Nintendo Unveils Switch OLED Console

This week Nintendo announced the upcoming release of a new Nintendo Switch console, which will bring an OLED screen on the tablet along with a larger screen and larger internal storage.

The move comes after more than a year of speculation that Nintendo would be releasing a new console, although many were anticipating 4K gaming capability. This new model will feature 64GB of internal storage and will feature a 7-inch OLED display on the tablet portion of the system.

The console will be launching on October 8th and will come in at a hefty $349.99. By comparison, this is $50 less than the disc-less version of the PlayStation 5 and is $49.99 more than the Xbox Series S, which has the ability to play some limited 4K games.

Still, Nintendo was keen to tout the upgrade, with Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser nothing: “The new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) is a great option for players who want to experience the new vibrant screen when playing in handheld and tabletop mode. With the addition of this new model to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, people have an additional choice of a system that best fits the gaming experience they desire – whether it’s Nintendo Switch (OLED model), Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo Switch Lite.”

Nintendo recently shared some of their upcoming games for the console during the E3 conference, showcasing Metroid Dread, WarioWare: Get It Together!, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and others.

Will this new iteration of Nintendo’s hit console be popular among players, or will those who’ve already forked in money for the system sit on their wallets as they wait for a more substantial upgrade? Only time will tell…
