no battlefront space battlesNo space battles. Star Wars Battlefront with no space battles. I found myself saying this over and over when I first heard it, but as the idea sank in, I've become more accepting of the idea. I'm not entirely convinced Battlefront by DICE will be a great game, but I'm ready to see what they make of it.

According to DICE, there were some interesting design choices made that decided the fate of space battles in Battlefront. DICE's Patrick Bach revealed the following statement in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK.

"We want players to stay in the same environment - we don't want players to fly off and do something over *here.* It's about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry."

The one part about this sentence that doesn't seem to make sense to me is "It's about the Battlefront experience." DICE seem to be doing a lot to the franchise to take it away from the original Battlefront experience, and by removing space battles, this takes DICE's reimagination of the game even further from the Battlefront we've come to know and love.

I doubt Battlefront will inherently be a bad game, but DICE really have to be careful with how they treat the IP. Let's hope that Battlefront turns out to be the game we've all dreamt of when it releases in April next year. Hopefully we'll see a bit more of Battlefront, including some gameplay, at E3 later this year.
