When The Last Guardian was first revealed it looked as if it was going to be one of those masterpieces that you would buy a console just to play. As you can see from the following trailers it seemed epic, grand, mystifying and above all incredibly intriguing. Before even seeing anything about the game we all expected it to be along the lines of the PS2 masterpieces, Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. Check out the trailers:

Yep, you read it right, it was announced in 2010. Has it been launched yet? Far from it. Just like any of those games that gamers are dying to play, The Last Guardian's launch date kept on postponing till the point that it was believed it had been cancelled altogether.

The rumor about the cancellation of this long awaited PS3 exclusive started about a month ago but I'm glad to say that various Sony officials recently confirmed that the game is still very much in production. Although from what they had to say it seems The Last Guardian is not out of the woods yet.

It seems that the development team actually had to go back and redo parts of the game. That doesn't sound good at all. From the trailer and gameplay teaser it is quite easy to see that the game looks aged. From a graphical standpoint the game isn't on par with the newest Sony exclusives e.g. Beyond: Two Souls, The Last of Us.

The Last Guardian also seems to be a puzzle platformer so maybe it even doesn't compare to these games in terms of gameplay either. Well if that is the case then I'm glad Sony decided to redo the game to their liking. Everyone expects a lot from PS3 exclusives and Sony also has a reputation to uphold.

Also recent info shows that a new team might be behind the development. The info was obtained from Trademarkia shows that Sony has filed a "New Application  trademark for The Last Guardian. This is what it read, "….status on the THE LAST GUARDIAN trademark changed to NEW APPLICATION - RECORD INITIALIZED NOT ASSIGNED TO EXAMINER."

The trademark is also listed as "active" now which clearly contradicts previous rumors of cancellation. Perhaps it was made "in-active" during the trademark change sparked the cancellation rumors to begin with. At any rate I for one am glad to know it is still in development and really hope they will show something during this year's Tokyo Game Show.
