  • New Starfire Character DLC for Injustice 2 Released

starfire injustice 2 DLCA brand new character for Injustice 2 has finally made its way into the game. The new character is called Starfire and is based on the DC character of the same name.

Starfire is a character from the Teen Titans universe, so it's interesting to see her make her way into a brutal 3D fighting game.

In Injustice 2, Starfire is grown up and ready to beat any opponents that challenge her.

Starfire is designed to be a character suitable for beginner players. Her move set is very simple when compared to other Injustice 2 characters, which should make it easier for newer players to master her.

Starfire will be available for free to anybody that owns the Injustice 2 Deluxe or Ultimate editions. Alternatively, if you own Fighter Pack 1, you'll also have access to Starfire. If you have neither of the things above, you'll have to purchase Starfire separately.

There are a number of shaders available for Starfire, including one that makes her look like her sister, Blackfire.

Starfire is marked as the third and final fighter for Fighter Pack 1. Soon, Netherrealm will announce all three characters for Fighter Pack 2. According to Netherrealm’s Ed Boon, players will be very excited to see the three characters in Fighter Pack 2, and the last one should have a big 'wow' factor amongst Injustice and DC fans across the globe.

Will you be playing Starfire at all now that she's available to play in Injustice 2?

  • King of Fighters 14 Will Have 50 Characters at Launch

    king of fighters 14

Unlike other recent fighting games, King of Fighters 14 isn't wasting any time with announcing it's character lineup. Well, almost.

SNK Playmore has revealed that King of Fighters 14 will come with 50 characters at launch but the actual character lineup has not yet been revealed. It's likely we will see a large roster including old characters and a small selection of new fighters too. King of Fighters has always been renowned for having a large character roster so this news comes as no surprise.

What is surprising, in a pleasant way, is that SNK Playmore do not plan to split these 50 characters into DLC - all of the 50 initial fighters will be available on day one as part of the base game. Game director Yasuyuki Oda mentioned that there won't be small additions added over time. "All 50 characters will be playable at launch." There will be numerous characters at launch, and we don't plan on adding more bits at a time, so be sure to properly jot that down. It wouldn't be a KoF game with a small number of characters after all."

There is still a chance that SNK Playmore will add more DLC fighters for KoF 14 in the future, but currently they have absolutely no plans in-line for DLC. "DLC will have to wait until we see how the 50 characters do after launch, so it has yet to be decided," Oda mentioned.

  • Predator Announced as Third Mortal Kombat X Character

    predator mortal kombat x

Mortal Kombat X will soon be getting another DLC character added to it's roster and this time round the character will be a special guest star.

If you've been paying attention to the DLC plans for Mortal Kombat X, you may already know that the next planned DLC character for the game will be Predator. This character has been planned to release at some point next month, and like previous DLC characters, is available for free to any players that have purchased the $30 Kombat pack.

Players can also purchase characters separately, or alternatively they can try out the DLC characters for free whenever their corresponding player tower is rotated into the game.

Unfortunately we don't know too much about Predator just yet. A reveal trailer has not yet been released so we have no details about Predator's move set. What we do know is that Ed Boon has revealed one single promotional image of Predator fighting Jax. If you've got a keen eye you may have noticed that the promotional image (shown above) includes a brand new skin for Jax as well.

It looks like Jax will be dressed up as Carl Weathers from the Predator movie as an alternative costume. Hopefully the costume will be released alongside the release of the Predator DLC character.

As soon as we know when the Predator character will be released, we'll let you know. Hopefully NetherRealm has a proper trailer for the character in the works right this second.

  • New SoulCalibur Could be Coming

new soulcaliburWith all of the most recent fighting game releases, it would only be fitting to have a new SoulCalibur game somewhere along the way too. Surprisingly, this might actually happen. The development wing at Bandai Namco responsible for the SoulCalibur series has just posted something on their social media pages, suggesting that a new SoulCalibur game could be coming.

On their Facebook page, the SoulCalibur developers posted a poll that asked fans about their favorite characters in the game franchise. Fans were only allowed one vote and the post stated that it would be used to help "Determine precisely who are the favorite characters of the community." The post then went on to say, "Project Soul is probably preparing something huge... Stay tuned and spread the news!"

Whilst this doesn't directly confirm that a new SoulCalibur game is in the works, they did mention that this had nothing to do SoulCalibur Lost Swords but was designed for the SoulCalibur brand in general. Lost Swords was a free to play game set in the SoulCalibur universe that was released last year. As you can imagine, a lot of fans were a little upset about this release, and everybody is impatiently waiting for the next big real game.

We're all hoping for a SoulCalibur 6 and it could definitely be coming. We may get something else instead, but something new from the Soul team is on it's way. Let's hope Bandai Namco reveals something soon.

  • Release Date for Ultra Street Fighter IV Revealed

ultra street fighter iv ps4You may want to go and check out the PlayStation blog because a new post has been released on there that reveals details about the release date of Ultra Street Fighter IV. We've already seen an Japan arcade release of Tekken 7 and Mortal Kombat X is now available worldwide, so Street Fighter fans are understandably getting hyped up for Ultra Street Fighter IV.

According to the PlayStation blog, Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available in America and Europe on May 26 this year. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 for $24.99 and it will include all of the DLC that has been released in the past.

If you have ever played Street Fighter IV on the PlayStation 3 and noticed that there was a slight input lag, you'll be happy to know that the PS4 release of Ultra Street Fighter IV will be free from the input lag problems seen in previous versions.

Whilst we're not entirely sure how far the developer has gone to improve Ultra Street Fighter IV we do know that the resolution and frame rate has been improved. From what we can tell from the latest screenshots of the game, the character models and textures do seem to be a lot higher quality this time round.

Will you be picking up the new PlayStation 4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV when it lands in a month's time on May 26?

  • Three New Tekken 7 Characters Announced

new tekken 7 charactersAs part of a celebration on the 20th anniversary stream on Nico Nico, three more characters have been confirmed for Tekken 7, and they will be making their way into the game at various points throughout 2015.

Two of the three characters are returning favorites, whilst one is a completely brand new character named Josie Rizal. Not much information has been shared about Josie, although it has been confirmed that her nationality is filipino. The release date for Josie Rizal has not yet been set, and Bandai Namco have simply stated that she will be added to the game "soon."

For those that are aware of Filipino history, you'll know that the name Josie Rizal is way too similar to Jose Rizal for it to be a coincidence. Jose Rizal is considered a national hero in the Philippines and lived in the 1800s.

The other two characters are two favorites that we all expected to see in Tekken 7 a lot sooner. The first is Jin Kazama, and the second is Devil Jin. Whilst Josie does not yet have a release date, Bandai Namco did announce on the live stream that standard Jin will be added to the game on March 31 as the first new character.

One week later on April 7, Devil Jin will also be added to Tekken 7.

I think it's great to see Jin being finally added to Tekken 7, and it's also quite interesting to see Bandai Namco adding a brand new character to the game as well.

  • Dead or Alive 5 Last Round has Almost $100 Worth of DLC

dead or alive 5 last roundWhether or not you're okay with the dozens of dollars worth of DLC content in Evolve generally comes down to how you feel about the whole practice of selling you content after the game has been completed, but it's not just Evolve that features staggering amounts of paid-for content.

In fact, Team Ninja have recently released details on what new downloadable content will be available in their latest remaster for new gen consoles. I'm of course talking about Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, the game that is a remake of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, which is coincidentally a remake of Dead or Alive 5.

I'm sure you can see what I'm getting at here. Even though Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is not going for full retail on either the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, the game does include just under $93 worth of DLC.

Fortunately, practically all of the DLC available is only cosmetic skins and costumes for characters, similarly to a lot of the content players can pay for in Evolve. The $93 price tag for DOA 5: LR is actually for the season pass. If you purchase every piece of DLC in Last Round separately, however, you'll possibly be looking at spending a considerable amount more.

So, before you get mad at Evolve for trying to milk us of our hard earned cash, just remember, there are games out there that offer 79 character costumes for a crazy $93. Honestly, it's all a bit crazy, but let's just be glad that most of it, both in Evolve and Dead or Alive, is all cosmetic and has no impact on the game whatsoever.

  • Tekken 7 Introduces 2-Player "Same Side" Fighting

tekken 7 fightingIn a new announcement, Bandai Namco have revealed that Tekken 7 will have a brand new game mechanic that could help some players who struggle adapting to different sides of the screen.

Within Tekken 7, players will now be able to head into the settings menu and choose which side they would like their character to be displayed on. Once chosen, players will be able to jump into a game, and the camera will either remain stable, or will flip, depending on what side the player chose within the settings menu.

In previous Tekken games, players were forced to play on whichever side of the screen was assigned to them, so this new feature in Tekken 7 should come as a pleasant surprise.

To explain it better - imagine player 1 gets paired up against a player online. Player 1 takes the left side of the screen, whilst player 2 takes the right side. Player 1 may have put the right side as their preference, and as a result, the camera will be flipped to make it appear as if their character is on the side of the screen they like to use the most.

Flipping the camera will mean that directional moves and combos will also be affected. Personally, I think this is a nice option for new players, but veteran Tekken players will most likely prefer to avoid using this feature.

Some may even argue that it’s an important part of the game to be able to adapt to whichever screen side you start on. What are your thoughts on this new Tekken 7 feature?

  • Tekken 7 Screenshots Reveal New Characters

tekken 7 new charactersNew screenshots of Tekken 7 have hit the internet that show off a few aspects of the game, including two characters new to the franchise. The first new character shown in official screens has been named as Claudio. Not many details have been given about Claudio, besides from the fact that he dons a white cloak, and some players have made relations to Maxi from the Soul Calibur series.

Another character in the screens by the name of Katarina has also been revealed, but once again, details on this character have been left out. Both characters can be seen in the image shown above. Along with the two new characters, Tekken 7 will host all previous characters seen in previous games in the franchise.

Whilst Tekken 7 is still under development a few arcades in Japan have the game available for play, and players have reported that the game will come with a few new gameplay mechanics, including Power Crush, a new ability that allows players to take hits from the opponent whilst trying to perform a certain move or combo.

Other than this, no more new information has been shared about Tekken 7, and we are still unsure when the game will be released. I expect the game will be released at some point in the second half of 2015, but I cannot guarantee that, so I'd take my speculation with a grain of salt.

Hopefully we'll learn more about the two new characters closer to the launch of Tekken 7.

  • Dead or Alive 5: Last Round Confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One

dead or alive 5 last round - CopyIt looks like everybody is jumping on the 'port-your-games-to-the-new-gen' band wagon, including Team Ninja, who have confirmed that they plan to bring Dead or Alive 5: Last Round to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, despite it being a game that released two years ago.

Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round will come with a range of improvements, including graphical changes, and most likely a frame rate and resolution increase for the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round will release for the PS3 and Xbox 360 too, however only a digital version will be available for last gen consoles, whilst both a physical and a digital version will be available for the Xbox One and PS4.

Whilst there is no concrete release date for Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round, Team Ninja have mentioned that it will make it's way to the world in Spring 2015 for all four Sony and Microsoft consoles currently in the spotlight.

DOA 5: Last Round will include characters that didn't make it into the original release, including Ryu Hayabusa, perhaps one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. In summary, the full character lineup for Last Round will include Ayane, Bass, Bayman, Brad Wong, Kokoro Hayabusa, Hayate, Kasumi, Rig, Momiji, Leon, Lisa, Tina, Jann Lee, Hitomi, Leifang, Christie, Eliot, Leon, Gen Fu, Zack, Helena, Marie Rose, Phase 4, Nyotengu as well as Sarah Bryant, Akira, Pai and Jacky from the Virtua Fighter series.
