DualShock 5 Patent Leaks

Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is going to be released within the next year, and a leak of the company’s DualShock 5 patent has come out, showing a beefier version of the controller that’s proved so popular this generation.

The controller sketch shows a bit of a bulkier shell design to the controller, with the included speaker and touchpad from this gen making the jump over. The button layout looks to be identical to the DualShock 4, including having the analog thumbsticks directly across from each other, rather than having them offset as we see in the Xbox controller.

A nice new feature will be USB-C charging, which will be built into the new port. Sony has already shared that the controller’s L2 and R2 buttons will have adaptive triggers, which will let developers change the resistance needed to trigger action. Haptic feedback will also be built into the controller, providing more precise rumble for players to feel.

The PlayStation 5 console is set to be released sometime during the Holiday 2020 period. It’s been revealed that Sony may be offering SSD cartridges to allow for players to upgrade hard drive space while retaining the nearly instant loading times that are being flouted.

Needless to say, we’re jacked for the console’s launch, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the controller so we can start doing custom DualShock 5 mods.
