Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica to be re-released in High Definition.

A little while ago, Kotaku reported the first screen captured images of a Biohazard (Resident Evil) revival in HD and that was all we heard about the re-release of the popular action-horror game until today.

Seen on Kotaku,a trailer was released for Biohazard: Revival Selection. While it was for a Japanese release, knowing Capcom and their knowledge of the west's love for horror action zombie-populated video games, it's likely they're going to released to North American and European audiences.

While the trailer is stunning, I must ask one thing, why?

I know it's great that two of Resident Evil's best known games are being remade in high definition graphics but why not make a new Resident Evil game altogether? I loved Code Veronica and I really loved Resident Evil 4 but hearing news of a high definition remake kind of made my eye twitch, specifically for RE:4.

Code Veronica I can fully understand...if it's a budget title and not priced at full retail price. We haven't heard much from that title in a long time and it was shrouded in shadow of Resident Evil 4, which did revolutionize the action-horror genre. I liked that game when I played it on my Playstation 2 back in college.

As for Resident Evil 4....that's a completely different story. You know the phrase "milking the cash cow"? Well think of Resident Evil 4 as the cash cow that is now dry as a bone. The game has been re-released and ported so many times it makes Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time blush. It's been released on: Nintendo Gamecube, Sony Playstation 2, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Wii, various models of Japanese mobile phones, the Apple iPhone, Zeebo, Apple iPad, and soon Xbox 360 & Playstation 3. I know it's going to have high definition graphics, but I think me and the general gaming public have seen this game one too many times.

I love you Capcom, I really do. But listen to the general gaming public and make a new Resident Evil title. Resident Evil 5 was one step forward, but this re-release is almost like two steps back.
