  • Rumored Playstation 4 Specs Roundup

    PlayStation 4 Specs

With high hopes of Playstation 4 coming out within the next year (best case scenario), we decide to take a look at all info about PS4 made available since April of this year. We shall try our best to summarize all info available on the rumored PS4, codenamed Orbis.

Well first off the bat is the fact that this time around there would be an advanced piracy blocking system. We all knew they were really going to increase the security of next gen systems. Additionally the reuse of games will also be blocked. This would supposedly be achieved via a download from the Playstaion Network that would lock the Blu-Ray to a specific system thus, rendering reuse of Blu-Ray discs impossible.

Okay now let's look at something a bit more cheerful, the specs of this upcoming bad boy. Rumors suggest that the chips in the PS4 would be based on AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU. The A8-3850 is a quad-core 2.9 GHz processor which also has an integrated graphics chip. The Radeon HD 7670 GPU is a DirectX 11 enabled card clocked at 1 GHz and has 1 GB of VRAM.

Based on the fact the HD 7670 is identical to last year's HD 6670, some basic assumptions could be made. The HD 6670 has the capability to render Crysis 2 in high settings at a resolution of 1920 X 1080 (full HD) with frame rates slightly above 30 fps. This chip can also support the HDMI 1.4a output which is required for the rumored 4K resolution output of the PS4.

It is expected that with the use of a lightweight OS and optimized games, the overall performance of the system is going to be much better. The main advantage of Sony is the fact that the A8-3850 has the integrated HD 6550D which would allow them to utilize asymmetrical CrossFire configuration to share the load of graphics processing.

As you can see guys, the rumored PS4 is a verifiable gaming monster. But keep in mind that the exact chipsets might change in the final product. Also even if they use the exact chips mentioned above, considering that they will be custom made for the console we can pretty much be certain that the final specs will vary. Of course any change made will only make the system better.

  • Sony acquires Gaikai Cloud Service

Gaikai Cloud Service on a Sony Console

Sony has confirmed its plans to acquire the cloud gaming service Gaikai for a lump sum of $380 million. Why you wonder? Andrew House, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, shed a bit more light on the matter.

Mr. House mentioned that Sony is currently aiming to create a new cloud service which will allow users to experience a wide variety of content "instantly" on the go from pretty much any internet connected devices; the content would range from HD movies and videos to hard core 3D games.

There were a lot of rumors going about this deal all the way to E3 this year where sources were claiming that Sony was trying to significantly improve its cloud gaming support. Gaikai's service has been quite sought after recently; not so long ago they teamed up with Samsung to allow users to stream games directly on to their Samsung TVs via a built-in app.

What makes the situation a bit weird is the fact that recent reports suggests that Gaikai is planning to sell off the company for a sum of $500 million (a mere $120 million less than what they got from Sony). I guess we have to wait and see if that is true and what would be its consequences.

For now, no specific details regarding how Sony would actually utilize Gaikai's server has been mentioned. David Perry, CEO of Gaikai, had this to say about the matter, Sony is aiming to "harness the power of the interactive cloud and to continue to grow their ecosystem, to empower developers with new capabilities, to dramatically improve the reach of exciting content and to bring breathtaking new experiences to users worldwide."

I guess we should be excited? Although the deal has been confirmed, it is yet to be finalized. Seems there are a few more regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions still left to be tackled. But all we gamers care is about how is it going to make our gaming experience better. Don't make us wait too long to find out Sony!

  • PS4 has been in development since 2010?

PlayStation 4 in Development Since 2010

Last week new info emerged that hints at the fact that the Playstation 4, codenamed ORBIS, has been in development since 2010.

This speculation arose after the discovery of the LinkedIn account of a man named Attila Vass. This guy worked in Playstation for about 14 years. As expected he has worked in a number of major projects including the Playstation 2, Playstation Portable, Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. Now, the interesting part is that in his resume he also mentions he worked with the "Next Playstation".

Considering the fact that this could not be the PS Vita (since that is listed already), there is high chance that this "Next Playstation" could very well be Playstation 4! Now that is quite big news. Sony has been adamant in denying anything and everything regarding PS4 and has repeatedly said that they are not considering the PS4 unless they could guarantee a big leap over the current generation. Well, this info proves otherwise.

On his resume Attila mentioned that he worked on graphics, graphics library, cloud services and security of the "Next Playstation", starting from mid 2010 till April in 2012 when he left Sony. Now if you think back to the fact that Sony just acquired the cloud gaming service Gaikai, it all starts to tie together. Considering all this, we can actually expect the launch of the PS4 very soon. Critics are speculating that we can hope to see it by the Tokyo Game Show or by E3 next year at the latest.

  • PS3 Super Slim

    New PS3 Super Slim Console

It seems that we might be getting another PS3, yes not a PS4 but another model of the current PS3 in the near future. This piece of news was concluded from documents that had been submitted to the Federal Communications Commission by Sony.

The upcoming series has been filed under the tag of CECH-4001x thus making it the 4000 series while the current model is the 3000 series. Although no one has claimed that there is going to be a slimmer model, most of us can already guess that would be the case. Anytime Sony launches another model it basically is just a slimmer version of the original.

It seems these documents contained a series of pictures which pitted the future model against the current. From the direct comparison it was seemingly quite clear that this rumored 4000 series was slimmer than the PS3 Slim and thus, a "super slim" version of the original.

It seems critics are speculating that if this rumored model is actually real, then it will be revealed at Gamescom this year. Considering that the PS3 Slim was also revealed at Gamescom, this speculation might not be that far off mark.

What I am wondering is, would it be just a slimmer (and cheaper?) version of the current PS3 Slim, or is it going to have other changes as well? What do you guys think? Would you consider buying it if it is just a Super Slim PS3?

If you love your current PS3, then stay tuned for Evil announcements regarding PS3 controllers. Evil plans to upgrade the available options currently available for the PS3 to allow for some truly custom controllers.

  • Creators of Journey, ThatGameCompany, Goes Mutli-Platform

    Creators of Journey Go Multi-Platform

As you guys might already know, with the release of Journey, the "three game exclusive" deal between ThatGameCompany and Sony has finally come to an end. ThatGameCompany has since been able to raise a total of $5.5 million in new venture capital funding which will now allow them to release new games independently.

According to Jenova Chen, co-founder of ThatGameCompany, their new partnership with Benchmark Capital will allow them to continue making their trademark emotionally compelling games for players worldwide and across different platforms. So I will not be surprised if we see some amazing games from ThatGameCompany very soon that can be enjoyed by PS3, Xbox360, Wii and maybe even PC players.

In another blog post, Mitch Lasky, General Partner in BenchMark Capital, mentioned that he will be joining the board of directors of ThatGameCompany in order to make sure that they can provide ThatGameCompany with the resources required in order for them stay independent and work free from the pressures of publishers and platforms. Lasky also mentioned that he believes that ThatGameCompany can "bring to games a little of what Pixar films brought to animation; emotional depth, engagement with fully-realized worlds, and a strong sense of authorship."

Journey is currently the fastest selling game on the PSN and it would have been the same on XBLA or anywhere else. Journey scored a solid 9.0 from most game critics and we can only expect better games from ThatGameCompnay from here on considering their amazing track record and the level of improvement seen in successive games, from Flow to Flower to finally Journey.

Another exciting bit of info given by Chen was that we might be hearing about their new project soon enough! I personally can't wait to find out more. Now that they have no more financial burdens or other pressures they can really reach for the stars and achieve amazing things, not that they haven't already. So what do you think gamers - excited?

Prepared to see these kinds of games on the Xbox 360?

  • The Last of Us - Won't Have Co-Op but Will Feature Multiplayer

Info Naughty Dog's New PS3 Game

Naughty Dog revealed a bit more info recently about their new IP, The Last of Us. They mentioned that there would be several ways of going about the game in terms of what you chose to do and when. For example, you can choose to sneak past a group of baddies or eliminate them all while risking your resources.

Naughty Dog also verified that even though players will have such options throughout the game (which will give it a sandboxy feel), the game will not have multiple endings. As such, you can play the game however you like but everyone will get the same ending.

Also, we had all been wondering whether we will get to play co-op since the game contains two main characters but, Naughty Dog confirmed that the game will only support a single player campaign. But even though there won't be any co-op multiplayer, The Last of Us has been confirmed to feature a multiplayer.

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director of the game, confirmed the multiplayer in an interview with Game Examiner and I quote "We are supporting multiplayer with The Last of Us. We're not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented."

Well I guess it won't be like the multiplayer in Uncharted 2 and 3 as I was expecting and only time will tell what it will actually entail.

The game is set to be launched sometime in 2013 and holds a lot of promise. As we get closer to the launch date more info is bound to be revealed and as soon as we find out, you guys will be the first to hear about them.

If you want to be prepared for Naughty Dog's next game you will definitely want to grab a modded controller. Our PS3 Modded controllers are compatible with every major shooter.

  • New Game from Quantic Dream - Beyond: Two Souls

Quantic Dream's new game, Beyond: Two Souls

From the creators of Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream, comes another PS3 exclusive - Beyond: Two Souls. This game is going to be another emotional journey that will take story telling within games to another level.

According to David Cage, Founder of Quantic Dream, Beyond would allow players to actually witness the life of a character. In the game we will get to follow the protagonist, Jodie Holmes, through 15 years of her life. We will get to see her grow, mature and become the woman she is.

The story is quite intriguing and has a lot of promise. Growing up Jodie has always felt a connection with something that doesn’t belong to her world. This entity or spirit, which she calls Aiden, has been with Jodie for long and follows her wherever she goes.

From the E3 reveal trailer we got to see that Jodie is being hunted down by what seems like military forces. The reason behind her prosecution though was not revealed. The gameplay demo made available at E3 revealed that we will get to take control of both Jodie and Aiden. The fact that these two characters exist in different planes and are bound by different rules opens up a variety of gameplay options.

Aiden has the ability to freely move through matter but, it can only move a certain distance away from Jodie. Using Aiden, players can scout around and listen-in on conversations to get an idea of things to come. Aiden possesses a variety of skills as well which it uses to help Jodie. Although like Heavy Rain this game will have some deep moments, it will also have a lot of action.

Aiden has the ability to create a shield around Jodie that can protect her from bullets. He can also possess enemies. Aiden was shown to possess one of the cops and create a distraction allowing Jodie to escape but, the much more interesting use of it was to take over enemy soldiers and make them take each other out! There was one part where Aiden takes over a chopper pilot and makes him fly it straight into the ground! Aiden can also interact with physical objects in order to attack and create barricades to help protect Jodie.

Fans of Heavy Rain will instantly recognize the control mechanics when controlling Jodie although, controlling Aiden would require a set of different controls. But, the real treat here is that just like Heavy Rain, there are no mistakes in Beyond. You will not get "Game Over" screen when you don't do certain things. For example, during her run from the cops several things could have happened; Jodie could have gotten away successfully at different points, or she could have even been captured. Every action you take will lead you to a certain path and thus, every player will potentially get to see a different story unfold in front of them.

This game is definitely going to be a unique experience that hopefully everyone will get to enjoy. We will keep you posted as more news arrives about Beyond, but till then check out the reveal video and game demo. There aren't any proper videos of the demo but trust me and watch it till the end.
