The Best Games of 2019

2019 has been a great year for games, as it seems like everyone has gotten something that they enjoy, no matter the genre. At Evil Controllers, we play a LOT of games, and we’ve cobbled together a list of what we feel are the best games of the year, and why.

Here we go:

Resident Evil 2 Remake- I’m a huge fan of the original Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation, but I think I love the new game even more. It’s simply stunning graphically, and the gameplay is less stiff, bringing a sense of flow that just wasn’t there in the original. Cobbling in the great story with thrilling frights make this an absolute must-play.

Luigi’s Mansion 3- It’s been a while since we’ve seen the portly plumber’s brother in a haunted mansion style game, but Nintendo has knocked it out of the park here. The game is available for the Nintendo Switch and is oozing with charm. Hunting ghosts in the big hotel is addictive, funny, and a bit of a challenge. I love this game and can’t wait for a new installment.

Tetris 99- Speaking of Switch games, Tetris 99 flew under the radar for a lot of people, but stands out as one of the year’s best. Launching as a free-to-play game, Tetris 99 is a battle royale affair, where your goal is to eliminate the other 98 players by clearing Tetris lines. This game is so much fun, and one time I swear I played for four hours straight. Play it. Now.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare- We wouldn’t have a great list if we left Call of Duty out. This year’s installment is simply awesome, bringing a great campaign, wonderful multiplayer modes, and enough customization to keep you busy for the next year. If this is the direction that the franchise is headed, we can’t wait to see what the next installment brings.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order- We’re admittedly huge Star Wars nerds, so we were geeked to take on the role of Jedi padawan Cal Kestis in this Sucker Punch game. It lived up to the hype, bringing great action, an enticing story, and action-packed traversal that was a lot like the Uncharted series of games. It ended on a great note and deserves to be on the list of excellent games of the year.
