Halo 4 Forge Mode

Forge mode is making a proper comeback in Halo 4 with modifications that would allow players not only to make detailed maps but make them with ease. Recently 343 Industries have come out and claimed that this time the map editing in the new Forge mode will be powerful enough to allow players to create whatever they can imagine.

Jessica Shea, 343 Industries community manager, had quite a bit to say about the Forge mode on the Halo Waypoint Bulletin.

"There will be some aesthetic variety we'll talk about later - as well as the obvious inclusion of aesthetics and Forgeable objects from specific maps [although] most objects will be UNSC themed." So depending on the content of the environment we will be able to use either UNSC or Forerunner objects.

Shea went on to say "The environments will be large enough to accommodate just about any design you can think of, from a Lockout remake to a sprawling racetrack. There will be rolling hills, flat, sterile spaces, big, flat indoor areas and everything in between. The difference is that we'll use more than one environment - an aesthetic - rather than a giant contiguous space like Forge World."

"There will also be HUGE FLAT JUMBO Coliseum 'walls' that you can instantly place as enormous floor tiles (or walls). All the spaces are being designed with flexibility and performance in mind. The inclusion of a new lighting engine and some unique palettes will make things look more varied and connected. Some simple examples - you can make Lockout and The Pit with relative ease and plenty of room. If you want to do something giant and meandering, you'll have to incorporate some of the environments existing features (hills, cliffs etc)."

There was more info that stated that the Forge-made maps and Developer-made maps will be kept separate - initially. So basically they won't be launching alongside the Halo 4's 10 unique maps. "We won't be putting Forge creations in the 'main' matchmaking areas initially. Certainly Forged variants may go in (referring to object placements and rules) eventually, but we're still discussing how to promote and enable Forge creations in a way that maintains a separation of that kind of content from the main mix," Shea said.

Forge mode in Halo 4 is really turning out to be something. Not only will it let you test the limits of your imagination but most probably lengthen the lifespan of the game significantly. With systems such as dynamic lighting and simplified creation methods (object duplication, magnetic attachment), this version is definitely the best in the history the franchise.

Just like the new Forge Mode our controller creator gives you a lot of flexibility when designing your modded controller. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.
