PS4 System Update 5.0 Launched

A brand new system update for the PlayStation 4 has been released. PS4 owners can download and install the new 5.0 system update now.

While moving to 5.0 sounds like quite a big jump, there aren't any significant changes in this latest system update. Unlike previous big OS updates for the PS4, the 5.0 system update puts a focus on backend fixes.

The visual changes are very minor, but we'll discuss what has changed below.

The biggest feature of the PS4 5.0 system update is the support for Twitch streaming up to 1080p resolution for those with a PS4 Pro. If you own a PS4 Pro, you'll be able to stream your game directly to Twitch at 60 frames per second and in 1080p resolution. You are now able to follow users in PS4's What's New feed. Previously, it was only possible to follow verified users from this feed.

A couple of changes have also been made to the notifications system on the PS4 5.0 system update. Starting in 5.0, PS4 owners can now prevent notification pop-ups from appearing during video playback. People will now also be able to leave a party and check notifications from within the PS4 Quick Menu.

Sony has also added reworked parental controls. PS4 owners can now create a 'family' account and have different labels for that account. Labels include parent/guardian and child. Each label can have its own set of permissions.

What are your thoughts on this system update? It's not very exciting, but the few changes may prove useful for some PS4 owners.
