Rise of the Tomb Raider Endurance

A brand new game mode has been added to Rise of the Tomb Raider and it can be purchased as add-on DLC for the game.

The new game mode is called Endurance and it adds some interesting survival features into the world of Tomb Raider. By adding the game parameters of Endurance mode into a playthrough, a player can experience a drastically different game when compared to the vanilla version of Rise of the Tomb Raider.

In Endurance mode, the survival aspects are based around food and warmth. Just like in real life, Lara Croft must eat regularly in Rise of the Tomb Raider's new Endurance mode to stay alive. Players can hunt for wildlife in the day, but the increased day/night cycle speed means that you'll spending a lot more time in the cold dark night.

When temperatures drop late at night, players will also need to provide warmth for Lara Croft to ensure that she does not freeze to death. One of the biggest aspects for keeping Lara warm involves collecting fuel for fire.

Finally, necessary weapons that may be given easily to players in the standard version of Rise of the Tomb Raider must be crafted in Endurance mode from materials found in the game environment.

Crystal Dynamics wrote a blog post about the new Endurance update, stating that "Fire takes fuel, cold kills the unprepared, food restores health, but everything must be caught, collected, or crafted. You start with nothing and must find everything."

The new Endurance mode is part of the Rise of the Tomb Raider season pass but it can also be purchased for $10 as separate standalone DLC.
