  • Could There Be a Killer Instinct Mortal Kombat Crossover?

    Mortal Kombat Killer Instinct

If you try to pair fighting games, Tekken and Street Fighter go quite well together, and this has lead to crossovers in the past. For Mortal Kombat, the best pairing would definitely have to be Killer Instinct. Both games offer a slightly more brutal approach to fighting, and according to Ed Boon, the idea of a Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat crossover would be a good idea.

On Twitter, Ed Boon mentioned 'I loves me some KI but a crossover would have to be Xbox exclusive.'

Funnily enough, Phil Spencer later tweeted in reply to state that he 'loves' the idea too. Well, right there we have the two men that could make a real crossover happen, and they both agree on the idea.

Whether or not this was a little marketing ploy by both Netherrealm and Xbox is hard to say, but we wouldn't be surprised if a Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat crossover title was now in the works. Because Killer Instinct is Xbox exclusive, the crossover would also have to be Xbox exclusive, which is a bit of a shame because Mortal Kombat has always been available on multiple platforms.

With that being said, with Xbox's recent adoption of Windows 10, it's likely that a future crossover would also be available on Windows 10 PCs. Unfortunately we doubt we'd ever see the game reach PlayStation and that's if it ever did come to light at all anyway.

  • Rocket League for Xbox One Getting Exclusive Content

    rocket league xbox one

Soon Rocket League will finally be coming to the Xbox One. After being available for PlayStation 4 and the PC since it's release, Xbox One players have not had the chance to play Rocket League. However, Rocket League will be launching on Xbox One in February and it won't just be the exact same content as the other versions.

When the Xbox One version of Rocket League lands in February, exclusive content will be added. The exclusive content will only be cosmetic, but it can be considered a bit of an extra bonus for loyal Xbox One players. The cosmetic items have all been based on the Xbox One exclusive, Sunset Overdrive.

In Rocket League, players can customize their vehicles with a variety of attachments. They can also change their rocket fuel color and make a number of other adjustments. A lot of the cosmetic items already available in the PS4 and PC versions of Rocket League are based around popular video games or concepts so having Sunset Overdrive content will be a welcome addition. Perhaps the coolest Sunset Overdrive cosmetic item for Rocket League will be the Overcharge Rocket Booster. On top of the awesome appearance, when the booster is activated, you can hear the firing mechanism from the Ahab gun in Sunset.

The Sunset Overdrive cosmetic items will be joined alongside two new exclusive Xbox One vehicles based upon Gears of War and Halo. The vehicles are called the Armadillo and the Hogsticker.

  • Gears of War 4 Pushed to Fall 2016

    gears of war 4

It has become quite common for developers to push back the release date of games and rightfully so. With a delayed release, developers are given a better chance to fine tune a game before it launches. Gears of War 4 has not had much shown off to the world so it would come as no surprise if the game had to be delayed.

What is surprising though is that Gears of War 4 has just been pushed forward. This means that the game will be available earlier than previously anticipated. In the past, Gears of War 4 was set for release in the 2016 Holidays but it has now been pushed forward to Fall 2016.

Whilst this jump in time isn't that significant, it should mean that gamers will be able to purchase the upcoming Gears of War title before the inevitable holiday rush for other new releases that happens each year. Fortunately we will be getting a glimpse of Gears of War 4 before Fall 2016. In Spring, a beta for Gears of War 4 will be available online.

Whilst there is no guaranteed access for Gears of War 4's beta, a random selection of 1 million Gears of War: Ultimate Edition owners will get to play the beta first. There were no details on whether other players will be able to play beyond this original 1 million but with under 2 million sales, it's likely that over half of the Ultimate Edition population will be able to play the Gears of War 4 beta.

  • Halo 5 Spartan Companies Has Opened

    [halo 5 spartan companies]

Halo 5: Guardians will be getting a new clan system upon launch and players can already create their own clans and add their friends. The new clan system in Halo 5 is called Spartan Companies and each company can include up to 100 players.

As well as being an opportunity for players to create a social hub for communities and friends within Halo 5, Spartan Companies can be used to bring new players together. If you visit the Spartan Companies page you will find a list of all of the clans already created and it's possible to request invitations into these companies.

A player can only be in one company at once so players will have to remain loyal to their groups. As an added incentive to try out the Spartan Companies system, when a player joins a company for the first time, they will be rewarded a REQ pack with a guaranteed cosmetic item inside.

These REQ packs can of course not be used till Halo 5 is actually available and players can only gain 1 REQ pack from Spartan Companies. In other words, you can't quit a company and join another to collect another REQ pack.

In other news, 343 Industries revealed that Halo 5: Guardians will come with a day one patch which will take up 9GB of hard drive space. The base digital game will also take up 46GB and preloading has been available since late last week.

  • Infection Should Come to Master Chief Collection

    master chief collection infection

Infection is a game mode in the Halo franchise that has been around since Halo 2. Since then it's gone through various changes and in the latest version of Halo, infected players now appear as the flood.

Whilst infection has been in practically every version of Halo, the game mode has not yet been added to the Master Chief Collection. However, if the latest news from 343 Industries is anything to go by then the game mode should be coming to MCC soon as well.

In the latest weekly blog post on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries detailed their upcoming plans for the Master Chief Collection, whilst hinting at an upcoming Infection update.

"The playlist team continues to work on future updates, and it's quite likely that we'll be talking more about things like Infection in the coming weeks," 343 Industries stated in their blog post. For those unfamiliar with the infection game type in Halo - it works similarly to the standard FPS 'zombies' or 'infection' mode that has been in first person shooters for years.

The majority of players start as clean, non-infected participants and a small selection of players are randomly chosen to be the infected participants at the start of each round. The infected players must attempt to 'infect' other players by killing them. The infected have infinite lives, but non-infected players only have life before they're moved over to the infected team.

In the Halo version of Infection, the last living player gets extra bonuses such as an overshield to help them survive the oncoming infected hordes.

  • Halo 5 Multiplayer Microtransactions Explained

    Halo 5 Multiplayer

Recently 343 Industries revealed that there will be special REQ packs in Halo 5: Guardians that will contain a random combination of weapons and cosmetic items inside. Players can earn REQ points from playing Arena and Warzone games and can then purchase REQ packs with the points they earn.

Alternatively, players can level up their Spartan Rank and as a reward they will be given a REQ pack. Finally, 343 Industries has announced that players will be able to purchase more REQ packs with their own real world money, and as you can imagine this has caused quite a commotion in the Halo community.

As a result of the chaos this has caused, 343 Industries has spoken out to explain the REQ pack microtransactions and has made it clear that they are certainly not pay to win. Whilst REQ packs do include some weapons or other items, these can only be used in the Warzone game mode, which offers a completely different experience to the classic Halo multiplayer we're familiar with.

That style of multiplayer, the classic Halo we all know and love, will be found in Arena mode, and the only thing from REQ packs that can be used in Arena mode are cosmetic items, such as player armor, weapon skins and assassination animations.

343 Industries head Josh Holmes talked further about the REQ packs. "While players will earn REQ Packs across both Arena and Warzone, only cosmetic items can be used in our Arena experience. This is to ensure that all players start with the same weapons and abilities as part of our vision for the balanced, competitive play in Arena multiplayer."

"In Warzone, our new massive-scale multiplayer experience, we wanted to give fans even more variety and choice in how they play. Within Warzone, you'll have the ability to deploy a multitude of weapons and vehicles from your inventory of REQs throughout a match.

"These requisitions are governed and balanced by Warzone's in-match REQ Level and Energy systems, which are driven by player and team performance within the mode."

  • 20 More Cars Given to Forza 5 Car Pass Holders

20 more cars forzaI have good news to anybody who's already purchased the Forza 5 Car Pass - Turn 10 and Microsoft have decided to be generous and include two more upcoming DLC car packs into the pass.

This means if you already purchased the Car Pass for Forza 5, you'll be able to get access to the two future DLC packs for free, as well as the previous DLC car packs previously bundled with the Forza 5 Car Pass.

So far, Microsoft and Turn 10 have been releasing car packs every month since Forza 5's launch, but previously they had plans to disclude cars that were released after May, 2014.

These new changes will mean players will get access to June's car pack, as well as July's pack for absolutely free, so long as they have ownership of the Forza 5 Car Pack.

Both the July pack and the June car pack will come with 10 new cars, adding an extra 20 cars to the game via add-on DLC, which totals up to 90 add-on cars since Forza 5's release.

When Forza 5 first came out, any purchased cars had to be unlocked and purchased in-game before they could be driven, but Turn 10 made changes to give players access to the cars for free as soon as they download and install the DLC packs.

It's great to see that Turn 10 and Microsoft are extending the Car Pass for another two months, but I can't help but wonder if they had plans to do this in the first place. Either way, for all you Car Pass owners out there, you've got 20 new free cars to look forward to.

  • Remastered Halo Series, The Master Chief Collection Coming to Xbox One

    the master chief collection

Whilst 343 Industries are still working on the next Halo game for the Xbox One, they have also been working on something completely unexpected that many fans of the series may be looking forward to. This something has been named Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and it will be a bundle of games that features all four previous Halo titles that follow the story of the Master Chief.

This includes Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4. Games such as Halo ODST, and Halo Reach will not be included in the bundle. According to rumors, all four games will also be 'remastered,' probably in a similar fashion to how Halo: Combat Evolved was remastered in the recent Halo anniversary release for the Xbox 360.

So far it's unclear how the multiplayer will work for this bundle, but it is expected that the Master Chief Collection will come with some kind of online multiplayer matchmaking. It's quite a big project to port all four games into one collection, and so far we aren't sure whether all four games will be available in one single experience, or whether they will be separate standalone titles.

343 Industries also announced that Halo 5: Guardians will be released in 2015, however the Master Chief Collection should be released some time this year for the Xbox One. We'll probably hear more about 343’s exact plans later in June at Microsoft's E3 press conference, which really isn't all that far away now.

  • Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Reveal Planned for E3 2014

sunset overdrive e3 2014Hopefully we'll get a bunch of great new content to gawk at this year at E3, and although we'll be seeing a lot of new games and IPs, we may also see more about some of the stuff we saw last year.

One such thing is Sunset Overdrive - a game that was revealed last year, and has still not come to a final release. The title offered players a bright and wacky world to explore, and it was certainly one of the most creative games we've heard of in a while.

So far though, we really haven't heard much after the first E3 reveal in 2013, and since then, Insomniac Games, the development studio behind the title has kept pretty quiet. Finally though, they are ready to speak, and we may end up hearing and seeing a lot about Sunset Overdrive before or on E3 this year.

It has been revealed that despite the E3 trailer only showing multiplayer content, Sunset Overdrive will feature a single player campaign experience, and whilst there has been a lot of good content prepared for E3, there will also hopefully be some pre-E3 details ready to revealed very soon.

I personally cannot wait to hear a bit more about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive title, and hopefully it won't be too long before Sunset Overdrive is ready for release.

We'll keep you updated on any new information about Sunset Overdrive as Insomniac Games reveals it over the next two months.
