April 20.

The CWL Global Pro League is a weekly LAN league for Call of Duty that will see teams from all over the world battle it out in their local arenas. Just before stage 1, an open event will take place on March 17 until March 19. This will be the CWL Dallas Open and will be the most important event this year for teams to earn the chance to gain points to qualify for the GPL.

"The CWL Dallas Open is the final event where teams and their rosters can earn CWL Pro Points for a chance to qualify to Stage 1 of the CWL Global Pro League, beginning April 20."

"The CWL Global Pro League, taking place live at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio, will include 16 teams worldwide over two stages of the competition, each with a hefty prize pool."

More open events will take place throughout the year and they'll all lead up to the GPL, which will be the biggest opportunity for teams to gain points for one of the limited 16 slots available in the final tournament.

  • LDLC Say Goodbye to COD

ldlc-call-of-duty-team-spartanWhile it may not be a permanent goodbye, seeing LDLC saying their farewells to a game that helped make their name famous is slightly unsettling.

LDLC have always been one of the organizations at the top of Call of Duty, but after their struggles to get hold of a good enough team, it seems like LDLC may be putting their feet up for a while.

Almost a year ago, LDLC picked up Team Spartan, and while their year wasn't completely terrible, the mixed results that the team achieved just didn't quite hit the expectations the LDLC organization had for the newer players.

To begin with, the LDLC team managed to take a win at the South Lan Event. As a result, they bagged themselves a spot at ESWC COD in Paris. The team managed to just scrape by in ESWC to get a spot in Call of Duty XP in LA.

Unfortunately though, Activision has pulled their funding for the LDLC team, and because of a lack of big prize wins and sponsorship deals in 2016, LDLC has had to pull the rug underneath their roster.

Hopefully we'll see more developments from the LDLC organization in the future, but for the time being we won't be seeing LDLC at any future Call of Duty events.

How do you feel about this news? Seeing a big organization like LDLC fail to hold on to enough sponsors to support their players in 2016 certainly isn't a good sign for the Call of Duty competitive scene in 2017. Only time will tell how things will go over the next year.

  • Gfinity Modern Warfare Remastered Invitational is Happening

modern-warfare-invitational-gfinityExciting news for OG Call of Duty fans. Gfinity has announced a $25,000 Modern Warfare Remastered invitational event.

The new tournament has been sponsored by HP Omen, which is a gaming laptop brand. As a result, the tournament will be played on PCs. Teams will have the option to use controllers or a mouse and keyboard. This may be a surprise to some, especially considering the accuracy gap between traditional controllers and a mouse.

The teams to take place in the event have yet to be announced, but we expect four picks from some of the best teams in the world. Whilst a $25,000 prize pool isn't massive, this being the first major cash tournament for Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered, makes it an important one to attend.

Invitational events will feature a number of teams that the event organizers have invited themselves. These events are often designed to gauge viewer interest, so the highest skilled teams are often invited to ensure great gameplay is showcased. If you'd like to see future Modern Warfare Remastered events, including cups that you and your own team could take part in, make sure to tune into the Gfinity invitational when it launches.

Gfinity wrote, "The OMEN Invitational will be held live at the Gfinity Arena on the 3rd of December, and will feature four of the world's most historic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare teams, as they compete for a slice of the $25,000 prize pool."
