BF3 To Soon Have Three New Themed Expansions

Instead of delivering the usual downloadable content of maps for every FPS game out there, DICE decided to do something completely different when it comes to expanding Battlefield 3. They decided to give Battlefield 3 players a set of three expansion packs, with not only maps but also new game modes, new and innovative gameplay, and unique environments for each release.

Judging by the official descriptions, each of these three expansion packs will be set on a different type of gameplay for BF3. For example, in June, EA and DICE will release Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, which is an expansion pack that will put you in the boots of a foot soldier with new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags. This Fall we will see "Armored Kill" expansion, which will be vehicle-based with new vehicles like maps that are vehicle friendly. Expect some epic viral BF3 videos out of that one. And finally in the winter, we will see "End Game", an expansion that is at this time a bit of a secret. It seems like DICE is keeping their lips sealed on the details of that one.

In a press release on these expansion packs for Battlefield 3, executive producer Patrick Bach stated the following:

"Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we're giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh. Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time."

Some people, like this Kotaku news article about the trio, say that whole thing is a response to Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 content season, which has been rolling out map pack after map pack since it's release.Where as Battlefield 3 decided to up the ante and give us more than just maps.
