The PS5 Will Be for Hardcore Gamers

The PS5 is reportedly going to be aimed at hard-core gamers, featuring tech that will rival what is seen from gaming PCs right at launch.

The revelation was made during a fiscal briefing, where company CEO Kenichiro Yoshida made the claim. The Japanese manufacturer will include ray tracing, up to 8K support (likely upscaling), 16 gigs of RAM, and a SSD that effectively will eliminate load times.

The PlayStation brand has become Sony’s biggest product, overtaking camera sensors, TVs, cameras, and the like. The PS4 has been a huge success, and Sony is rumored to be gearing up to release the PS5 in 2020 to compete against the Xbox Scarlett, which is also rumored to be pretty beefy.

With Sony focusing on hardcore gamers, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a crack at a premium controller like what Microsoft has done with the Elite Controller. If certain aspects can be customized, such as stick tension or sensitivity, then we’ll certainly be pumped. Heck, we’d love to have a crack at a PS5 controller just to see what changes we could make to improve upon the original design!

For the next generation, Sony has said that they see Microsoft as their main competitor, largely ignoring Nintendo with their Switch or Google with their upcoming Stadia streaming product. Microsoft is going to be launching their xCloud service later this year, and it’s possible that Sony will target lower-end players with a streaming service of their own.

With the information that Sony’s released, there’s no doubt that the PS5 is going to be a beast, and we can’t wait to see the console when it’s announced.
