This legacy custom Xbox 360 controller is one of Evil Controllers' most ambitious early engineering projects, transforming the traditional controller layout into a completely analog control experience unlike anything else available at the time.
Instead of using conventional face buttons and a directional pad, the ABXY button cluster and D-pad were replaced entirely with analog thumbsticks. This resulted in a unique four-thumbstick controller that allowed every primary face input to be activated using analog movement rather than standard button presses.
Creating this design required extensive custom engineering. The original controller faceplate was precisely modified using laser cutting to remove both the ABXY button area and the directional pad. Custom analog thumbsticks were then mounted into these openings and permanently bonded to the controller housing using a specialized silicone material.
Once the structural modifications were complete, the controller was carefully sanded, refinished, and painted before receiving a custom Red Tiger Stripe hydrographic finish. The final product combined advanced engineering with a distinctive appearance that reflected the uniqueness of the controller itself.
The fully analog front layout allowed players to execute rapid inputs while introducing an entirely different control experience compared to traditional Xbox controllers. The result was a highly experimental design that explored new possibilities for controller interaction and customization.
Although this controller remains a one-of-a-kind legacy build, it represents an important milestone in the evolution of custom controller engineering. Projects like this helped inspire many of the innovative accessibility and customization techniques that Evil Controllers continues to develop today.
