No New Next Generation Xbox Unveilings in 2012 Says Microsoft

The gaming community will be disappointed to find out that Microsoft has no plan to release a new console anytime soon, according to a statement from Microsoft and this article on Mashable.

With the 2012 E3 being less than a few months away, many hoped Microsoft would unveil some new hardware, like they have done in the past, and it has been a long time since the XBox 360 was introduced at E3 in 2005. A spokesman for the company expressed the following:

“While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.

Microsoft said they plan to focus on new high profile games for the 360, such as Halo 4 and others. They also are working around with the Kinect and still believes the console has a lot of life to give. It is a safe bet as the Xbox 360 outsold all other consoles, DVD players and home theater systems worldwide. In addition, the Xbox 360 has actually enjoyed the longest lifespan of all video game consoles currently on the market, as its predecessor was on shelves for around four years being overtaken by the Xbox 360, so Microsoft is planning to get the most out of its console before moving on.
