Smite $1 million tournament

The Smite World Championships took place last week in Atlanta and they have now come to a close. Teams from around the world have competed and only the top teams have managed to walk away with a part of the prize pool.

Ten of the best teams in the world participated in the Smite World Championship but the tournament ended with Enemy and Epsilon Esports going at each other for a huge $500 million first place prize. Epsilon Esports managed to win out with an amazing 3-0 against Cloud 9 in a best of five game format.

Enemy didn't go home empty handed though - the second place team was awarded $230,000 and third and fourth place teams Cloud 9 and Paradigm earned $75,000 each. The remaining cash from the $1 million prize pool went to the other six teams.

Whilst the Smite World Championship brought in a large viewer base, the prize pool was only for the PC version of Smite. The Xbox One Smite Invitational also took place in the same week but this prize pool only consisted of $150,000.

For those that are unaware, Smite is a MOBA game but unlike League of Legends or Dota 2, gameplay focuses on third person PvE and PVP combat as opposed to a top down camera angle that is more similar to real time strategy titles.

Over the course of 2015, Hi-Rez, the development team for Smite, allocated a total of $2.5 million to different tournaments. We can't wait to see how the 2016 competitive season goes for Smite.
