Source indicates that Sony will actually launch its next console before Microsoft

When Sony launched the PS3 a year after Microsoft's Xbox 360, the 360 got more attention and gained the upperhand and until later on, it took some time for the PS3 to gain its ground and be an equal competitor. However the tides could change should Sony release their next generation console earlier. Despite the fact that Sony has said in the past that they will "probably be the last to announce," a source close to Sony has stated to various sources like VG247 and GamesIndustry.Biz that Sony is "confident" it will launch its next console "Playstation Orbis" before Microsoft's next console.

The report notes that both companies are aiming for a Christmas 2013 launch for their consoles but that Sony will get the jump this time.

"Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time...You should be watching the timing of next year's E3 keynotes, and who's going to go first....Top line publishers already know about it...developers working with publishers - like Ubisoft, for example - already know what's going on. They're already working on it."

Though another source stated that more information about Sony's next console is going to be issued to developers under a non-disclosure agreement in May. These rumors are coming out of the woodwork for Sony, especially with the recent news of the PlayStation Orbis' name and its specifications. Then again, these are just rumors, we will have to wait to find out more.
