• New Starfire Character DLC for Injustice 2 Released

starfire injustice 2 DLCA brand new character for Injustice 2 has finally made its way into the game. The new character is called Starfire and is based on the DC character of the same name.

Starfire is a character from the Teen Titans universe, so it's interesting to see her make her way into a brutal 3D fighting game.

In Injustice 2, Starfire is grown up and ready to beat any opponents that challenge her.

Starfire is designed to be a character suitable for beginner players. Her move set is very simple when compared to other Injustice 2 characters, which should make it easier for newer players to master her.

Starfire will be available for free to anybody that owns the Injustice 2 Deluxe or Ultimate editions. Alternatively, if you own Fighter Pack 1, you'll also have access to Starfire. If you have neither of the things above, you'll have to purchase Starfire separately.

There are a number of shaders available for Starfire, including one that makes her look like her sister, Blackfire.

Starfire is marked as the third and final fighter for Fighter Pack 1. Soon, Netherrealm will announce all three characters for Fighter Pack 2. According to Netherrealm’s Ed Boon, players will be very excited to see the three characters in Fighter Pack 2, and the last one should have a big 'wow' factor amongst Injustice and DC fans across the globe.

Will you be playing Starfire at all now that she's available to play in Injustice 2?

  • $50,000 Gets Added to Mortal Kombat XL Prize Pool

    mortal kombat evo 2016

Previously it was announced that a Mortal Kombat XL tournament will take place at EVO 2016, but before today the prize pool sat at $60,000. Today, Netherrealm and Warner Bros. have teamed up to offer an additional $50,000 for the prize pool.

Going forward, the EVO 2016 Mortal Kombat XL tournament will now have a $110,000 total prize pool. Neither Netherrealm, EVO or Warner Bros. have announced exactly how the tournament winnings will be split, but the first place winner is definitely going to go home with a considerable chunk of money.

It wasn't long ago that the ESL Pro League Finals paid out big time to SonicFox for taking the winning spot. We can't wait to see how big Mortal Kombat will grow with thanks to the added financial support of the developer and the publisher.

The fighting game community has been lagging behind MOBAs and FPS title when it comes to eSports winnings, but with hundreds of thousands going to Mortal Kombat X alone in 2016 so far, it's clear to see that the gap may be closing slightly.

Not only has the Mortal Kombat XL prize pool increased, but so has the Pokken and Street Fighter V prize pool been upped. Capcom also recently added $50,000 to the total prize pool for EVO 2016 and the Pokemon Company added $10,000 to the Pokken tournament.

There's money to be made everywhere in esports today - will you be watching EVO 2016? If not, will you be trying to make your way up the ranks for a chance at a spot in future events?

  • Predator Announced as Third Mortal Kombat X Character

    predator mortal kombat x

Mortal Kombat X will soon be getting another DLC character added to it's roster and this time round the character will be a special guest star.

If you've been paying attention to the DLC plans for Mortal Kombat X, you may already know that the next planned DLC character for the game will be Predator. This character has been planned to release at some point next month, and like previous DLC characters, is available for free to any players that have purchased the $30 Kombat pack.

Players can also purchase characters separately, or alternatively they can try out the DLC characters for free whenever their corresponding player tower is rotated into the game.

Unfortunately we don't know too much about Predator just yet. A reveal trailer has not yet been released so we have no details about Predator's move set. What we do know is that Ed Boon has revealed one single promotional image of Predator fighting Jax. If you've got a keen eye you may have noticed that the promotional image (shown above) includes a brand new skin for Jax as well.

It looks like Jax will be dressed up as Carl Weathers from the Predator movie as an alternative costume. Hopefully the costume will be released alongside the release of the Predator DLC character.

As soon as we know when the Predator character will be released, we'll let you know. Hopefully NetherRealm has a proper trailer for the character in the works right this second.

  • Mortal Kombat X DLC Characters Will be "Try before you Buy"

mortal kombat x dlcThere has been a bit of commotion on the internet this week because NetherRealm announced a feature of Mortal Kombat X that has two sides of the fighting game's community divided. On one half, those that purchased the premium edition or Kombat pack are frustrated, and on the other half, those that only bought the standard edition of the game are equally as pleased.

The reason for this is because NetherRealm have announced that there will be ways to play the DLC characters for free, without purchasing any DLC at all. As you can imagine, those that have already paid for the DLC are quite mad at NetherRealm for making this decision, but it's important to understand the full picture first.

Whilst characters like Jason Voorhees and The Predator can be played by playing in the special timed challenge towers, you will only be able to play one of the DLC characters when a premiere tower is live in-game. You also cannot play the DLC characters in versus mode or story mode - they will only be available in the premiere tower for the duration of that tower's presence. Eventually the tower will be swapped out with a standard challenge tower or a premiere tower with a different DLC character in.

I think this approach is a great route for NetherRealm to take. Mortal Kombat X is going to release on April 14 for the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the PC. An old gen version for the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be coming later this summer.

  • Quitalities Announced for Mortal Kombat X

mortal kombat x quitalitiesEver been frustrated by a player quitting on you in an online match on Tekken, Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter? I know I have, and it seems quite common for players to disconnect just before you pull in a victory.

Fortunately, NetherRealm have implemented a new finishing move to Mortal Kombat X that should put disconnectors and rage quitters to shame. In Mortal Kombat X, any plays that purposely disconnect from a game will have their heads implode (in-game of course.) and the opposing player's character will stand there, with a slight smirk on his face.

The whole procedure has been called a Quitality, and it will happen every time a player quits in the middle of a fight. The win will go straight to the player who remained in the game, whilst the disconnected player will be given a loss.

Whilst it's not clear, I'm expecting that the Quitality will happen even if a player's internet goes down, or they get disconnected for a reason out of their control. There's no details on whether it will affect players ranking in a different way to a standard loss, but if players want to get seriously competitive in Mortal Kombat X, a Quitality is the last thing a player will want to receive.

Mortal Kombat X will be releasing on April 14 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. A later mobile release for iOS and Android will also follow.
