Metal Gear solid V

When we saw the mysterious reveal for 'The Phantom Pain' at the VGAs, many Metal Gear fans jumped to the conclusion that the reveal was for in fact a new Metal Gear game.

News from Konami about this was unapparent until finally at GDC Kojima revealed the truth, and unsurprisingly the fans were right. In fact, Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes came together to make Metal Gear solid V, and Kojima spilt all the beans as to why he didn't just make Metal Gear Solid V more obvious earlier in an interview with Game Trailers.

"There are several reasons for this. One is that I think core fans, myself included in this, wanted to do something really interesting in the social space. You know I think it's been kind-of dull lately and we wanted to do something to energize the community," he explained. "The second reason for doing this is we wanted to evaluate the FOX Engine. So we wanted to put the game out without revealing that it was Metal Gear Solid and just see how well it would do just based on the visuals of the FOX Engine."

In the end, Kojima also revealed that the whole trailer, including the strange 'Moby Dick Studios' was a little fun inside joke that Kojima wanted to play along with his fans, and many did play along.

"We knew from the beginning that it wouldn't be a secret - we wanted fans to realize it. It was kind-of service to the fans saying, 'Hey, here's the inside joke. We know that you know what it is, but just play along with it.' We're happy that fans did realize what it was and did play along with it."

The new Metal Gear will have a new voice actor for Snake and Big Boss, and although Kojima hasn't given a name, he says that it's almost a reboot in the series, and he wants to reflect this in the voice of the protagonist.
