Forbes Reports Both EA's and Activision's Latest Titles Will Generate More than $1.4 Billion In 2011's Fourth Quarter

With both EAs Battlefield 3 and Activisions Modern Warfare 3 clashing together to become this year's most wanted FPS game, business analysts predict that these two games alone will generate over $1.4 billion in revenue in the year's fourth quarter. Both Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 will bring in around 15% of this quarter's video game sales, according to Michael Pachter, videogame analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities and host of "Pach-Attack!" on Gamertrailers.com.

Pachter predicts that this year alone, Modern Warfare 3 will more than double Battlefield 3 in sales with around 16 million copies to Battlefields 8 million. Pachter followed up with a 2012 forecast of an additional 8 million more copies of Modern Warfare 3 to sell, along with 2 million more Battlefield 3 titles.

While both companies and their fan bases have each created an atmosphere of "buy this title, don't buy the other one" mentality, Pachter thinks different about that subject. He believes thatmany gamers will end up buying both titles, which is good for both companies. When asked about his belief, Pachter stated the following:

Id guess that around half of the console copies of Battlefield 3 will be bought by people who also buy Modern Warfare 3, so around 2 to 3 million will buy both...I dont see much cannibalization of the titles.

In the past, I have watched and listened to Pachter on his thoughts and opinions of the financial side of the video game industry. While I have been back and forth on agreeing and disagreeing with many of his thoughts and beliefs, I support him in that both games will generate a lot of revenue for both companies and the economy, seeing that both (omit) are to be great successes when they are released to the general public.
