Nintendo Brings SNES Games to Switch

During a Nintendo Direct presentation this week the Japanese gaming giant announced that they were bringing SNES games to Nintendo Switch Online users, with the games launching on September 5th.

The games will be included in the price of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, joining alongside the NES games that were launched earlier. The initial wave of games includes 20 titles, with the following games available now:

+ Demon's Crest
+ Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics
+ Kirby's Dream Land 3
+ Star Fox
+ Super E.D.F. Earth Defense Force
+ Super Mario Kart
+ Yoshi's Island
+ Super Puyo Puyo 2
+ Super Tennis
+ Breath of Fire
+ F-Zero
+ Kirby's Dream Course
+ Pilotwings
+ Stunt Race FX
+ Super Ghouls'n Ghosts
+ Super Mario World
+ Super Metroid
+ Super Soccer
+ The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past

Nintendo did point out that they won’t be updating the roster monthly for the SNES library, noting that new games will be released “irregularly”. There are a bunch of great SNES games that could be added in the future, with titles like Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country, Super Punch-Out!, and more all available to be added in the future.

Without a doubt, the launch of SNES games will see a calling for Nintendo 64 and Gamecube titles from users. While there aren’t as many classics to be found on the 64-bit console, there are a few that we’d like to see. Of course, Gamecube would be more difficult to emulate, but if we got the chance to play Super Mario Sunshine or the original Luigi’s Mansion, we’d be jumping for joy.
