A Celebration of Gaming Excellence: Summer Game Fest Short Recap

Just when fans were missing E3, the Summer Game Fest came as a welcome event. Held on the 8th of June in Los Angeles, the event highlighted many promising and exciting titles that will grace the consoles and platforms of players worldwide in the year ahead. There was a lot to showcase this year, and we will discuss some of the key attractions in this article.

What is Summer Game Fest?

Summer Game Fest is a live event that gives gaming fans a glimpse into video games that are about to be released in the near future. Not only does the event announce new video games, but also reveals their teasers, first looks, trailers, and much more. If you’re lucky, you may also get to see the extended gameplay of certain popular or eagerly anticipated titles.

Summer Game Fest is hosted by video game journalist Geoff Keighley. This year, the third installment of the event was held on the 9th of June, and it was streamed at 12PM PT / 3PM ET / 8PM BST / 9PM CET.

Was Nintendo a Part of Summer Game Fest?

The likelihood of Nintendo attending Summer Game Fest was already quite low in the days leading up to Summer Game Fest. Nintendo is generally known for reserving its biggest announcements for its own displays. It’s not surprising that the publisher isn't mentioned as one of Keighley's 40+ partners. Yet, Pikmin 4 is scheduled for release in July. There is a possibility that this future Switch title will show up during Summer Game Fest.

The Pokémon Company also has its own digital events to unveil such information. It is interesting because fans want to see more of the Pokémon Scarlet. Violet DLC that was first teased for Pokémon Day back in February.

What Can You Expect at Summer Game Fest?

Like its previous installments, Summer Game Fest was filled with a lot of game trailers, a few debuts, and quick developer interviews. Particularly in light of the Elden Ring incident at the Game Awards last year, there was a lot more security in the area around the stage as well. The first gameplay for the upcoming brawler Mortal Kombat 1 was featured at the event, as well as Alan Wake 2.
